But a couple years ago I got a pair of ladies ROCKYS and they ware well and have been waterproof and no blisters!. My feet don't hurt after a hard day of hunting, Gota love that! :twocents:

Post by: coop2424 on December 29, 2009, 10:50:16 AM: What kind of hunting do you do and what kind or terrain? I have both the Danner Pronghorns and the Cabelas Mendle Perfkts. They both serve a purpose depending on the terrain and conditions I am hunting in. Give us details on your hunting and we can point you in a direction but you will need to try them on to see what fits best for you.

You might also get some extra help of where to start looking if you let us know what type of boot (mid, low, high), features you are interested in (GoreTex?), materials, and PRICE. Also, whether you have a wide foot or other fit concerns can certainly help in a decision.

I have always spent around $100-150 on my boots and had to replace them after 2 years. if you are putting on more than 100 miles on your boots every year I would highly recomend these. They aren't cheap but they won;t let you down. I have over 150 miles on mine at this point and they are still going strong. they are rated for 400+ miles. Here is the link to them on the REI web site, if interested go and try them on, find the size the order them online for much cheaper. They are Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots, these are very stiff backpacking boots. Like any hunting/ camping gear you get what you pay for.

Post by: jackelope on December 29, 2009, 10:57:54 AM: I got a pair of 10" meindl perfekt hunters from cabela's for christmas. they rock. the only concern so far is they squeak but a lot of the reviews i have read say the squeaking goes away after a few miles of use, which i don't have on them yet.
a lot with good hiking boots comes down to a matter of how much you want to spend...so how much do you want to spend?

First season for me using them, put some serious miles on them straight out of the box, never got one blister or hotspot, hunted in a foot of snow for a week straight and never got wet or soaked threw once. They are light weight, tons of supports and very comfortable. They are expensive as with any good quality boot. I have had just about all the top boots from danners to the Perfect hunters but I love the Kenetreks's. I would be willing to bet that the Lowa's are great boots as well. Anything with a full taped around outer layer! Good luck on choice!

Mine did the same thing but I just used leather conditioner a couple times one night on the tongue of the boot and then mink oil over the whole boot. They have not sqeeked again since and that was two weeks ago and have worn them everyday. I do not think you would need the mink oil but I put that on all my boots. Just a suggestion since other than the sqeeking they are awesome boots...

Personally, I really like the fit of Asolo boots. I have owned the TPS 520's and currently wear the Fugitives, both have held up great. Took some time to break in, but that is typical. They run a little narrow in the heel and are average in the toe box.

Another boot that I'm a little interested in, and it is nowhere near looking like a "hunting" boot, is from Salomon. They make amazing trail shoes, and started making some new hiking boots that are very lightweight and fit very comfortably. They do tend to be slightly on the narrow side, especially if you are comparing to Merrell.

my bud wears some asolo backpack boots that he got for around $130.00 off of sierra trading post and he loves them.

Also the stitching started coming out in a couple of months on mine.
I wish that I had known that Cabela's had size 14 in their bargain cave, I would have checked them out. Sounds like a trip into town for me tomorrow!

I also have a pair of hiking boots - Raichle goretex full wrap that have been good - way more ankle stability than a danner. But they are only 6 inch boots and need to be 8 inch or 10 inch for what i have used them for. I always end up getting wet from the top side.

Lat only 6 months, what, the best boot out there. Around $200 and a great boot. Coak them with Obenhaufs and they will last everyday use for about 2 to 3 years if cared for.

I have mine now for a year, where just about everyday and still like brand new.

They are made for hiking (unlike a lot of Danners and Georgia's). I hike in the summer in them, I hunt all fall in them, and I even wore them on a 90 mile hike to Mt. Everest's Base Camp. I Love them!

Post by: NWTFhunter on January 04, 2010, 04:20:25 PM: If you purchased Danners that leaked or didnt last...... You purchased "Made in China" Danners. With any boot you need to keep them clean and well oiled. I have owned nothing but Danner for my military boots and hunting boots, and will never buy anything less. I have a pair of Danners that I can still wear dispite the lack of 1 1/2" stitching that I purchased in 89. Yes they are getting pretty "thin" in leather, but the best pair I have ever owned. The last pair I got in 95 are just getting a bit cracked as I never really took great care of them. Just basic cleaning the mud off, with no weekly oil and they are still great boots.

And to the guys on here that say their Danners have leaked within 3 months or so. Danner boots have a full one year warrenty. So why haven't they returned them ? It's what I wear and have no complaints what so ever.

Nice boots, I prefer the arcadia's for work but the Ft. Lewis is a quality boot and I don't think you will be disapointed with em.

Post by: .Forty_One on January 19, 2010, 03:38:44 PM: I needed new boots about 5 years ago, and took my time- tried on a silly number of different boots until I found a pair that actually fit my foot perfectly. Bought em there and then.
These are Vasque brand and were probably the best $200 I ever spent- they are still waterproof and fit perfectly after lots of use.
So take your time and try lots of them, and hopefully being picky will make you comfortable in the woods!

I tried the Danner Pronghorns which were comfortable but when I took em out for a day hike climbing up a mountain side they were eating the hell out of the back of my heels. I had to take them back I do have a a couple pairs of Danner work boots that have worked great tho.

Post by: MikeWalking on February 17, 2010, 10:08:55 PM: I've worn out 4 sets of soles on Vasque Sundowners...love'em. Not a good boot for Snowy weather. I did do a couple Snowshoe trips on'em but they're not warm enough for lounging in the snow.

Been using Cabela's Trail Runner Pac's for several years...year around...a bit warm in the summer. But they're very strong, stable, roomy. I'm pretty serious about footware these days, since diabetes showed up I don't wear shoes, boots etc...I wear Foot Armor..
