We went to Archery World in Vancouver today. I couldn't believe how many top of the line bowes they had in stock! :yike: Then there was a whole wall of used bows there too.
-
yep they keep a pretty big selection there
-
I shoot a Parker Wildfire XP Compound and A Heritage Impala Recurve ( both budget bows) and they both work well! Haven't starved yet!

Martin Slayer Extreme

I shoot a PSE Fireflight (I like my antiques)
As of Monday I now shoot a Howett "The Stick"
I used to shoot an old Bear recurve (name wore off so cant remember the model) But it finally gave up the ghost and delaminated.

I bet you can do it. Not sure if 80lbs is sufficient. Light arrow and close to a hundred lbs and it will be a smoking fast arrow.
-
I retired from the bow searchin' & tryin' several years ago.... with my Switchback XT.
2 OR blacktails, 1 ID whitetail and 1 OR bull elk wished I hadn't.
I'd bowhunt WA for bull elk but my 300 Win Mag keeps barking year after year. ;)

'08 parker wildfire 63#
-Wildfire
-
03 Ben Pearson Freedom. It does its job when I do my job. Still thinking about a new one every year, but other stuff takes priority(new pack and spotting scope will most likely trump a new bow for 2010).
-
How light of arrow will you have to shoot to get that speed?
-
Bowtech sniper
-
Hunting: Mathews Switchback....still hard to beat
3D: Alpine Ventura Target....I'm easy to beat, but the bow is pretty much perfect!

how do you like that bow?
-
just got my maxxis 31 on friday, got it sighted in today. this bow is so nice and is really fast. I only have a 26 inch draw and at 70lbs and with a 420 grain arrow i shot 275 feet per sec. i would recommend this bow to any one.
-
2009 PSE brute.
-
Pronghorn T/D longbow 58@28
Horne Ridge Runner recurve 69@28
Raptor Signature Flatbow 57@28
These are my 3 hunters, though the Horne is new to me and I haven't had a chance to get it out, plus a few more that need to get some field time.

your numbers do not add up?
the maxxis has a IBO speed of 323fps
so at 26" draw you are 4" under that is a 10-12fps loss per inch....that=40-48fps loss
so 323-40=283fps or 323-48=275
so now the arrow ..the bow is shot with a 350 grain arrow and you are shooting 420grains
so 420-350=70 grains so 70 div by 3=23fps loss in arrow speed
so just in draw and arrow that should be 63-71fps loss
323-63=260fps
still a great bow but its not that fast are you sure its 26" you should have #2 cam with module A
what arrow are you shooting? and what tip? and how long?
it is real hard to get a 26 or 27" arrow to weight 420grains.
I can set one up when I get back to the shop next week.
-
elite e-500 couldn't be happier.
how do you like that bow.The bow is awsome at 58# able to get 307 fps. perfect for 3-d and hunting wish i could get another 1.

This is for xxx archery. Iam shooting easton h.i.t axis 340 camo well lets do the math, at 10.3 grains a inch arrow is 27 inches = 278.1 add nock 9 grains insert 16 grains = 100 grain muzzy broadhead you get 403.1 now add 4 blazer vanes at 5 grains total weight 423.1 oh and i have them wrapped. so you can get a 27 inch arrow to weigh 420 grains. oh by the way i shot the bow at the dealer i bought it at through his chrono.
-
07 Bear Instinct maxed at 60lbs.. need to order in 70lbs limbs and get another bow some year lol

That fine ...I will set one up at 26" when I get back.....like I said Great bow but the #'s dont add up....sorry
not all chronos are right...but every bow will loss 10-12fps per " of draw and 1 fps for every 3 grains over in arrow weight.
if you shot your bow at 5grains per lb. it would be shooting 300? that means you only lost 23 fps in 4" of draw..
do you have the #2 cam and the A mods on it?
if you have your hoyt limbs all the way down it will max about 74lbs all of my new hoyts are all 4-5lbs over.
-
PSE Nova, works for me never not filled the freezer with it, in 5 years taken 55 deer with it, got to love the unlimited bag limits.
-

I have an Elite also. It's not the E 500, but I love mine. It is the fastest, smoothest bow I have ever shot. The company used to be here in Walla Walla, which is why I bought the bow. I think they have since moved to New York.
-
named her alice. she was so cute that it couldnt have been her fault that i missed my first shot at an elk with a bow :bash:

The Hoyt AM32 is so freakin sweet. I havn't named it yet because I didn't kill anything last year. I believe that until a bow has a kill it should not be allowed to have a name.

I had to hang up the pre-owned Thunderstick III (64" longbow; 62# at 28") that I'd enjoyed for about ten years. So this past season was my first with a pre-owned Ron Fox (founder of Fox Archery) 66" longbow; 65# at 28".
-
well before reading the post i saw the shred name " Name your bow" so i spent about a full minute trying to think of a name for my bow, i didn't want to open the thread cause i didn't want to see what anyone else named there bow. Anyway i couldn't think of one so i opened the thread and i guess all i need to say is
"bowtech guardian"
-

I've been doing a little bow hunting off and on the last couple of years. I shoot a Martin cougar. Anyone have any opinions on it? I really have nothing to compare it to, since its actually the only bow I've ever shot. I think it shoots good, never killed anything with it though. Got it from a friend for a pretty good price ( I think ).

Martin Cheetah . Ill proobably never deal with anyone but martin . My cheetah got dry fired last hunting season and shattered one of the limbs and bent the cam . I took it to a local bow shop thinking I would be paying alot of money to get fixed or end up buying new bow, oh yeah i'm the second owner of this bow which was purchased on ebay and didn't come with warranty .The bow shop called martin and they said that they would honor the warranty and replace both limbs ,cams ,string and axles I wasvery surprised and relieved.Kinda dissapointed the bow shop employee he wanted to sell me a new bow and just about did until Martin called back with the good news.

Usually means your draw length is too long haus, shorten it up a bit and that should go away!

Or it's cuz I'm just a newb. ;) happened in my first brief shot session with the bow. put about 60 through it Tuesday and didn't do it once. Just new and had only shot my first bow, a 30" DL for couple months prior to, which was so cramped for me I could get away with holding the bow completely wrong and not get tagged in the arm for it. Lots of mechanics to work on, but this bow is just awesome, very forgiving. Hitting accurate at 40yds despite the fact that I'm shaky and still working on not torquing the thing, plus have a tendency to pull the release like I'm shooting my 300 win mag haha. shoot and shoot some more......

You guys will probably laugh...
47# Alpine that a writer friend sent me.
I started with a (state-of-the-art) 90# Jennings T-Star Elephant Bow in 1981... :chuckle:
In 93ish a friend who owns a bow shop upgraded me to a 70# Hoyt Raptor. It was way faster... :chuckle:
In 2006 while bowhunting in NZ I ripped my muscle from an old arm wound and couldn't shoot anything for a year.
Then my writer friend gave me the Alpine and I can shoot it OK, have gotten a three animals with it. I think it's way faster than the old Jennings... :chuckle:
-
