So my wife has been reading Sandy's post online with me and I have to give it to Sandy it really got my wife excited to read her updates. Thanks Sandy!!
Day one scouting day: We arrived in Entiat around 2 p.m. on Monday and with some direction from friends we had a good starting point to look. We drove up into the hills and started looking around and were a little discouraged with the lack of snow. Everything I heard about this hunt was dependant on snow but the snow fairies were no where around. We got off the main road a little ways and we spotted our first deer, not a big buck but it was a buck none the less. We watched him for a few minutes nosing a doe and we noticed another buck. This one was a little bigger but probably still not what were looking for. We were a little more excited that we were seeing bucks so we kept going. Not much further down the road we round the bend and see a nice 4x4 with a couple does and the wife says that'll work! By then it was starting to get dark so we turned around and headed down the mountain. We were seeing deer all the way out so the wife was getting excited for her hunt the next morning. On the way out we were treated with a flock of turkeys which we both thought was pretty cool.

Day two opening morning: Mrs. JBar is up at 4 a.m. why I don't know! Any way our friends came in the night before so we all pile in the one truck and this is where the adventure began. This was not really planned as a hunting day but more of a day to be shown the area more in depth. I did not have a camera this day sorry I forgot it but I would not have had time to take pictures anyway. We pull up to the area Joe wants to show us at dark and we patiently wait for light. At first light we start driving into the area and almost immediately we were into deer. We drive past a small 3x4 standing next the road I think Mrs. JBar was going to have a heart attack. All Joe said is "too small" and kept driving. About ten minutes later we come across the 4x4 we had seen the day before. He crossed the road in front of us with a few does and headed down the hill. Joe knowing the area drove down and around where they were headed and this is where the wife started to hyperventilate as Joe was driving around fallen trees in the road pushing his truck to the verge of rolling as he went around them. The wife was freaking out at this point and was ready to get the hell out. Her and our other friend Glen who also had the tag jumped out of the truck to chase the big buck down while Joe and I got the truck turned around. They tried to get to him but got busted just out of range.
Mrs. JBar and Glen did a couple other unsuccessful stalks on some smaller bucks throughout the day but with the icy roads and large cliffs by the end of the day the wife was DONE!!! That night on the way down the hill Joe and Glen were going to look at another are and the wife and I would hunt what Joe had shown us today. We got back to the hotel and Mrs. JBar downed a Coors light in about 30 seconds to calm her nerves from the hairy day on the hill and after dinner it was right to bed..

Soundin pretty good.............keep it coming!
-
Day three: The wife woke me from a dead sleep at 5 a.m. again she was up at 4 and again I don't know why! :bash: After she finally got me to get up and start moving she told me we were not hunting any of the higher really icy roads because she could not take another day of icy roads and large cliffs! I was good with that unless we didn't see any deer on the lower roads. It was a balmy 19 degrees when we left the hotel room and when we hit the top of the hill it warmed up to 21 "WOW" break out the Bermuda's and sunscreen! Was not very optimistic as the weather was cold, clear and we had a full moon that night. We headed into the area and it wasn't until 30 minutes after light before we had seen our first deer. This was actually okay since we were just getting to the area were going to hunt. After that it was like someone opened the faucet, were seeing deer around every corner. We had seen several smaller bucks but nothing worth going after though the wife was getting an itchy trigger finger and was ready to shoot a small forkie we kept seeing the last couple days. I held her back and it paid off as we spotted a really nice heavy buck with a couple of does. She did a stalk on him but was about 10 yards outside her comfort level and couldn't get any closer and was busted moments later. Discouraged again she picked herself up and went on the stalk two more bucks both smaller 3x4's. She was able to take her first shot of the hunt on on the first one after he mounted a doe. Misjudging the yardage she shot over him. By this time she was down on herself and we talked a bit throughout the next couple hours. Talked about Sandy's hunt and hoped she had gotten one as we had been out of internet service. This seem to pick her up again so we drove around and glassed some really big bucks that were just un approachable.
We tried one more stalk on a dandy buck but stalking uphill on noisy ground just does not get you close enough in this country. This was really starting to get to her so I told her to hang in there that it will happen if you're just patient. It wasn't 2 minutes later I spotted a good buck bedded downhill on a sunny hillside which meant defrosted ground! Perfect! After I pointed the buck out to her it was game on. We put a short stalk on him and got within her comfort range and I hit him with the rangefinder as she drew her bow back, I told her the range and I whistled to get the buck to stand up but he was having nothing of it. He just laid there a bit tired from the rut I'm guessing. Mrs. JBar then said I need to do something so I told her where to hold on a bedded deer and she let it fly!
-
AND THEN......
-
thwack...deer down?
-
So months and months of practice came down to this one little moment! I was always the mean man who makes her go out in the august heat to shoot my bow when my season is 4 months away! Well the past month I didn't have to ask her one time, she went to the range by herself and shot in the back yard almost daily to make this one moment all worth it she took her time anchored, picked a spot and released flawlessly. The arrow hit it's mark and the only thing keeping it from a passthrough was the ground on the other side. At the impact of the arrow this rut tired buck exploded from his bed with a beautiful bright fletch sticking out, he did a thirty yard semi circle and died mid stride. Mrs JBar being on the vertically challenged side had lost sight of him as he circled and didn't see him go down. I gave her a big hug and said your first archery buck is down. She started crying and asking if I was sure, I reassured her the buck was down and told her "there is no crying in bowhunting"! We left him for a few minutes to be sure as I went to get my pack and camera I was able to see him laying there with all four legs up. Yup he's down I thought to myself! I got back to her and I walked her down to her buck. He was bigger than I had originally thought, he had good mass and width. Though like most people say he's not the biggest buck on the hill but I could not be any more proud of my wife and hunting partner! We had to hurry as we did not want to be dragging him out in the dark so I am sorry if some of the pics are a little blurry. I also added the sunrise of that morning I just wish I would have taken one of the moon rising as it was also spectacular! The drive off the hill was slow but gave us time to relive the moment, we stopped at Coopers and got her picture taken. I think she drug everyone out of the store and even a guy that was pumping gas to look at her buck. It was good to see her so excited!

Thanks Everyone! This is Mrs. JBar...
I want to say a HUGE thank you to Rainier Archery...without all the guys there I wouldn't have been able to do this. My Mathews DXT did the trick!
Joe, your driving skills are great, scary but great. Thanks for taking the time to show us around the area.
John for calming me down when I would over think shooting...Glen for telling me to practice evertime I saw him, and Lee for talking baseball with me.
I want to especially thank my husband...he stuck by me throughout all of this, couldn't have done it without you, literally. (There was no way in hell I could have drug that deer the 90 yds. up hill by myself!)
-

One of the best posts I have seen on the site, I'm proud of her and don't even know her. The only time my wife picks up a bow is when I leave it on the counter and she is trying to make dinner.

What a monster Congratulations
