Thoughts and prayer's go out to the family, friends and police personnel around the country!!!!

Just watched the slide show and man was it hard. All the pictures of them with their families :(
-
Yes, a very moving ceremony. Such a tragedy. :(
-
Anyone watching it live???
its good the families are getting the respect and the 4 officers that lost their lives.
-
The 3 most memorable parts for me were the children of Sgt. Greg Richards talking about him, the officer singing "The Dance" (was also played at my dad's funeral), and the radio calls at the very end that were met with silence. "GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN".
-
Just saw an interview with a Wyoming officer, he drove the whole way, got here this morning and is heading back now. A bunch from Boston as well and a huge group 1000+ of Canadian Mounted Police and 1,982 cars in the procession.
-
Amazing support from the community, fire and police. A very touching service.

Mathew 5:9
"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

This may sound like I am an ass but I have a question. Do all these officers that attended get payed today for being there or are they doing it on there own time? Just curious.
-
I was wondering about that as well.
-
I thought I heard that most where doing it on their own time.
-
I hope that if I get shot while caffeinating up for work that people think I am a hero, too.
Can you be anymore of a disrespectfull ass?

I was working last night and 8 police in three cars stopped by the station last night to see if we could help them get their cars washed for the memorial. They are from the Bay Area and drove straight thru. Their cars were dirty. We helped them wash all there cars and get them shinned up. ( we made a ice rink in the parking lot from the water freezing. But it was worth it )They were a great bunch of guys.

I really didn't think someone would post a statement like that from our forum. Its something I would expect from punk not a sportsman of any kind..Try wearing a badge someday :bash:

I was at the Memorial all day today. Incredible event. Very encouraging to see all the support from around the country, plus Canada.
Honor guards from around the nation stood at attention for over an hour and a half in the below 20degree weather, respectfully waiting for the fallen officers families to arrive and enter the facility. Cops without thermals from California, Florida, and all over the nation.
The memorial was incredible. The most moving part for me is near the end when dispatch calls out for each officer, with no answer. Tearjerker.

These officers deserve to be honored and have a decent burial.
However in these times I question the expense. I can easily guess conservatively it will be in excess of a million. They had one for some fallen firefighters that was over 100 vehicles it was reported as costing over $100,000. That's a lot of public safety money.

Prob'ly so. I'm so old school that few of you could relate. Constitution, and all of that. Pity that, but so be it. This *censored*ry has become what you new-fangled pot-smoking troglodytes've made it. I do like to hunt, though, but I suppose that's irrelevant compared to all else? This'll be proof of that, I reckon?
Have any of you ever camped in the snow in a tipi in the rain forest and climbed the hills for days and finally killed an elk with a flintlock?
Prob'ly not. I'm sure that's reason alone to ban me.
wow that's quite an accomplishment, you spent a few days in the woods and killed an elk with a muzzle loader.Oh in a tent to.All the old schoolers I know have respect for the dead.Much like the Indians did.You would get the same response from the old real mountain men also, as you are here.what breed of horse did you ride from seattle to the rain forest..Perhaps you could make a bow from scratch and kill an antelope. You've done nothing more in my mind then to disgrace those whom you wish you could be like..

Us ‘new-fangled pot-smoking troglodytes?’
I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a drug abuser on these boards. If you want to come here and talk about you living in a tipi tent in some rainforest and climbing hills for days and days and finally killing an elk with a flintlock (which, by the way, many of us here have done), then go right ahead.
But with your disrespectful attitude towards the officers who were senselessly slain while on duty, you may want to find another place to spread your bull*hit.
So I pose a question to you much like you have us. Have you ever picked up a rifle and defended this country against the enemies who would have sawed off your head without a second thought about it? Or have you ever strapped on a pistol and a badge and gone to work, not knowing if you’re going to come home that night or not?
Probably not. And that in itself is no reason to ban you, but you find yourself joining a very patriotic group here, and your disrespect is not welcome here. Take it somewhere else.

Flint you talk about the constitution, freedom of speech etc. You won't find a group of guys that agree with you more then on HuntWa. Our amendments are important.
You however lack class and dignity!! The four officers were slain while meeting in a coffee shop. Ruby Ridge has zero relevance in this conversation so that also shows me you are ignorant.
-
ATF clowns? I would bet that flintlocker was a Claude Dallas fan as well. What a *censored*!
-
FlintlOCK, you should probably save your comments for people that want to hear them. I'm sure there is some redneck, inbred, militia group out there some where that would love to hear what you have to say. Your beliefs are your beliefs, but obviously this is not the place for them to be shared.
The hero's that this memorial was for were not only officers. They were sons and daughters, mothers and fathers and husbands and wives. Bottom line, regardless of your beliefs, show a little compassion. You never know who may be on here that was related to one of them or who was a friend or who just appreciated what they did on a daily basis. I'm quite certain that you are not capable of producing any offspring of this stature, but think for a second if you could. (If you didn't disown them for becoming fine upstanding citizens.) How do you think it would make you feel if you were one of those people?

