Ever get too close to a trophy deer. This picture was full frame. Wish I could say it was a big stalk, but was drving and I spotted him and he looked like another deer I like. I about crapped. I pulled up with the camera and had the 1.4 on. I ripped it off and got out of the truck. I was too close it wouldn't focus. He kept bleating at me. I ran backwards to get some distance between us, WELL....that hit his natural instinct to pursue. He started coming at me with his rut gate. GLARING and BLEATING. I'm like crap. I was trying to get back without getting skewered. I stood my ground with the big white lens and I guess that was enough. He turned away. FINALLY in range, but from behind. DAMN IT. I started following him. He checked a doe then moved on. I saw that I only had about 10 pics left on the card. I yelled at booner to dig out a new card and I was selective. I changed cards and he spotted two does on the hill. OFF he went. I am hoping I got a couple full frame shots of him instead of half a deer. That was so frickin cool I have a hard time evaluating the deer. I think he was about 3.5-4.5 years old. He is a carbon copy right down to a weak fork of his Daddy or brother. He lacks mass and some width of him. but HOLY MOLY. If he survives another year, I know where I will be hunting.(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv47%2Fboneaddict%2FAntler%2520Images%2F09boneclose.jpg&hash=16ceb489f116154687525a135624b3abfb8b7949)

-
"How was your lamb?" Skewered. I love that word!!
I can't get a buck.....you have to beat them off with a stick.
sigh.
-
This is what it looks like just prior to the Skewer.....this is not a cropped image.

Great pics doug, and honestly I'd put that buck at 3.5 yrs... what a stud he's gonna be!

Bone -
You never seem to amaze us with your photos. Thanks for positing them, and keep it up.
-
Thanks!
I agree Michael, thats exactly what I thought. I figured 3.5 by the rest of him. I can't believe his antler growth though. What genetics. His dad or older brother who is carbon copy, I MEAN CARBON is an incredible deer.
Finally a full frame of him for you....

Very Nice Bone.
Just look at that neck in post #12. Amazing.
Wish I could get out there. :bash:
But I have to shoot a different kind of "Rack's" this weekend. ;)
-
DAWG.....
I think I'll be shooting 3rd graders playing basketball. LOL
Thanks by the way.
-
Believe me, I rather be heading up with my buddies setting up Late camp, but in this economy, I have to take every gig offered. But this one is going to be extra sweet.
Plus I get back Monday so I will still have time to make the opener.
-
Wow, he is somthing else... Here's a little prayer that he makes it past the wolves this winter...

So true for most of us :bash:. I am with you JackOfAllTrades. Just think how crowded the other side of our state would be if we could all make a living over there though.
-
Just look at that neck in post #12. Amazing.
What neck? His head is attached to his front shoulders!!!
Awsome deer!!! and amazing photos. I love the detail in the close shots.
Kris
-
Great photo's!
But one question, what were you trying to do to his doe's that had him so pissed at you? :yike:
Shootmoore
-
I all I know is when I pulled out the big white thing, he got real pissy.
-
those front forks! WHOOOOEEEE
-
He's back. That means he passed on A LOT of BIG genes.
-
I'm still trying to figure out if there was Dad and son, or they were the same deer. The dude on the hill looked much than this guy, but the antler configuration was the same. Idabooner and I were still discussing it today. The buck today was EXACTLY where he was last year. Whether its the son or Dad, I'm just glad one of them spread their genes, and survived. Can you imagine surviving the wolves, cougars, cars and every guy in a camo shirt or orange vest. WOW

-
Man what a sweet buck. How did you get interested in taking pics of huge bucks bone? Was it a hobby passed done by your dad?
-
bone you in the methow or general area
-
I'm all over Teanaway, but yes these are from the Methow.
UBA. I have been absolutely addicted to bone my whole life. Any set of antlers I could touch and measure I would. I collected books and magazines and would spend hours out there from bicycle days (before driver license) to now. Hornseeker and I would hit shows, shed antler hunt, you name it. It kinda got to a point where I think people didn't believe all the deer I was seeing, so I started to want to document them. It merged into what it is today. Its at a point where I think its harder to get a photo of a big buck than it is to kill it. I enjoy the challenge. Its just like hunting. I've always enjoyed photogrpahy even from an early age. I guess I got that from my mother. It was her cmaera I "borrowed" to capture my first buck image.
-
I cant believe the tag holders arent on him...
-
Wow, great buck and great pics Bone, thanks as always for sharing.
-
I feel the same way bone. Just like I would rather have somone else I take hunting shoot a nice buck. I spend a lot of time in the woods. My buddies just come over when it is time to kill. To me there isn't much reward in that.
