im curious about the accuacy. i've read that they dont group all that well. i'd like to get one for coyote but i would like to reach out to 200 yrds some what accuratly. ultimatly id like an AR but my budget cant afford it. walmart has one for $600. id like to hear how accurate your mini's are.

Nope I have shot a lot of mini's and only found one that put together decent groups. If you are looking to spend $600 on a mini you can pick up an Oly Arms standered for about $650. It will be much more accurate and you can upgrade parts from there.

I have one and it seems to shoot good enough at that distance. If you don't do rapid fire through it to often it should have some accuracy. I used mine for yotes for a long time, until I picked up an AR. I would save up and pick up an AR with a bull barrel. A few more bucks, but if you hang onto it for a while it doesn't amount to much and you have all the various calibers available.
-
Does it matter how accurate it is, it has a 50 round clip. :chuckle: :chuckle: I just lead the lead fly with mine. Fun gun for sure. 200 yards it will group just fine for yotes.
-
It's so so. I have an older mini 14 ranch rifle. I've heard the newer ones have better barrels then the older ones did. They are fun to shoot though :)
I'm actually going to the range tomorrow with the mini. If I remember I'll take a picture of my grouping.
-
By the way 600 is a good deal though.
They are on sale at Cabelas. I think it was 700 maybe 650.
Saw one at Big5 the other day for 800.
-
Wally World sells them in the $600 range as well. They have the bulk packs of ammo as well.
-
The mini is a typical Ruger, rugged, reliable and somewhat questionable accuracy. An American AK.

well put the ones i shot were nothing great on accuracy decent at close ranges 100 less 200 yards and beyond don't count your chickens from what i have seen.
-
i bought one a year and a half ago. it was the ranch synthetic stock and shot very decent. at 200 yards i held about 3 inch groups. the older ones are definitely not nearly as accurate.
-
Buy a bolt gun............ better yet, buy two bolt guns.
-
mine was just like the others....a 3" gun at best. only praise it gets from me is that it fired every single round I ever fed it.
-
Mine was a Chinese forgery.............bought three of em. They are trash.
*censored*.
-
mini's are like 10/22's...there's a ton of upgrades and stuff you can do to them for fun, but if you want a rifle that shoots bug holes, i'd steer away from them too. they're a ton of fun and will never fail you.
the forums at www.perfectunion.com has a lot of info on trick stuff you can do to them.

Why do you buy 3 of everything before you know if you like them?

you can buy a couple savages or the like for $600.00. definitely something to think hard about.
-
I have only sold two guns in my life... A 22 rimfire and a mini-14... Man I wish I had the 22 back... The mini could not consistently hit a paper plate at 100yds with any brand of ammo. :bdid: :twocents:
-
Skip the Mini 14 idea, I had one around 10 years ago it was a sweet handling little rifle but I couldn't hit crap with it I sold it to my dad and he sold it to someone else they are not known for accuracy. If you want a auto that will shoot good groups in 223 cal buy a DPMS otherwise just buy a nice bolt action rifle and save yourself some grief. I agree with Crabs, my mini had a hard time finding paper at 100yards I shot 3 or 4 diffrent types of factory ammo and I had a Nikon Monarch scope on it I was very disappointed with its accuracy. The new Mini's have heavy bull barrels maybe they are better I don't know.
-
and if you don't already know....they are beyond loud
-
i heard the newer ones are a bit more acccurate. i got an older one, think 8 or 9 years old by now, ive found that any much past 75 yards id better pray hard to hit it. fun as all get out to shoot just, great shtf gun, but i wouldnt take it hunting unless i was in heavy heavy timber where a long shot is 50 yards.
take that 600 and buy a savage or a tikka, money well spent there

those are the min-14 target models...not a standard mini.
just something to remember.

:yeah:
The standard barrels are different then they use to be though...but like Jack said not all are bull barrels

i can't get on the perfect union forum here at work but there's a guy on there that sells a barrell stabilizer thing that is supposed to be a big improvement.
-
again, with 50 rounds who needs accuracy :chuckle: :chuckle: :mgun: man I have shot a few dogs without aiming, just watch the dirt/snow fly till you connect. :chuckle:
-
I think MR T and the A team made those things popular..

100 rounds and you can actually hit something with the AR ;)

I have a similar experience with mine. I bought a Stainless Ranch version in the late 80's. I'm lucky to connect consistently with a paper plate at 100 yds, even with reloads or any ammo for that matter. But of course, then you have the "Spray and Pray" option. It's a hoot to blast away with it though. Barrel heating is god awful also. I still have it as I have separation issues when it comes to my guns. I have killed several mule deer and antelope with it, but they were all either really close or took some jackhammering to bring down.

they're ulta accurate when shooting blanks.

i just remembered that barrel stabilizer thing is called an accu-strut.

The things wern't built for hunting they were built as a cheap security rifle and/or prison guard type rifle. For that they are great.

I've got one that works fine for coyote's at limited range 150 - 200 yards but the issue is mine you have to let the action slam shut to get it to lock and it makes a hell of a racket. I would also vote for a bolt rifle.
