I don't have the money to get either one this year but i was just wondering which is more popular with bowhunters.

I prefer tree-stands if you have a tree to hang one in.

I prefer tree stands. When you are at ground level it is easier for the critters to pick up your movement and scent, imo. Last year I used both and even though my ground blind was 35 yards off of the trail the bucks were much more wary than when I was 30' up a tree.

Tree stand when possible. Deer seem to be more spooky of that new bush than the clump of crap in a tree.... Plus, you are above their sight plane where they are more vigilant in watching for predators (they can still see you of course), and you can usually see them coming from farther away as well as shoot farther in brushy areas.

I even got an elk out of one here in WA a few years ago.

i have never hunted out of a tree stand but love to hunt out of ground blind for turkeys and such

Carp, turkeys don't seem to be quite as wary of the new bush than deer or elk seem to be, though if you can get it in ahead of time and know where they are likely to come from, then a ground blind would likely work well as well. And they keep you dry in the rain......

I do like tree stands. From this evening and a treestand.

if you have camo and can be still you don't need either one. I do use a tree stand on rare occasions when I want to take a break.

I use both. Been a diehard treestand hunter since '91 but use natural ground blinds constantly too. It all depends on the situation, always. Some areas call for stands and some places call for blinds. It just depends. I like to have as many options as possible. I hunt elk out of stands too, not just deer. A hot wallow in the heat of September is enough keep me up all night in anticipation of packing a stand for miles.
I have two young daughters who are eager to join me these days, so I recently invested in a Double Bull Matrix 360 blind that comes with built-in "Child Fidget Control Technology" :chuckle: I dress them in black so they can move around freely inside the blind.

Check craigslist this is the PERFECT time of year to buy them.. I bought 2 summit viper climbers for $150 each both hardly used and as comfy as my lazy boy!

I can draw you some plans for a wooden portable tree stand about $15, send me a pm if interested. Used to use these a lot back in WI in the day before metal stands.
Special T, used the wife's Mossberg 500 20ga. with sabots. 3 shot in two years, three deer down. Not trying to thread-jack....

vipers are the best climber around and they are super comfortable! You got a great buy.

The only problem I have with my treestand is falling asleep in it. I have an API Grandslam Super Mag and it is so damn comfortable that it is easy to fade to black, especially after a sleepless night or a long day of hard hunting.

I love my new viper cause i won't fall out if i fall asleep! I had a stand(Something rivers) steel fold up climber that i treestand hunted with in Arkansas. Almost fell out of the stand 25ft in the air because i dozed off... Bought a nice harness, not the cheepies that come with the climber... The Vipers are like lazyboys attached to a tree! makes it a pleasure to be in the stand... I bring a book and can stay in for 5 hrs during the early season piece of cake! I still wear my harness even though i don't think it is possible to fall out of this new viper... :twocents:

I have never had any sucess out of a store bought ground blind. I love my tree stands. I got cheap ones and I put them up before the season starts and leave them till the last day. I have never had one stolen but you need climbing spurs to get to them.

I have the same problem, I can get 9 hours sleep that night and still be fighting to stay awake in my stand.

I bought a gorilla self climber at wal mart for 80 bucks 3 years ago and it works great. I shot my deer out of a ground blind that i made out of a fallen tree that cut a few shooting lanes though and added a branch here or there. 12 yard shot never knew i was there. THe blind literally took me 10 minutes to build. I got lucky but i dont think you need to buy a ground blind.

Personally, I hate hunting out of a treestand. That being said, I wouldn't argue that they are probably the best way to harvest big whitetails. They certainly have their place... I just get too damn antsy in em, plus I don't like heights. :'(

i bought a ground blind this year. it was fun and I will definitely use it again on some, but definitely not all, hunts in the future.
I'm not too crazy about stands for a conglomeration of small reasons. Tree stands are the #1 source of serious hunting accidents. I'm not comfortable in heights. it just feels unnatural to me.
