Starting to reload my 243 brass and have been looking at the plethoria of bullets out there. and heres my question im looking for a bullet that will effectively and humanely put a dog down and at the same time not turn the pelt into a pot of hairy spaghetti.
ive been shooting the 55gr. winchester silver tips and they group well but the couple of dogs ive had the chance to shoot were both transformed into pots of gulosh

I dont know that your going to finda fur friendly bullet for a .243 :dunno: you might try the 80 grain partion the theroy being the bullet wont blow ub but just poke a single hole in and out? not sure but I'll be interested to see what the concensus is.

I use an 80 grain rated for deer. usually two small holes unless you hit the leg/shoulder bone!! eeeeeewwwwwwwwww.

Try Barnes Varmint Gernade. They make a 62gr for .243.

Im using 100 grain core lokts in my wifes .243, I only head shoot. The one in my tubb took a 270 thru the eyeball quarter size hole out the memory bank

thanks for the input guys, i was thinking about those 62gr hollow point varmit grenages from barnes or an 80gr bonded spitzer.
once again thanks,

I want to try Barnes 85 grain TSX in my 243. It doesn't seem like a coyote would be enough to cause the bullet to expand at all. That's what I would expect anyway but there's no way of knowing without trying it first. I would think the exit hole would be no bigger than the entrance hole.

i would go with the bonded spitzer :twocents: when i use my 243 which is rare now i use core locks works fine not to bad of holes

My hunting buddy uses the Nosler 80gr BTs in .243. They make a pretty good mess on exit, almost as bad as my 7mm with 100gr HP's.

If you do, let me know how they work.

Since I don't reload at this time, I'm going to try Hornady's 58 gr moly V-Max and 75 gr hp.
