I am wondering if you could help me. when do you hardcore shed hunters start looking for deer. last year on my first trip i was having a great time untill 3 bucks with nice racks walked past me :bash:
-
march for me
-
I never stop looking
-
around FEB 1 for fresh ones. Muleys that is.
-
I saw a bachelor herd of 4 the day before yesterday, all packin' except a 2 point that was missing his right side, but that could have been from earlier in the season. I've never seen that particular deer before.

When do the whitetails start dropping? I have a 5x5 at my cabin I have been getting picture's of him at the feeder would like to find the set. was thinking it would be nice to get a cape and have them mounted to put in the cabin.

super bowl weekend for blackies

I never start looking, but as of late I have been waiting until later to give them a break. I am sure it costs me some sheds, but someone has to make the first step. there are competetive guys going for them at Christmas. they push it earlier and earlier each year and if we aren't careful we will lose the priviledge until MAY

Well said bone! it is getting closer and closer to a shed season and with our game department we will probably going to have to buy a permit to look for them. :twocents:

Or leave them lay in the woods and just take pics... Property of the State!
-
Yea right, the day I let a shed lay..........
-
Sort of like a pursuit only season.
-
I am honestly surprised that the state hasn't decided to cash in on it by making us buy a permit to do it. How have those money-grubbers missed that one...?

I am new to shed hunting this will be my 3rd season. I always started around mid to late march to let the elk also drop their sheds and let them begin to leave the winter ground even if I knew deer sheds had already hit the dirt. But in the areas I like to go the hunting seasons now push the animals until jan 31. So their are already deer sheds seen coming out of the hills mostly small whiteys but got alot of the shed hunters worrying about (their spot) so they are hitting the woods earlier than normal. I think I will wait even if it cost me a few of the meager sheds I do find.
