any 243 shooters have a nice load to blow up some yotes. not worried about the hide so the more damage the better. i just got a M70 with a 22" barrel and 1 in 10 twist. looking for a nice round that will stabilize with this barrel configuration.
thanks,
-
I'd probably use Nosler Ballistic Tips if I wasn't worried about the hides.
-
I have a friend that uses 55 gr bullet and varget. Major destruction.
-
i havent been able to start reloading yet, due to my financial state but ive shot a few with the 55gr. ballistic tiped winchester silver tips, turned them all into piles of goo. hit one at 30 yards right in the shoulder and it blew a hole in it about the size of a basketball. very effective even out to 300, hit one at apprx. 300 in the pocket dropped it where it stood, left the pelt ok for but not sellable.

I have used most of the 55gr bullets and had similar results. I use sierra because they are cheap to buy and accurate in my rig.
-
i bought a couple boxes of 55gr nosler ballistic tips and haven't shot them yet. I am going to reload once i get some brass and figure out what bullet i want to shoot. I just dont want to waste a bunch of money on powder i wont use. and where the hell do you get primers at these days....holy crap.
-
Hornady 58 gr moly V-Max... can get them for less than $20.00 per box online. I'm doing a bulk purchase next month.

52.5 grains H414 is your honey w/55 NBT.

Any suggestions for 90 or 100 gr spbt with H414?

sweet. thanks. i've been reading quite a bit of loads using that H414. I went to cabelas to get it but of course they were out and they only ordered 1lb. yippee. sarcasticly - i love cabelas.
-
Hillbilly, Wholesale Sports has increased their inventory of reloading supplies. That is where I got mine, although in Burlington. Sportco in Fife also has powder and primers, though they were only selling 200 at a time.
Cabelas generally sucks for actually purchasing anything. :(
-
thanks. i'll check it out when i get some time.
I have had nothing but bad experiences at cabelas everytime i go there. :violent1:

my tikka .243 loves 52 gr of H380 with a 55 gr Nosler Balistic tip. Shoots 3950 fps and makes amess if u hit some bone. this yote was from 80 yards on sunday
-
Wow!, awesome picture and great performance by Nosler bullets.
-
Good deal. i happened to purchase two boxes of 55gr nosler BT so hopefully i can get her to shoot well.
here is the new purchase. Im pretty impressed with the redfield so far.
-
nice looking gun. Go get some blood on it :P :P
-
i got a chance to shoot the gun the other weekend and wasn't super impressed. i was shooting federal vital shok 55gr NBT. i only shot 4 times though. two shots about 1" apart and 8" high so i dropped it down to 1.5" high and took two shots that were just under 1.25" apart. Maybe I need a heavier bullet? :dunno: or just shoot it some more. :tung: eventually i'll try some handloads, but i bought these factories to get the brass and to shoot any critters that happen to stumble into the property.
-
I know allot of guys shoot them but I have never had good luck with Federals :twocents: :dunno: :)
-
thats the next gun i want to buy is a remington 700 SPS left hand in .243
-
I just use what the rifle is sighted in for. Which is a deer load, 100gr Hornaday interlock. I use IMR 4350 with it. Seems to turn coyotes inside out just fine!

I shoot a similar load 55gr Nos BT with 46gr H380. Just to be safe the hodgdon reloading site has 51 as max Load?

How much 4350 do you use? Thanks.
-
I will check when I get home. On shift now. I think it is 40.5gr IMR-4350, PLZ don't quote me on this. The older I get, the worse my memory gets! The load is not a max load, but it shoots well in both .243's we use. I have the load in my note book, and it's written on the box'es the shells are in. I will try to confirm saturday.
-
40.5gr IMR 4350 should put the 100gr interlock between 2800 and 2900 fps. It drops deer in their tracks as well as coyotes. PLZ do your own research before using any loads given on this site!
-
hornady makes some 58 grain bullet that will easily kill a coyote out to 350 yards.

Thanks C, I'll check it with my books. I bought some 414 for this gun but have the 4350 that I use for my -06.

Yes, memory was right. I use 40.5gr of imr-4350. Just smoked a coyote yesterday with that load.

Agreed.. I shoot these and they work great
-
Just bought a 243 an I'm going to load the 55gr noslers in front of h414 for predator/varmint duty. I'm looking at using the 105gr amax in front of retumbo for deer.

Let me know what u find once you start working with that combo, I'm working on a load with that exact bullet but just haven't had enough time lately.
-
I shot a few of the A max 105's out of the .243 this morning and just can't seem to get a tight group. I'm using 7828 so hopefully a different powder will tighten it up, how many grains of retumbo were you thinking? I might load a few up and try it out.
-
i would say a 55 gr. NBT or the 55 gr. winchester ballistic silvertip
-
Well 46grs (2772fps) of retumbo is starting load and 49grs compressed (2986fps) is max . I know I've read a lot on it and they say normaly the fuller the case is the accurate and uniform the pressure and vel will be so Ill let you know what I can do. I should get out this week and start on the 55gr noslers and the H414
-
The 55gr Noslers would be a good choice as they have a higher bc than a lot of the 60 to 70 gr bullets.

It suprised me to see the 55gr 243 has a better bc then a 55gr .22

Ya higher than hornady vmax 58gr also. :rockin:

I bought a pack of the Speer 70gr TNT (b/c .282) bullets to try out in my Remington .243, still haven't gotten to loading them yet. I don't have first have knoledge of these bullets, but i have heard some impresive results from people that have used them. The heavier bullet might be better for your twist rate.
As to the higher b/c of the lighter bullet, i've searched the Noslers 55gr Varmint BT to be at .276 b/c and Noslers 70gr Varmint BT at .310 b/c. It has allways been to my understanding that usually the heavier bullets have the higher Ballistic Coefficient.

That's usually the case but if you look at Hornady Vmax 65 gr vs the Nosler 55 gr, the Nosler 55gr has a higher BC, also higher than the 60 gr Sierra, I didn't say the Nosler 55 gr had a higher BC than ALL the 60 to 70 gr bullets, just a lot of them. :chuckle:
By the way welcome to the site!!!
-
Well load some rounds now I just need a good day to go shooting
-
Loading some 105's tomorrow, hopefully will shoot them saturday. I'll let you know if I find anything good.

Nosler SAYS it has a higher BC, but sometimes the bullet companies exagerate, or outright lie about their bullets' BC's.
I'm not saying it isn't what they say it is, but just that you can't always believe the numbers they provide.
-
I think noslers close. The 65gr vmax is only a few thasands longer then the 55gr nosler.
-

any update yet demontag. i bought some h414 but haven't loaded anything yet.
-
yeah out of my mossberg the 55gr nosler and h414 are shooting under a .5" I need to get some amaxs still.
Think it was around 43grs I posted a pic and the load on here I think its back a few pages in the treads.
-
whats the load data ya got? :tung:
-
I love my .243 Tikka, it shots same hole and/or touching holes without fail. Not gonna post my load data as everybody else's is probably better than mine :chuckle:
-
Well 43grs of h414 is what the mossberg like but every gun is diff. Even with max load it was shooting well under 1 Moa so it could have just been the nut behind the trigger lol
-
Well haven't found any a-max bullets yet so my dad loaded up some 95gr nosler BT and 41grs of h414 and all I can say is one hole. Dad printed three shots in a ragged hole with my mossberg and three touching with his howa.
-
good news..thanks for the update. i actually think i purchased the h414. now i need to find some 95nosler BT!! i have some 87gr. V-max..wonder if those would work. think i could find the load data on hogdens website for this round?
-
Should be on there. I'm going to order some a max next
