Just wondering if anybody shot any decent bucks in hancock this year.
-
Shot a 5x5 w/ eye guards in walk in area. I have shot 14 bucks in 15 years hunting there. The one year I missed out I was in IRAQ.
Most have been 3 points and one weighted 225lbs field dressed.
-
Hendog I would love to see some pictures of your bucks. Especially the 5x5 with eye guards.
-
Hendog, love to see the pics also, You sound like the man of the timber fo sure! Great Job.....
-
sat with clyde and he showed me a big stack of report cards, lotta bucks taken already...
-
did he get his buck? he told me he was hunting late season
-
no he said he saw a 4x4 in the road, it turned its head and also had some stickers..didnt shoot cause it was on the road..we were looking at an elk that was reported dead..someone dropped off left overs from a hunt..I spent the day up with my son,saw two he couldnt get on them....Had a redtail hawk try to steal my mojo critter..
-
I have hunted the hancock for 4 years now. Spend a lot of time there. In the 4 years we have done ok. My son shot this 3x4 this year that will put him in the washington big game book at 18th or 19th in the state for biggrst BT.Scored 123 6/8 green with a 22inch plus spead. Late hunt did'nt see much. I was disapointed in the amout of animals we saw this year. A alot of people I talked to said they tto did'nt see much. Not like years in the past..
-
how do you enter in the washington big game book? id like to get my buck in there
-
Send Bow4elk a PM. He is a official scorer.
-
I ended up with a 3x4 this year. Last year was my first year hunting up there and got a 3x3.
-

This years Buck pic posted on other thread. I thought it was a 5x4, but Taxidermist said the 1" kicker on rt side counts?
Not the widest or heaviest I gotten there, but has the most points.
-
Did you hear they are going to raise the price too 350 next year and if they are what do you think about that..

i think thats just fine. worth it to me, im up there all the time. and may weed out some of the bad apples if it gets to spendy. i would be willing to pay more even
-
littlebuf, you can take it to the sportsman show and they score them there and give you an official score sheet and they'll put it in the washington big game record book, have you scored it yourself yet, are you having it mounted?
-
bucklucky's mounting it up for me and i cant wait. he did a quick score on it when i brought it down there but couldn't get some of the measurements since i had the cape rolled up and frozen up against the antlers. he got a gross of 130 7/8. he will have some deductions for a net score but i don't care, he's a hog
-
bucklucky's mounting it up for me
Good choice!!
I'll have to swing up to his place and check it out. I think I might pick up family pass next year and hunt that unit for a change. I also need some firewood so the hunting will be a bonus.

I spent all summer scouting and as much time during the season as I could. I ended up with a nice tender 2pt. on the 30th of Oct. That was the only legal deer I saw during season. This was my first year with a pass and I will be getting one for next year. I just have not tracked down where these larger deer are. But I did learn alot this year from the rubs that I saw. I will keep at this winter to learn as much as I can about the area. I wish I drew the elk tag! I had not troubles finding large bulls all season long. Had a 6x catch me off guard at about 30yrds behind some reprod as I was walking the edge of a clearcut. He didn't stick around for a pic either.

What cost $350???

What cost $350???
A Hancock pass/key
-
just got done reading a article in washington/Oregon game and fish about the tree farms. they say that the kapowsin tree farm has hit hard times with deer and is not producing bucks. so don't buy a pass its not worth it. go hunt Vail, leave kapowsin alone theres no deer in there
-
It's turned into a pay Vail :'(
-
Hell of a lot more deer in Vail, and it's free. :)
You just don't get to look at bruiser bulls, get chances at bears with regularity, get firewood, and you have to walk in during the week to see the deer.
-
yup vails way better, dont buy a kapowsin key
-
Theres deer running all over the place in Vail and Hancock, everybody should hunt up that way.

no there all down in the winston, go hunt down there. a buck behund every tree
-
Vail is free if you want to hunt with 10,000 other people. I don't so I will pay the cost. In the 4 years I have hunted hancock only one time have I run into another hunter more then 100 yards off the road. Excption the walk in areas. Its open and lots of room to hunt with out being disturbed..
-
pay no attention to jamng's post kapowsin sucks and nobody should buy a pass, i repeat it is not worth the money dont buy a pass.
-
passes just went up to 550,thats to much for a place thats hunted out.
-
They should raise it to a 1000.00!!!!
But I guess I am going to be getting a pass this year coming up, with me being a solo parent for teh year there will be a lot of riding in the truck with baby girl, the less people the better.
-
Kapowison is all hunted out. This was my last year in there. Don't waste your money.
-
i know this is a stupid question and i will probably get a lot of s**t for it but i dont care im gonna ask anyways. wheres hancock and how do i get a pass for it.
-
i guess you havent been reading the post's, you dont want a pass for it. trust me
-
from what i read everyone says get a pass and dontget a pass to kapowsin
-

