Just curious who all shoots a .204 ruger and what your favorite bullet for yotes and bobs?
I shoot a ruger mkII ultralight. Right now i'm shooting 32gr v-max.I haven't had any issue with these bullets but haven't shot a yote past 300 yard with them yet.
-
Ruger ultralite allweather. Either 32 grn vmax or 40 grn vmax. depends on what I can find.
-
Remington VTR. Same bullets as 509er. I have had better luck with 40 grain latelty.
-
i bought a .204 2 weeks ago just to have something to mess around with. its a single shot New England and holy crap can that thing shoot!!!. after i got it sighted in the first 3 shots i had at 100 yrds were in the same hole!!! i was blown away!! i took it all the way to 500 yrds and was hitting the inside the rim of a paper plate everytime! its a tack driver. im using 32 grain vmax

I've thought several time about getting a .204 upper but .....just can't justify it. I'd love to have one one day.
-
My go-to is a Cooper Montana Varminter .204 w/ 40 grain V-max.

Me too!! I can justify it but just bought a Muzzy, a .243, and another .260. Don't think mama would be happy if I bought yet another toy. BTW there is a .204 upper for sale on Predatormasters classifieds.

I really wish you hadn't done that!!!! :bash: :bash:
.204 uses the same mags, correct?
-
Same bolt too? Say it isn't so. You may have just got me in trouble. Got an extra room for me to stay for a week or three?

Let me know maybe I can get some vacation and we could shoot some dogs. :chuckle:
Yep, Actually all you would really need to do is replace the barrel and a new bolt face on a .223. But it's usually better to just get a complete upper. The reason for a new bolt face is just so the new barrel and bolt face lugs mates up, You can use the existing bolt face but the wear pattern wouldn't match.
-
Picked up a CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar about a month ago. It's a shooter. Been shooting 32gr v-max but have some 40gr v-max loads ready for the range.
The 40's show about the same trajectory as the 32's on the ballistics calculator.

Damn you!! Well since it looks like I'll be starting work early this year I'll probably hold off. Can't believe the fun is almost over. Maybe next year. $450.00 is easier to swallow than $700.00 + though.
-
i have shot them and all the ones i shot realy likes the 40g vmax.
-
i've got a cz527 varmint with the walnut stock. Shoots the 32 gr vmax great but i've got four different handloads ready to go so if the weather holds up this saturday i'm going shooting. Get to try out the new 243 also! i can't wait.

Man why did you have to go and post that??? Now I'm gonna have to obsess about it until I get it.....
-
Ya...that's got me thinking also. Just don't know if I gain enough from a 223 to justify the cost.
-
My rationale is that my .223 is a 16" M-4 profile rifle that I use for varmint shooting. Whereas this would be a varmint rifle.
-
16" is just too LOUD!!! I'm half deaf from my days in the service. Those things rattle your teeth. 16" isn't exactly ideal IMO for varmint's your giving up too much speed. Just my opinion, it'll do the trick but I'd want a longer barrel myself.
-
You guys are on the right path, (giving me reasons why I should buy a new toy) but my current AR is a Bushmaster varmiter with the 24" barrel.
-
I just bought a 243 but i think i might have to save up and get the 204 upper. that is unless the gov. isn't going to take my guns away.

But if I had to buy one before a ban, I'd rather have the 16" :dunno:

Shootin a Remington 700 in .204, 3 lbs trigger with bi-pod and a Bushnell 3200 Elite Tac 10x40.
Its a killer! Couldn't be happier with it!
-
I shoot a Savage Model 12. Mine likes the 32 grain vmax in its 26" bull barrel with a 1/12 twist. 32's were about twice as accurate as the 40's. .25moa vs .5. for (4) 5 -shot groups when I tested factory ammo.
The only thing I would trade it for is a Tac 20. I need to shoot it more to justify that swap out though.
-
Tlbradford Have you tryed federal 39Gr blitz kings? In my 204 the 39Gr BK shoot better then then 40Gr vax.But i get the best groups with 32Gr vmax. So if you want to shoot heavier bullets sometime i recomend trying 39Gr BK.
-
I have 2 Savage 204s and they will both shoot 3 shots under a dime at 100 yards with the 39 grain Sierra Blitzkings. They have a better BC than the 32 grain bullets and have less wind drift as a result. It will out perform the 223, yes I have one of those too. I can shoot sage rats at 350 yards so far, hope to extend that this year.
-
My son and I shoot a single shot 204 with a fluted 24" bull barrel. Very very accurate I have to say

I did try the BK's and they grouped very well. I did not like there performance on coyotes which is my main target these days. At close range I would have huge holes out the back of the coyote. The 32 Vmax seems to open up a little faster at close range.
-
TL how did the BK's peform on the your longer shots on the yotes?
-
I have a Remmy R15 in 204. It loves the 32's of many stripes, but doesn't not love the 40g V-max. I might do some load testing with other 40ish pills this summer... or I might sell or trade it. (I do very little dry side hunting, and it's not much of a brush/timber caliber.)
(Anyone interested in buy or trade?)
Fun to shoot, and I'd love it if I lived in the sage or crp, but I live in the evergreens!
-
They did great at 150+.
-
Don't shot a 204 but go through alot of 204 Brass. I have three wildcats built on the 204 case a 22-204, 6mm-204 and a 25-204.
If you don't reload and want to sell your once fired brass I'll buy it, looking for a couple of hundred rounds, PM me.
