am i asking to much for my staineless .257 weatherby vanguard in the classifieds? i have it at $500 right now i just dropped the price! it has good nikon glass with talley rings and all the loading dies and brass and a whole new box of weatherby factory ammo. i love this rifle just got it i even have the box and manual that goes with it all. ill be leveing soon for the army so i just need to sell it for the $$$ wish i didnt but mother says no guns in the home when im gone! if im high on the price someone tell what i should ask for it? thanks to all who give suggestions
-
why dont you just put it in the pawnshop and renew it ever 3 or 4 months as necisary. the interest would be minimal and it would be safe. or let someone you know hold onto it for you. i wouldnt give up a good gun just because.

:)Looks like a good buy to me, all you need is someone who likes the Vanguard (my opinion it is a better gun than the Mark5) and the 257 WB. cartridge!! unfortunately neither is for me.
Come on you guys somebody wants it!!

I didn't know it was there, sounds like a decent deal to me. pm sent.
-
Ds like a good deal I imagine it's the time of year that's making hard to sell
-
It's a good price. I would not lower it. Although I prefer the Mark V it is something I would consider buying except I already have a rifle in 25 caliber.
-
did someone really say the vanguard is better than a mark 5? i hope it was a joke! as for 500.00 i would say its a good buy,the calibers a little spendy.
-
Better might be relative. It's a pretty practical proposal. The rifles are not that vastly different. Regardless- the price seems reasonable. Probably good for someone who handloads.
-
i bought this rifle new and can vouch for the history of it and the rounds fired.
it's definitely a shooter...
-
I think its a very good price
-
Not looking to stir up crap, A lot of folks, including myself, wouldn't own a Mark V and thier 9 locking lugs.
-
About what - it being made in Japan? I know - I have several scopes made in Asia but all my rifles are either European or American made. However technology these days permits manufacturers all over the world to build good rifles.
-
thanks to all of you guys! it looks like norsepeak is the luck guy im meeting tomarrow!
-
If you dont sell it, and you are going to help protect our country. Put it in my safe and get it when you return no problem. Mark
-
not trying to stir anything up,but i wouldnt own anything but a mark v.
-
Explain you reasons for not owning a vanguard, mark v are out of my price range or I would have one, but I have had a vanguard for a couple years and it's been good to me. It shoots better then 1 moa never broke or malfuntcioned. The trigger does stink the synthetic stock isn't the best , it's an affordable factory gun. Not a semi custom. What's your thoughts
-
I have owned a 7mm mag Vangaurd for over 20 years and a frozen fireing pin is the only issue I have ever had. Great gun :twocents: Mark

the vanguard that blmathis had used to be mine. it has a solid synthetic stock and a DIY adjustable trigger from the factory. it's a really good rifle for the money and is a friggin shooter...a mark V is a great gun, no doubt, but you're talking hundreds of dollars for pennies worth of improvement. :twocents:

:yeah:
I have an older S&W 1500 in .30-06 (my most accurate big game rifle) and a Howa Axiom (assembled from a separately purchased barreled receiver and U/L stock) in .223 (24" heavy barrel). Both "Vanguards" are quality made, accurate, reliable rifles... what more do you need? :dunno:

Yes but you can get Mark V rifles which are pretty well customed out from the factory. I agree with most of what you had to say. The major feature they tout is that the Mark V has a shorter angle on bolt lift , made in the USA and also offer more flexibility on options.
However the Mark V comes in lightweight and some semi-customized models. You really cannot compare the work on some of those rifles with the Vanguard series.
I have never seen a Vanguard from the factory look like this

You'd have to spend a lot more cash..

I can't see the pics you posted, Ray(firewall), nor can i get on weatherby's website(firewall) but they do have several different models of vanguard to choose from, from the $399 base model to a couple different semi-customs set in bell and carlson stocks, fluted barrels, etc etc etc.
-
I think they USED to have Vanguards with a fluted barrel and stainless... Anyway they definitely are not the same thing.
-
I think vanguards are a good deal especially considering that they are available in most of the Weatherby calibers where as most manufactures only offer the most popular ones.
-
Wish I could see the pics Ray, I have never seen a Mark 5 that was not God awful butt ugly, combined with a total piece of crap action the Vangaurd is a better gun. The browning (something) "gold medallion" I cannot remember is almost as ugly as Mark5's.
Eveyone has a opinion and that is mine. :)

You need to get out more.