My wife & I watched the ceremony. It was tough to not get chocked up or shed a tear. God bless all men & women in uniform it is a tough job.
On a side note, please don't let one negative person detract from a well intended thread.

Good point.
I don't suppose there's pictures anywhere? I was unable to see the procession, but I would love to see pictures.

Lakewood PD has set up a Facebook page for the officers here

God bless all who were touched by this tragedy and God help those who weren't.

Very well said sisu I started this thread out of respect for the fallen officer's and there families because it was a great memorial. Unfortunately one person on here doesn't know how to respect the deceased it appears and doesn't know when to shut his trap.

Yay!!! :brew: In my book anyone who shows disrespect for ANY law enforcement officer (military as well) does not deserve to be heard or taken seriously.

I can't believe the audacity of that prick! I just finally got to read the posts and it about sent me over the edge! Thankgoodness we've got a group of guys her that won't put up with it. Thanks KillBilly! :hello:

Shannon and others who asked about the cost,
Every officer I know who attended did NOT get paid, most departments I know of make the officers use vacation days. This may not be the case with all of them. The officers I personally know who attended where allowed to take vehicles and the gas was paid for, that's it. Personally I see no issue with departments paying wages to attend. These brave men and women do not get paid nearly enough for there service and sacrifice. My prays go to the family of the fallen officers.

Thanks for that link. But on the homepage had a picture of bikini clad baristas, so I can't keep that page open long here in the office! But I'll look more when I get off duty.
I listen to the stories that were posted on here earlier, and even though I can't generate a picture of what 20,000 police officers would look like, I did find myself getting a little choked up by the image of it. It must have been very moving.
-

I think it should be considered bereavement pay, they are a band of brother and sister!
-
Im good with free speach but flint was out of line on this one thanks for banning. Talked to a few officer I know, and they went or could have gone on their own time or by using their vacation. They could take a car if they wanted.
-
longstevo...
try this link specific to the photos of the memorial procession.

-
I'm certain that a good portion of the cops that went actually were paid for there time there if it was during their normal working hours. Most departments do not require one to to use vacation time to go to police funerals.

Thoughts and prayers

Ya might be true on the eastside, here, we find ways to get the shifts covered for patrol, that way anyone that wants to go can go. We also cover Lakewood PD's patrol area so all of their officers can go as well.
-
Yep, at 5am on the day of the memorial, we had SPD cruisers showing here in Lacey, probably to help cover for the day...
Tina Griswold was a past Lacey officer, and many Lacey officers were palbearers at the event...
-
I'm a bit disturbed about the questions regarding pay. Let's not forget the COST our FALLEN HERO'S paid, They gave their lives for everyone on this forum. Lets concentrate on that, not about the Officer's still willing to pay the same for you.
-
barneyfife, I hear ya'....but it is a legit question....
At our baby 101/Lamaz class I made the gawd awful mistake for asking how much the epideral would cost.:dunno: You should have seen the look on all those hormonal women.... It wasn't pretty for me for the rest of the classes... :jacked: My bad'
-
Out of respect to the four officers memory in this thread I will not debate the cost issue, but would be glad to in another thread.
-
I attended the precession and the memorial! To answer some of your questions I personaly did not receive pay. My department did pay for the hotel and meals, along with gas for my unit but that is it. I would have still went even if I had to pay for the whole thing myself. That is the least I could do to show my respect for my brothers and sister!
It was a long slow day but very well worth it. As a law enforcement officer I often get disgusted and discouraged with the lack of respect that people show officers these days. It just took that one day to drive those 10 miles and see all the people that lined the streets and have them look you in the face and tell you that they love you and appreciate you, there are still plenty out there that respect and appreciate law enforcement. I can tell you it was an amazing feeling and one that I will never forget.
May these Officer's Rest in Peace and God be with there families at this time!
-
If the cost of the percentage of time your LEOs spend to attend funerals for other officers killed in the line of duty is a real budgetary consideration in your jurisdiction, your jurisdiction has a hell of a lot bigger problems than the budget. Just let them waive a few of the liability and political correctness-based mandatory trainings that require a department to have two officers to put one on the street for 40 hours/week ...
I understand the fiscal responsibility question, but this isn't the right place to look to tighten expenditures.
-
I agree completely, when a fellow officer falls, there should be absolutely NO debate as whether the budget is over extended or not. On a side note, this is what I love about this forum. On a different thread, DOUBLELUNG and I disagreed on a topic, and now we can stand on eachother's side and agree with eachother without any hard feelings. Love it... 8)
