I was wondering if anyone has been hunting out here at all or if anyone knew how the hunting has been? How are the numbers of birds in the area and what species? How are the goose hunts going? Anyone doing any good set up on water not just the fields?

i just got back from the potholes and it was slow. we did manage a few birds though.
-
dang... my dad and I are wanting to head out there for the weekend... but we dont know how it is...
-
with the weather we had move through it pushed alot of birds out and the birds we have around still have been around for awhile and have seen alot of decoys and heard alot of calling. but if we get some cold weather up north to move new birds down it should pick up.
-
The basin is holding good counts for geese, but they have been harassed a lot as usual. As for ducks, the northerns haven't made it down here yet so its pretty slow. Should be picking up here real soon though with the weather they got up north.

ok that sounds good! do you think it will improve for thanksgiving weekend?
-
depending on what the weather dose up north hopefully it will. but as all thanksgiving weekend hunts go, if you are hunting public ground its going to be a zoo. hopefully the privat ground im hunting will work out.
-
planning on being on potholes.. so hopefully it wont be too bad.....
-
Geese are think but ducks are very very slim. I think you can shot some ducks but it will not be a barn burner by any means. Good luck.

if you wait until july.... around the fourth there are alot of those big breasted bed thrashers around moses lake :chuckle: i was around that area a few weeks ago and didn't see much at potholes
-
dang that sure isn't too encouraging.... will see how friday is... maybe just hunt friday and saturday and go on a day trip on the river sunday......
-
I have been there the past two weekends and limited out. Last saturday was tough do to the high winds. Then sunday had some snow no wind and it was on. Done by nine with three guys. And at one point over the refuge looked like a million birds comming and going!

A spot we have off of dodson road.
-
that explains it. i was wonderng, ive done good out that way but in the potholes.

Anybody here in on the lease on the West side of Dodson Rd? I'd like to get in there for Coyotes. (Nothin but good for your nesting birds, taking out some of those dogs!!!)
-
o good info. I thought that area across from the boat launch on winchester wasteway on dodson was public land..... if you are talking about the area up north a ways i think that is private.....
-
I thought the entire West side of Dodson at the wasteways was Lease?
Anybody know the specifics? I think some Coyotes need to die!

Its leased private. It's all fenced off. Most of the land west of Dodson is private/leased mix land.

interesting because there is a green cattle gate across form the boat launch that has a wdfw public hunting sign on it and its wierd... you just have to close the gate behind you..... the stuff up north of there further is leased....

Now that you brought it up I checked into it. Looks like it DNR land. The DNR might have their land leased out in certain spots.
