My rifle fell over and I had a bushenell scope on it. It bent the scope, so I ended up replacing it with a Leupold. I had another scope that must have been bumped as the cross hairs in the middle broke loose.
I also had a chance to tour the Leupold facility in Beaverton, OR. They have a large board with numerous scopes that have scene tragety. From home fires, to river recoveries.

Been there, Did that!
Simmons scope on rifle leaned against a bicycle while Elk hunting. Bike fell and somehow the crank and rock on the ground decided to ruin that day's hunt by crushing the scope tube. Funny thing was.. I FOUND a Leupold VXII 3-9x40 on that trip later that week on a skidder road. It has been on that rifle ever since.
I crushed a Bushnell once when the land gave way enough for me and the rifle I had in my hands to take a natural mud slide on my ass for about 70 feet down to the boulder wash. I kept the rifle up and out in front of me, but I think a rock flew up and hit it instead of knocking out my front teeth.

That's what I tell my wife about all my hunting equipment :chuckle: :chuckle:

I'm really not kidding! It was half covered by leaves in the road. Not a scratch on it. No ring marks. I don't think it had ever been mounted.

Heck... The wife wouldn't know particulars about much that's in the gun safe anyway. She knows where here personal defense gun is.. That's what matters.

my brother and i went on a dall sheep hunt in the yukon 3 years ago, brother set his rifle on the shale rocks and slid and tumbled about 1500 feet, the gun was destroyed but the 4x16 swarovski was still fine, a few scratches but is still holding zero.

Put a Leupold VariX-II on my 35 Whelen and everything inside let loose, went back to the Weaver and alls well. Leupold fixed it but I keep it on the little guns.

had an older bushnell 4x on my old savage 30.06. shooting one day i watched the bottom crosshair disconnect and fall lower and lower until it fell out of site. the bushnell banner 3-9x40 that replaced it seized up at the power dial.
-
you are right Jack! I have never had any luck with anything that says weatherby. but i made a good trade, mad money!!

maybe not totalled but my 25-06 came unhooked from the sling and landed on the scope, vari-x II 3x9. bent it bad enough that it wouldn't sight in correctly for elevation. centered the dials, turned it 90% in the mounts and used the windage screws on the mount to center it and sighted it in and have used it that way for 15+ years.
have seen many bargain scopes, go south on friends rifles though. had better luck with Simmons than most others.

Fell on the rocks, landed on my rifle and scope. Leupold was broke, bent, etc... went home, took the scope off, drove to Beaverton, walked into Leupold and 20 min. later was leaving with a brand new one.
-
i went over the handle bars on my mountain bike and landed on my my remington 700 300winmag with and older(better) redfield scope strapped to my pack and it still shot right on. i was shure i had busted it.

have a burris scope on my 454 casull and it nocked the inner lense lose, maybe to much power :dunno: :chuckle:
-
454 casule is a soft round. must have been a dud scope :chuckle:
-
I took a hard fall off a log and landed on my rifle, bending to main tube on my Leupold 3x9. I sent a letter with it to Leupold, they replaced it free. I wasnt looking to get it fixed for free thats why I sent the letter saying how it happened. That warranty is a big part of why I'm such a loyal Leupold customer.
-
i totalled a bb gun scope.
-
killed two bushnell 4x scopes on my 10/22, both busted out the center optic.... it just started spinning loose inside??
-
i had my 454 casull total one :chuckle: well not toal the internal lense came loose when i shot. sent it in and they fixed it.

pards lens rattled out of his scope which was leaning against the transfer case lever for 200 miles. needless to say he was beyond pissed. I have scrambled leuys, nikon, swaro and simmons....never broke a tube though
