I was wondering if the blacktail are still rutting?
-
Wondering the same thing myself. Still have my muzzy deer tag.
-
Was out last night with late season Archery, seen 4 different does, and not a buck in sight.
So can't answer your question just saying what I observed.

-It seemed to be full swing around nov5-14, then the big guys started to hide out again. Just as normal right in the middle of Elk season. :bash:
-
They are hiding around here big time.
-
I haven't seen any but, the one..that I think got pushed out of his spot and caught by accident. We were on the island and didn't see any that we could shoot..private property. They weren't in rut at all!!
I hope that my boy at least gets something..and the hubby too:)

i was dissappointed with the rut during the late rifle season, the bucks were not with the does in the area i was in and very lil sign of any rutting. my guess is that it is kicking in later than usual, or maybe it hit harder earlyier. who knows

Same here in Kitsap.... :dunno:

We're going to head out his evening. Maybe, we'll see something.

All of my pet bucks (even the yearlings) have disappeared a couple of weeks ago and are not coming around even at night. The does are still coming around for acorns and clover but I haven't captured a pic on my back fence line cam of a buck in a while. I saw some fresh tracks in the timber yesterday that went from a nasty thicket to big timber and back to the thicket. I think they are resting from the rut and are holed up.
-
Was out yesterday only saw a dow driving in at 5:15 and driving out at 5:30.
-
We seen a buck yesteday looking for a doe. Also found his tracks and could tell he was pushing the doe around.
As a general rule I think they are done. Some little pockets will rut sooner and other will rut later.
Tell the guys good luck!

The rut is done, turn out the lights the party is over. :chuckle:

;)Kris ;)
We are cranking up the lights..maybe we will catch one that way..lol Just kidding!

where i hunt they rutted right at the end of Oct and the buck i shot first day of late season appeared to already have rutted. I'm glad to i hope he bred
-
:yeah:
I concur. On Halloween weekend, last of regular Wetside season, 2 friends each took big blacktails in unit 667. Both bucks were tailing does. Me? I was elk hunting eastern WA that weekend and following weekdays.
late rifle season, I saw 11 single does, hunting 3 different areas in Vail. Did not see a single big buck trailing any of those does.
Archery late, so far: 3 single does in 3 trips, no bucks with them.
yeah, rut is over for the wetside. Bucks have probably gone back to their old habits & going nocturnal.
I'm giving it one more weekend and calling it a season.

we have benchlegs were i hunt and they are done not any rutting going on at all a lot of bucks by them selves or just chowin down not even looking at the does i hunted the 20-26 then the 28th the first part they were chasin and breeding but since about the 25th i have not seen anything that said they were still rutting and i could not find any toads lots of nice deer but i think the toads were done here by the 20th and in some $hit hole somewhere camped out putting the pounds on to stay alive threw winter :twocents:
-
They guys have until Dec. 15th...He better get out and at least work really hard! I did..we hiked A LOT. In the late rifle I probably put on 20-30miles...not that I couldn't use it..lol.
I just heard someone got a Dandy 5x4 and saw an amzing 6x6.
UGH.I hope there is still some left in sight.

. I had an oportunity at a 3 point on a doe this week . Pulled the trigger but the muzzleloader didnt go off :bash:
-
the deer seem to be holed up tighter than a tick in a sheep dog

Oh No Charlie that sucks!!! That would be frustrating. The only time that has ever happened to us was when Eric got his nice buck and there were the other 2 with it. My older boy's gun didn't go off, well he lied about a grade he had and when we got home, we realized why his gun didn't go off. Hopefully, you've been a good boy..lol Just Kidding ;)
-
I ran into a guy yesterday that said he saw a buck with his nose up a doe's backside chasing her for 10 minutes Saturday. I saw the Same buck Sunday. No doe with him but he was as stupid as they come.
-
Well, a doe that wasn't bred the first time comes into heat a month later. So it would make sense that some does would be coming into heat right about now, and any buck nearby would be very interested in chasing her. :)
But yeah the main rut when most of the does were bred was over in mid-November.

Oh No Charlie your gun didn't go off.
He has that problem sometimes.
:chuckle:

I read that the does will keep having estrus cycles until they get bred. This could explain why some bucks rut late.

Yes, it does explain it. It's the does that decide when they are going to get bred, not the bucks.
Kinda the same as it is with us humans. :)

Amen to that..

Take it or leave it but I'd be rattling and calling right now through the end of late archery. Last year I killed my buck on 12/3 and had two mature bucks fighting hard over a doe not 100 yards from where I was taking photos. I walked over and lit them up with my light, which broke up the ruckus. I've had lots of rutting action in December. The lull after the primary rut is always dead, but it does pick up again if you play the biology card. Scent drags in and around high quality preferred food sources (discover by observation) in your area can pull in a buck, as can rattling and bleat calling.