Hancock is by Kapowsin on the back side of Graham, you can get a pass if you drive over there or contact them thru the phone, it is a good place to hunt, you just have to spend time in there. THey only give out a limited number of passes so first come first serve
-

They say do not get a pass, because they want less hunters in there, get one and hunt it. If you like it then continue to get them if not then dont get one again
-
ok thanks. but where exactly is hancock i wanna check it out on google earth. and how much are the passes goin for
-
Hancock is a lot more than just Kapowsin, LOts of Hancock land to hunt that doesnt require anything but feet to walk with. And some of it is the best Elk and bear hunting in the state. IMO anyway.
-

Google Lake Kapowsin, that will get you in the area, then you can go from there, yes it is a lot more land than Kapowsin, you can hit it up around buckley also

I've Never hunted Hancock or any other place that I had to pay for access. While I can understand why folks like hunting places like Hancock, Less other hunters being a big one, I just cant get behind the idea of having to pay to hunt. I'm sure that one of these days All the timber land around here will be pay access like the private land in other states. I'll either be stuck with a million other guys on NFS land or I'll stop hunting all together but I wont pay a trespass fee. As a kid growing up in Aberdeen I could hunt after school just a few min's out of town on Rainier property, if there was a trespass fee back then I doubt that I would have had a opportunity to even start hunting.

Those days are long gone. I pay to hunt Hancock because I live 10 minutes from the gate and I can get away from road hunters in the walk in areas.
-
Used to be alot of deer in there. Still a bunch but not what it used to be. Waaay to many jokers/ road hunters and if you think you can go into a walk in area to get away think again. That too is over with the a** load of passes they are selling these day. :twocents: This last year is my last too.
Also Hancock is not just Kapowsin and/or Buckley they also manage Snoqualmie and White river areas that are huge. Just another "group" that is quote, unquote managing ;) for everything but sustainable yield (trees that is). >:( AKA Rape and pillage :bdid:

The population has suffered over the past few years. I have hunted my whole life in there and will continue to get a pass but overall the success rates in there are probably around 10 to 15 percent. The guys that have hunted for years in there and spend a lot of time in there can always get a buck but true trophies are hard to come by. If you have never hunted it expect to have a tough time finding deer during the regular season unless you have stormy weather. Sunny days you will be lucky to even see a doe unless you have done prescouting and even then sometimes you will get blanked. There is better hunting elsewhere but I live close and tradition means a lot to me. The elk hunting is fantanstic but you will never get a tag and the guys who draw the tags never seem to be the hardcore hunters who would have a chance at the big bulls. You would have to dig them out of the timber and the guys drawn always want to road hunt and seldom kill anything decent.
-
I herd there going to let more guys in there, and raise the fee.
-

Thats ok, theres a ton of deer there.

same amount of people,more money

I hunt Hancock land and dont pay to do it. Hancock has land all over the country.
-
I hunted fee access Hancock land for the first time this year since I hunted the same area about 10-12 years ago when it was owned by Champion, I was successful in finding game, but I was also successful in finding some of the drunkest A$$-oles I've ever encountered in my life and had to file a Sheriff's report, completely ruined my hunt this year. It seems some who buy the permit feel it gives them license to treat the property as their own and that no one else has privilege to hunt there, I am really debating buying a pass again. I guess I'm biased as I was drawn for the special permit hunt Champion used to have and it was the best blacktail hunt I ever had, I was sorry to see them cancel that hunt and go to the State's season's for late buck. They assumed the fee would eliminate riff-raff but it clearly hasn't. Fee's continue to go up and the roads are not really maintained all that well, there are many spurs with no turn outs, badly pitted, etc, honestly I think the roads in Vail are in better shape.
-
is the permit per vehicle, or per person? meaning, if I get the permit, can I take people in with me if they are in my jeep/truck?
-
per person, they have to have there own permit .
-
wow that is painful. so for those people in this thread who take their Son's and daughters and say they'd pay $500 or $1,000 for a permit... they are actually paying $1,000 to $2,000 to take their kid in to hancock.?
part of me still wants it, but it ain't getting any cheaper. i'll have to get some firewood to make it worthwhile.

the permit is for you your wife and kids under 18. $350.00 for the family, plus firewood..Many people buy the permit for firewood only...
