Hey Guys, ok so I want to take out a kid and his dad this year on a duck hunt! Im going to put everyones name in a hat and pick one and take them out!! let me know if you want in!!!...this is Free all I ask is for someone that is safe and really likes to duck hunt!!!
-
If you happen to have a left handed youth gun then I would go. My daughter clearly hasn't shot much but she would sure love it. I just don't have a shotgun for her. :bash:
-
Really cool of you Riley!
Put me and my boy in for a shot at it. Be nice to get him out over Christmas break.
-
Darn, I have two kids who only have one duck each under their belt....
-
that is a really awesome thing of you to do! does it have to be a younger kid? cause I know my dad and I would love to go with you guys with the success y'all have down there!
-
I'm a kid at heart....
Wish my boy was a few years older. He is 6 and joined me on a goose hunt a couple of weekends ago.
Awesome of you to offer that, having seen your success photos, too bad we don't qualify.
Good Luck.
-
No kids here.
But just wanted to say good on you for setting this up. Kids hunting truly is our only chance for hunting in the future.

I've taken a few guys out with kids. Don't forget the ear plugs. Those youth 20 gauges with short barrels sure can make your ears ring. It's fun watching the little ones get a few birds.
-
I know my boy would enjoy it! Throw us in. An a very nice gester RileyTDF!! :)

Great idea man. I have taken many kids plus my own out and it's real rewarding. Nice to see that many on here realize that our kids are the future of the sport. The ODC is airing more and more shows about kids hunting too.

I love this kinda stuff.I wish I had a digital camera with my kids growing...
-
well ill give it another week and then put everyone in a hat! Im trying to get on a piece that has about 500 mallards and 150 honkers all in a 80 curve on a little river...should be amazing!!! never been hunted either!! ill let you know if i get it!!
-
great idea Riley!
-
So i only see a few people. Whats the deal? C'mon guys TDF will make it a hunt to remember.
Riley you need a draw date!
-
My 10 year old would love this. We do not have a shotgun but would love to go.
Please put our name in!! Gary and Garrett
-
This is exactly the kind of thing we as hunters need to do more of. This is a great offer. If it comes around next year my boy and I will be in. He has passed his hunters education but after shooting the 20 he said he would like to grow another year before getting his license. So with any luck we will be killing turkeys this spring , days after his eighth birthday :IBCOOL:. He has a waiting list started for his little buddies to come along ;). Great offer Riley, thanks.

Is this hunt in the Walla Walla area??
-
I'm in i'm 13 and my dad and I love duck hunting!!

Is this hunt in the Walla Walla area??
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's going to be around here. Riley can confirm that as i will most likely be working the day of the hunt.
-
Hell with some of those TDF hunting photo's I might see if I can't find a rent-a-kid center around. ;)
-
Wanna rent these two hooligans? :chuckle:
-
Ya the hunt should be around Walla Walla or local area. for those people sending my PMs about not taking these kids to public stops because they will hunt them and start going..shame on you :bash:. They are the future of the sport and if I can take them to a place they enjoy and can hunt without me I will.. Anyways I will end the Drawing next Friday...the winners and me will figure out a date and go smash some birds!! It should be a blast! :)

Seriously? Someone sent you a PM that said don't take the kid and Dad to a public spot because they may go hunt it in the future? You are exactly right, shame on that person for not recognizing that without the kids coming into the sport, we will be a very small group trying to keep our hunting rights as we get older. Riley, good on ya for making the offer to do this, you got your heart in the right spot when it comes to hunting. And to whoever sent him the PM as stated above, you should be ashamed of yourself.
-
Is there an age limit? My dad's 67 and I'm 37. :yike: :chuckle: Seriously though I have a 16 year old nephew that I would like to get on some birds. If that's not to old. I think this is an awesome idea, thanks for taking the time. ;)
-
great idea man. i have some private land thats always got honkers and mallards on it. up here in mount vernon. there is 50 acres. i dont bird hunt but would be willing to help you out by letting u use the land :dunno:

Wow, sometimes I really can't understand people. PUBLIC LAND is just that "Public". It is unbelievable how some people act like they own the world. Kids hunting is one of the most important things we as hunters should be concerned with. I know that if my father would not have instilled the love for hunting into me things in my life would be much different. So some kids hunt "your" PUBLIC spot. Big deal. Don't be a dick about it. If anything we should be helping every kid we come across.
Preach on little bro. TDF will never be to stuck up to take a kid out into the field.

-Thats awesome of you to offer this hunt! When my little girl is a few years older are names will be in the hat ;) Some real cool dudes on this site!
-
Ice, you kill me sometimes. That post of yours made my belly hurt from laughing. Those poor kids. :chuckle: :chuckle: John
-
John, I said "come on....give me a mean snarl for the photo..." :chuckle:
-
Riley drew the name last night not sure who won yet but I'll have him post it today. Times are a little rough in his world right now, but I'll have him log on and give the name.
-
awesome idea, hope to see some good photos, good luck... :)

This is my first day on this forum and i find this. I would appreciate it if you would put my kid and I in the hat. I have guided kids on some upland hunts, it is a lot of fun. My boy is 10 and has shot some pheasent. He wants to start duck hunting, Santa is bringing him a duck call. Anyways, thanks for doing this.
-
This hunt would go great with the lil' guys new shotgun that Santa's bringing. Please sign us up.

Guys, welcome to the site. Unfortunatly Riley has already drawn the winner for this. He announced yesterday that Snowman's kid was the winner.