That WDFW is exactly what I am talking about, BUTT UGLY!!!!!
Carl
-
I just purchased a Mark V Accumark last summer and I don't think it's ugly at all. It's comfortable to shoot and shoots good thats all I care about. Savage on the other hand..... just plain ugly.

Coming from a guy that thinks Tikkas are the *censored*....TFF!
-
The Tikka will never measure up to a nice Mark V or even semi-custom Vanguard when it comes to quality craftsmanship. They certainly serve thier purpose and that's basically a cheap straight shooting and lightweight rifle.
I agree that funny looking photo WDFW presented is a really damn ugly rifle. I have never seen something like it and would never buy it. Does it come with a Sombrero too?
-
:)Never said Tikkas were the *censored*, today they are the best buy around and outperform many rifles costing much more, like Weatherbys.
LOL

I have both and they shoot very good. Bought the Tikka for my long walks in the hills, my back aint what it used to be. The Weatherby is by far the better looking gun. :twocents: Mark

WDFW-SUX-
i like you, don't get me wrong, but that rifle is butt ugly.
:dunno:
sorry.

Well, you would'nt have been far off, straight *censored*...grin....

She doesnt photo well.. :chuckle:

The Tikka does not necessarily outperform the Weatherby Vanguard. They both seem to shoot equally straight in my estimation.
-
Vanguard .223cal with a Bushnell variable scope. 40 gr V-max dime groups at 100 yds off bench.
Tikka T-3 30.06 with cheapest Leo variable scope you can buy. 180 gr at 100 yd. 1 inch high & about one inch+ groups.
Both rifles are relatively inexpensive but shoot well.
That is all you need unless you have deep pockets or get the deal of a life time from someone.

Ray, 1970 Vangaurd 270 2x7 Redfield. Stock as bought new :chuckle:
-
the lewis county boys stick together and brilliant minds think alike . right jud. oh and mark v's all the way!!
-
Ray, 1970 Vangaurd 270 2x7 Redfield. Stock as bought new :chuckle:
It is a nice rifle but not as nice as the Mark V. It obviously does not also have all the same features as the Mark V, the wood looks like a similar stock make. I think you were trying to make a straw man argument that it is as good quality as the Mark V. It isn't.
My statement that I have never seen one like that Mark V is a true statement. It is not a statement that they do not exist. Which could be what you are also trying to make a response to. Which would still not make my statement inacurrate.

Just saying they can look as good as the Mark V. maybe a little weaker in the action. And for me it and my budget it's a nice gun.
This one has less than 3 boxes down the pipe, I've never shot it. Picked it up from a friend for the Misses! Paid $400 as it sits.
-
I am sure they can look as good as any custom stock will allow but they do not come from the factory like that these days. At least as far as their website currently states. They have dropped a lot of options in the past two years. Including all stainless steel options. A total loss.
Currently own one Tikka, One Remington 700 and one Weatherby. The Remington is still the favored rifle for me. Oh and the Weatherby outshoots the other two rifles so far... Not by much on the Tikka though..
-
Havn't looked to see if that model is still offered. That is how it came from the factory in 70. I get to shoot a Win.70 Blackshadow in 30.06 , she says I'm to rough on guns to have a PURRTY gun.LOL
-
Yeah I am rough on them too. I would like to turn my Weatherby into a nice looking gun. Changing the stock out would be sufficient. I like those deep colored tones in a stock. Much like yours except darker in color tone.
-
I picked up a plastic stock on fleabay cheap so if she ever lets me hunt with it I can change it! LOL
-
While I can appreciate nice wood, I like mine like this.
-
i'm sure they make a nice rifle, but i can't stand the shape of weatherby stocks. they're ugly as hell imho, too angular.
i could see myself buying a howa, though.
