Title: T/C Encore legal for Muzzy season?
Post by: fishm@n on November 26, 2009, 11:17:44 AM
I've seen posts from previous years with not definitive answer to this question. Does anyone know for sure if this gun is illegal for muzzy season in WA?

Thanks

Fishman

Not even close to being legal. It uses 209 primers and they aren't legal here. Not only that but the cap must be "exposed to the weather" and in the Encore, it is not. Look at page 62 in the Big Game Hunting Regulations.

Thanks for the definitive answer! Sure would like to have one of those guns but I'll have to come up with another reason and get a regular ML. Happy Turkey Day!

might not be legal during muzzy season but if you like it I believe you can use it during modern firearm seasons in the firearm restricted units and even put a scope on it if you would like

I had heard rumor that TC was going to be making a Muzzy barrel with a little slot at the breech that would be considered their "Western" version for those states that require the cap be exposed to the elemants.  Anyone else ever hear something like that?

I know that some will drill a small hole to expose the primer to make it legal.

At what point is it considered "exposed". I tiny pinhole, say .010", would essentially be "exposed" would it not?

I always wondered about drilling the hole in an Encore. I figured that if you got stopped the warden would give you a hard time for violating the "spirit" of the law. But it would technically be exposed to the elements.

This reminds me of the time I called WDFW to ask about what a "revolver type handgun" is. I asked if a Contender shooting a "revolver" round like a 44 mag was legal. I was told that it is not acceptable. So I told them that I'd just use a revolver chambered for a rifle round (45-70 BFR). :chuckle:

who know about the pin hole being legal for one i would not want to loose on that side of that deal and get a poaching violation for that, i will stick to no modified "by me" guns that they can't anything about. i don't know if the encore can even take a 11# or musket nipple for it by the way people are talking thye must make one :dunno:
