If I were to hunt Oregon, it would be on good private ground; or, with an outfitter in the Snake River/Imnaha country where 7 to 10 days of killing yourself might get you a chance at a 180" buck.

Years ago was. Cat dominance took care of that along with some really tough back-to-back-to-back winters in the mid 90's........

there are alot more big bucks in Oregon than most people think, I hunt the big vast open sage country and we see bucks 180 or better every time we go but their tough to get on, and lots of big rattlers down there. Junipers and sage grow them big. First time I went killed a 171'' five by five, the next year my buddy took a 178'' inch, the last year I went, we were on one that was in the 190'' inch range and another that would of been if he didn't brake his main beem off at the g4. tons of blm that butts up next to private ranchs do some foot work and you'll be surprised. It always opens the last full weekend of Aug. I think its important to get on them with the velvet still on.
Sounds like you are bowhunting headhunter. How often are you able to draw that unit?

andrew 12 gauge is right all but a hand full of units are otc end of aug through the end of sept, it get very hot but well worth it.
I guess I just assumed that since you were seeing big bucks regularly, that you were in one of the bow draw only units. So that is with an OTC Tag? Impressive.

How many points do you have? You have about a 1 in 5 chance of drawing the Umpqua tag with 7 points. But with Columbian whitetails, you really need access to private land, so you would need to make some calls, not alot of public land. For mulies, try the Trout Mountains... bad odds of getting drawn, but decent genetics.

That is probably why they did it?
So their revenue could go down? Or so they would have to deal with less out of state hunters?
