Just bought a Blue/Syn Tikka T3 lite in .243 for coyotes. Kind of a neat little rifle I love how liight it is. Bought two boxes of cheap ammo to run through it but now I have to figure out what weight of pills I want to start loading for yotes. Off to the range. WooHoo!! Havent decided on the scope, probably my 4.5X14 Burris. :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo:

Gut,
Gotta let us know how it shoots. I'm getting ready to get a new lightweight .243 and haven't made up my mind yet... the T3 is one that I'm considering.
Take a look at the Pentax Pioneer 4.5-14 (check Fox Optic). From what I read, it is the same scope as the Burris (made in the same factory in the Philippines), but a whole lot cheaper.
-
I'll let you know. If the weather holds I'm gonna go play tomorrow. I already have the Burris that I'll take from my 220 swift for now. Haven't decided yet what I want to do. Thinking about buying another Bushnell 3200 Elite but not sure yet.
Also not to sure if I like the factory rings. They seem a bit cheesy, I may buy some Warnes.

My Tikka T3 Lite .243 is a tack driver. I recommend the Barnes Varmint grenade for hand loads.
powder c.o.l. gr fps gr fps
62 GR. BAR VG FB Winchester 760 .243" 2.620" 43.5 3427 or 46.3 3631

Congrats on the new gun. Let us know how it shoots..

I wish I wouldn't have seen this. I didn't want to use the varmint grenade because the B.C. is so bad on them I was going to look at B-Tips and V-max but now I'll have to look at the Barnes to. They sure work well in the 220 swift and .223 I just wanted something that flies a bit better since this rifle will be for late season long shots. How have the grenades been on the hides? I assume they arent real friendly.

hey gut Ive got 100 grain core lokts for mine.Im curious what fur damage that would do..I only head shoot, but if the 100 grain will blow through with no explosions that would be cool...i hate to waste a kitty also...havent shot anything with it yet
-
I've heard those work good for coyotes but not sure about cats. I bought two boxes of 80 grn Winchesters since they were the cheapest on the shelf. I'll play with those till I figure out the load I want to go with.
-
Hey Gut,
Those rings look cheasy but they seem to work pretty well. My 25-06 is holding zero very well using the stockers.
-
Guess I'll try them. They sure look "lacking"
-
Hey, clear out some of those PMs!

Hey, clear out some of those PMs!
Done. Oops. :P

I am sure it will be a shooter, my wife and brother shoot the same sun in 270 win it is a great great gun drives tacks. it shoots 1/2 min allot of the time. i would recommend that gun to anyone and everyone.
-
I love my tikka T3 lite. Have it in .243 and 300 win. I left the stock rings too. Don't look like much, but they sure hold a group. 52 gr of H380 and 55 gr Nosler BT is nasty medicine!!!
First kills for both Tikkas this year
-
Since you're running a 22.5 inch barrel on that, I may suggest a 55gr Nosler since it has a higher BC than a 65 gr Vmax and run some fairly fast/med rifle powder like H4895, Varget, BL-C2, H380. I'd expect about 3750 to 3850 out of your gun. Speed kills.
-
Thats the route I was leaning. I was gonna go heavier but thought I'd go fast with the light pills instead.
-
what is the rifling twist?
-
I believe Tikka .243's are 1:10 but not 100% sure.
-
yeah they are, i just checked thier website. the M70 I just picked up has the same twist so I might have to try out Big 10's load as well.
-
the Tikka s are typically 1:11 twist, at least mine is....
I also do some heavier loads in Nosler but I find the best consistency in the Barnes Bullets because they are all machined instead of cast. I heavily favor a Nosler accubond on the heavier end but there is way more variation in weight from bullet to bullet. If you are not weighing and matching your bullets, then no problem. It is something I do because I can.
-
I have the Tikka in the .22-250 for yotes and the .270 for deer. Good guns.
-
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That thing is a shooter. They weren't kidding about 3 shot groups less than an inch. I'm very happy. I shot up a box of the cheepest stuff I could find and it shot great. Can't wait to work up a load for this. Can't wait to bloody it.
I'll admit, I was pretty skeptical about all the hub bub about these Tikkas but I'm a believer. If you want a really light and afforable Varmint rifle the T3 lite is a great choice.
-
yep my little bros t3 lite shoots as good as my sakos love them and a great price also. i am sure you will find a sweet load for it and have it 1/2 min at 100 they are fantastic!
-
let me know if you find a good load gutpile. I have the same rifling and length of barrel so I assume I would have similar results......just maybe some minor tweeking. Glad you got a shooter! now go find a doggy to give a dirt nap to.
-
Will do.
-
check out the 55gr. winchester/nosler silvertips. im running those out of my m77 hawkeye .243, 0.5" high @100yds and its hold dead on at 300, i am running the factory winchester load though, and very impressed doesnt save the hide but puts them down with authority
-
the winchester/nosler are called combined technology they can be found at most suppliers i buy mine from natchez shooters supply. i am running them out of the 7mm-08's they shoot great plan to try some in the bushys very soon also. them and nosler ballistic tips are my yote bullets. partitions for hunting big game.
