Well I made an initial pick for a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon pup when they were 4 weeks old. Now that they are 6.5 weeks old the one I picked is turning out to be a loveable little couch potato. Not too adventurous at this point. I know it's really about impossible to see what a 6, 7 or 8 week old pup will turn out like, but I changed males, his initial personaility seems more like what I am looking for, much more of an explorer, bold, and really uses his nose. Here are some photos.

cute looking little guys...
-
you traded in your pupppy, heartless :chuckle:
cool, looks like you got a change of direction using dogs out hunting. alot better looking dogs than the last ones you had to ;)
-
Tell me it isn't so!! You abandoned that poor little pup after he gave you nothing but devotion. I am appalled.

I use to hunt with a guy that had a Griffon. When at home or at quail camp you would have thought the dog was nothing but a lazy, spoiled, ugly bag of bones covered by what looked like hair with the texture of 16 guage wire, ( in fact one time we had two of the guys in camp get drunk and start arguing which end of the dog was better looking the nose or the rear).
BUT, once the guns were uncased and the owner said "Hunt em up", it was all the Labs and Britts could do to keep up with him.

Nice looking pups.

My wife says "They do grow up to be ugly dogs" :chuckle:

My wife won't let me get one because they are ugly. Little does she know it will definatly be my next dog. But I have a long time since I ended up keeping one of my pups from Aug.

Ouch, I like the way my Leoaprd Curs looked, but I really liked the way they hunted and handled. :)

:chuckle:, im just jealous of the way they hunt and handle

Good looking pups!

Cute little suckers. I'm thinking that one of those dogs is my next dog, as well. Since it's going to be a house pet 9 months out of the year, I actually wouldn't mind that lazy little guy. I'm thinking that it's not going to be a problem getting any of them to hunt and my dog training ability isn't going to win me (or the dog) any prizes, anyway. I just want to shoot pheasants.
Wish I was in the market for a dog...I'd go look at him.

I'm a pointing dog nut and that first pic is dynamite!!! Have fun, nothing like a nice dose of puppy breath ;)

And you know what there is no way to tell, he'll probably end up a little fireball anyways. This pup was my first choice initially. It's so hard to choose from photos and short 1 min. videos anyways. It's a crap shoot with pups, you look for pedigrees with good hunting lines and good hunting parents and you lessen the odds of getting a dud and greatly increase the odds of getting a good hunting dog. It was a toss up between the two and right now anyways this pup is just acting more like what I'd like to see in a pup. The Griffs are such good compainions dogs as well. That is one of the big things I was attracted too, as well as the closer ranging type dogs that does a great job on waterfowl. It's going to be alot of fun getting him trained up in upland, waterfowl and trailing.

Did you get a new puppy? What did you name it? What kind is it? Are you going to post a photo? :dunno:

:) I drive over to Missoula, MT next Sat and pick him up. Haven't decided on a name yet. He's a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. I'll post photos as soon as I get him home.

Absolutely, when you get ready to try one or two out call Mr. Randy Oller in northern Cal. He has some really top notch big game Leopard Curs. He switched from walkers about 25 years ago and runs and trees about 40+ bears every year. I have personally seen him unsnap two dogs on a fresh bear, dogs take off signing, he walks over and see cub prints in the mud. Calls his dogs off and they came back and hopped back on the box. They will go all day on a bad bear. They would do everything my blueticks used to do without the knuckleheadedness. I have seen him walk up to a bear tree with 6 dogs at the base going to town, take photos and tell his dogs lets go and they walk back to the truck with him, off leash. But you need to get McDuffie lineage Leopard Curs and don't make the mistake of thinking Catahoulas and American Leopard Curs are the same dogs. It's like comparing blueticks to blue heelers. When you get ready, let me know and I'll put you in touch with Mr. Oller.