Plus Aaron got to shoot most all of them :IBCOOL: it was fun..ill get some pictures posted soon!
-
Well, they just got done with the second hunt. Looks like Snowman Jr. is going to have a bird to get stuffed. The hunting has been rough to say the least. I'll let snowman get into the details. It's been a great few days Snowman and his son are great people and an asset to the hunting community. TDF will welcome them back anytime. Thanks to all who watched this thread and kept up with the support. It means a lot to us to know others feel the same as we do in regards to children hunting. We are looking forward to doing another "Kid Hunt" next year.
-
You guys are awesome!
-
Well we made it home safe from our friends at TDF. Before we get to the story, I want to Thank You Riley, Corey and his wife Heather, Jeremy and Trevor for having us down and being Gracious Host's. You guys are a Great Asset to our Hunting Heritage an making it possible for youths to know that in your duck blinds that they are first an for most, making them comfortable an feeling that they count to in our Great Heritage of Water Fowler's. Riley listening to you call, well let's just say lucky your not a duck!! :chuckle: Along with Jeremy and Trevor. You guys taught me a lot about calling just listening to you. Aaron had a Great time and can't wait to hunt with you guys again. He didn't even sleep on the way home, he was still to excited about the adventure. 6 hours of driving an he couldn't keep quite and now won't stop practicing calling. :chuckle: So again Thank You, I too had a Great time.
Okay here is the story of our first hour at Riley's house. Upon unloading the car an getting settled in, on a trip into the house I see a chicken walking around in the neighbors yard. So get in the house an asked Riley about the chicken, we heard it making all sorts of noise. Run outside to see my lab chasing down the chicken.... Well she caught it an ran pass Aaron and Riley straight to my hand delivers this chicken. Other than feathers being ruffed the chicken was unharmed. My lab did get punished, but it was rather kinda of funny watching it unfold so quick that you couldn't do anything about it.
Want to Thank You Corey for taking me out to try my hand at getting some yotes. We seen 2 with no good shots and heard a ton, but just didn't want to come to close. We hunted for them Thursday eve and did 2 set ups.
First mornings hunt started out by Riley and Trevor getting out to the blind about 2 am or so. We got there just before light an hopped into the boat for the ride out to where we would be hunting that morning. We get out to the blind and all the decoys are out an ready to go. Quiet a bit flying, but not a lot wanting to work into the decs. It also didn't help that some older gents set up too close an were shooting birds that were working our set. But we did manage to get 2 greenheads an 2 hens.
This morning hunt start with rain and some wind. Riley and Jeremy took us to a great little hole. Aaron managed to get himself a greenhead worth mounting. We ended up with a drake widgeon an 2 hens also.
Well a total of 8 birds. I'm not measuring success in what we shot. This trip was 110% successfull. Aaron got a bird to mount and had the time of his life hunting with our new friends and relaxing playing video games with Riley. All that matters is that he had a good time and was happy with the trip in a whole.
So again Thank You to you guys at TDF. The kid hunt was a success. Any kid would absolutely enjoy hunting with you guys. :) Pics are coming shortly.
-
Don't mind the dates as my camera keeps jumping a day ahead. So will post in order from Friday to Saturday's hunt. Weather wasn't real permitting for getting field pictures today.
-
An here is the last ones! :)
-
That's awesome, glad your son got some bird's. TDF guy's, you guy's are awesome for taking him out on a hunt he'll never forget. Hat's off to you. Nice pic's Snowman.
Oh yeah You TDF guy's want to take me out next year. LOL
-
Great job guys thats what its all about. Im thinking about doing a turkey hunt for a kid. :)
-
Way to go SnowmanJR!!! I knew he would have a good time! Team DeadFowl is a hoot to hunt with! Way to go Cory, Riley, Trevor, Jeremy and of course Heather! That's a hunt that will never be forgotten.
Snowman, how 'bout Riley and his duck call? I don't know what he's saying with that thing, but I'll just bet that it's a good thing our kids can't speak duck... :chuckle: I doubt it's G-Rated... :chuckle:
-
Very cool- Looks like that is one happy little man. I think it is really neat that you guys at TDF did this.
-
Great job all the way around. Things like this is what makes hunting in general and this site in particular such a great thing.
P.S. Now I finally know what TDF stand for Team Dead Fowl makes sense to me. I was wondering what TDF was along with YAR. Now in to threads I know without having to look unedumicated!

Yeah Riley is one heck of a caller. Also want to Thank You Jon at Willow Creek Taxidermy for doing his mount. I'm sure what ever way we have it done, will be great. An the kid will have it for many years to come. :)

Way to go Kid!
I see your wearing the lanyard I made for you. I also see a nice new bright shiny call on it too that I got for you. Did you use it to call in your bird? ;) I bet you out called the old man. :chuckle:

So I decided to take all the feathers from the ducks an donate them to my son's teacher, as he teach's the kids how to tie flies for fishing. :)

Ok thats a cool teacher right there! I miss the teachers of old. My woodshop teacher taught me how to build a stock and glass bed a rifle. Was my junior shop project. I miss those days.

I learned to tie flys from my high school art teacher. He let me do it for an entire semester and graded them. Man I learned a lot, he was tough! I had to turn out 10 or 12 flies just to get one that he was willing to "grade". And HE selected the patterns that I learned.... :chuckle:
-
Got the kids duck shipped out to WCT today! An the boys teacher was surprised by the donation of feathers. Him an his wife forked most of the money out for all their supplies for the club. We did get him signed up in time and his teacher takes extra time to teach how to tie flies during reccess. I've been amazed at how much his school really cares about the kids. Not to many schools anymore that go outta their way for kids. It's all about the WASAL Test.
