Title: Newby Hunting Late Mondern Blacktail
Post by: jhunter on November 13, 2009, 09:13:20 AM
I moved recently to the Puyallup area from Southern OR. I know my old stomping grounds like the back of my hand but don't even know where to start up here. This late hunt is my first chance to hunt since moving here and I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers as far as where to go in the Puyallup/Graham/Orting area. I don't have a lot of time so I won't be venturing too far out this year. I know hunters never share their secret spots and I am not looking for that, just some general idea of where to start.
Thanks

This interactive map should help you out. Also, call the DNR and they should be able to give you some info on public lands. Good luck buddy and welcome to the site!

up behind Wilkinson, hike away from the road and lock your truck up good, with no valuables in it..Public land around your area is riddled with scumbags

Grousetracker,  do you have contact info for ft lewis?  I'd like to get on and hunt there, but don't know where to begin.  I've googled, but haven't found much.

Welcome Jhunter. I too have lived in SW OR. The BT deer here are quite a bit bigger bodied and the best I have found is behind housing areas. Some people feed them or put out salt blocks for them. The deer come into the housing areas to get away from all the cougars. They do go back up into the brush for solitude.

Look for access to get around the housing and expect to see people walking their dogs. They generally don't know the regs so don't spend much time with them when they complain and say there is no hunting in the area. You may have to walk or bike a few miles in to some areas but it is worth it. Homework is the key bro.

Just make sure you don't shoot the wrong size of bang bang. Some areas are rifle restricted.
