Lots of us have voted for our worse game meats, so figured I better ask what's everyone's favorite game meat.
I will give you only one vote on this poll, if there is something you like that is not listed, just post and I will add it to the list.
-
That's a tough one. Elk for big game, pheasant for bird, halibut for fish. If I only get one choice I'll go pheasant. (please add)
-
Walleye
-
Moose
-
I have to say Elk. I love pheasent too but didn't see it up there, even if it were I'd still say Elk........because if you only shoot one, you get a lot more meat from and elk than you do a pheasent. :chuckle:
-
What about boar? I do love my carolina BBQ :)
-
No walleye?
-
dall sheep hands down. i have lots of game and lots of real good game but dall sheep is the tops :twocents:

I've never had Dall sheep...............now I have to move that closer to the top of the list and go kill one. :chuckle:

I went back and forth from sturgeon to elk and finally I asked my wife to help me make the decision- we went with sturgeon. I have yet to find a bad recipe and my mouth waters at the thought of some-yum
-
You forgot Oryx, I heard it is some of the best table fair.
-
It isn't easy to pick just one. Elk is consistently good, but the best meat i ever had was Whitetail tanderloins. I shot a nice fat doe in my inlaws apple orchard in Indiana. The area is surrounded by corn and soy bean fields, oak woods full of acorns. We cleaned her out, cut out the loins, sprinkled on some salt and pepper and grilled em up till they were just warm inside. Yup, thats my pick. :cue:
-
Elk........ :)
-
Cougar backstrap, grilled, fried, suateed, etc. Yum!
-
bison , hands down. but then, I've never had dall sheep. not the first time I have heard that.
-
Grouse, by far the tastiest bird out there.
-
I thought that elk couldn't be beat. Then I shot a moose and it is THE best meat that I've had. Even my wife loves it.
-
Moose, fresh halibut, fresh Red salmon, prawns & scallops (that are as big as a bull's balls)
-
i went with cougar because its the best i've had and i haven't eaten a lot of stuffs on dat dare list yous got.
-
I added walleye and oryx as requested.
I put moose as my favorite, but that was kind of tough deciding.... :chuckle:
So far it looks like Elk is pretty popular, with moose coming in strong 2nd place. :)
-
I am going to have to go with Moose.
-
Sisu, I gotta agree with you on the fresh Halibut thing. There is a place in Seward that will take it right from you and cook it any way you want, straight from the dock, great place but can't remember the name, maybe a Greek place? We (my cousins and I) also cooked a shore lunch this past year when we outta Valdez with fresh caught Halibut that was tremendous as well.
For me the favorite is Moose, I've had cougar and lots and lots of elk, both of which are excellent table fare. But from start to finish, Moose is all around best for me.

i was having troubles deciding then i saw swordfish on there, only had it once but it is very tasty
-
ELK  and if its a cow   yup double drool

dachs.
over here we like to do a mix of boar, reh, and dachs in our bratwurst and salami.
-
:dunno: would it be too obvious if I said, ELK !
-
Pheasant, along with either Valley or Mountian Quail.
-
When I was growing up, our next door neighbor (who had hunted all over the world) used to say Dall Sheep was the best meat. Jack O'Connor was on record saying the same thing...must be something to that... :dunno:
-
the best I have had so far was moose! absolutely phenomenal! but I have not had that much..
-
ive had 18 out if the 25 choices on the list and its dahl sheep with moose as a close second
-
I've never been able to decide between moose and elk

This post made me go back and count too. I've had 17 of them.
-
I've never had goat or oryx :dunno: what are thhey like?
-
I've had 21 of these and maybe goat and sheep as well, can't remember if my dad fed me any of his. Missing from the list would be alligator, snapping turtle, snake (gotta represent those reptiles). It's been so long since I've had moose I can't really remember its taste.
-
mudhen! :)

I have had rattlesnake (very good) and alligator (not so great), never had turtle...

Had alligator, tequila sauce covered it too much to tell, snapping turtle is way better than sea turtle, sea turtle was really fatty. Would ;like to try rattler but the only time I ever saw any was with my ex and she was a big scaredy snake baby.
-
Had antelope at deer camp in 08' for the first time. Yelp made biscuits and gravy with it and I found myself sucking off the gravy to get to the antelope meat. Just incredible. Of course he took excellent care of it after shooting it. Absolutely delicious! :EAT:
-
Trigger Fish! Tastes alot like crab meat...So good they now have a 16" minimum size limit, here! Alot of good fish,in the other fish category...The Oceans are full of food, dudes! This site is always making my stomach growl!

Moose Period. end of discussion. :hello:
-
Well I have to say elk love that red meat
-
No chuckar??? Other than that, Moose.
-
Elk was my favorite until last year, moose is my favorite now :)
-
This is interesting too, more than 1 in 3 said elk is best.
-
You forgot Oryx, I heard it is some of the best table fair.
When I saw this poll, I wondered if it would be on here and it is now. This is not even close for me.
When we hunted oryx in New Mexico I was asking some of the guys from there how it eats. The only quote they gave me was to ask, "How do you like elk meat?" I replied, "I love it".
"Well, if you get home and don't have room for the oryx, throw out the elk!"
I figured that was a pretty bold statement until I harvested my oryx and got to get it on the grill. It not only was the cleanest smeeling game I have harvested it tastes great. In way of additional support for its great tasste, I have served it to a fair amount of friends and to a person they all asked if I had any that I could share.
If you ever get the chance or have thought about trying for the New Mexico draw, make sure you go. It is a great hunt and great game meat.
-
Dall sheep is the best that I have had.
-
How bout deer:Axis! It's on my top three anyway! ;)
-
thanks littlemac, I was thinking of going after one of them someday.... :)
-
I selected Elk, but it is because I haven't tried many on the list - moose, caribou, etc.
Bear is my other favorite, but it has been awhile since I have had any around.
-
At first I as going to say any of the wild sheep but to get specific, I too will go with Dall sheep with Stone a close second.
