If you apply in a bunch of different states its worth it.. probably not for just one or two though.

Yeah, if you apply for alot of out of state hunts, there hunting app service they provide is very good.
The editorials and product reviews, some are good, some are just OK.
There's some very interesting reader articles.
For $100, sure, why not. That's what i did in 2007. I did not re-new.

Not to hijack, but if a person is thinking about applying in at least 1, possibly 2, maybe 3, and probably not 4 of the following; Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado; and has never hunted out of state before, is it worth it?
Do they provide good info on how to get started with locating an area to hunt with reasonable chance of success?

I think they do. Also, you can always just pic up the phone and call them right away.
Let me be the first to say that if you decide to sign up send me a PM so I you can use me as a referral. They send out free DVD's and two raffle tickets for every referral you provide and it doesn't cost you any extra. I'll even send you the DVD for free in the mail (after I watch it)!
...seriously, let me know if you sign up. :)

Definatey worth it if you are planning on hunting or starting to hunt out of state. :twocents: They'll give you a Browning 2 piece knife set also now valued at $99 if you sign up. :)

I have been a member since 2005. It is the only magazine that I look forward too every month. For the guy that wants to hunt out of state it is full of information. You may want to subscribe to it right away, because from January - June they cover all of the western states.

I have been a member for several years now. If you plan on putting in for several different states it is the way to go. Lots of great information. Have talked to Jason several times and it has always been very beneficial. :twocents:

Great magazine. I have it but a friend of mine also has it. He drew a Utah deer tag last year and they put him in touch with some guys that had hunted the unit that he drew and he talked to them. He shot a 30 1/2 inch buck (didn't score real well because of some funky points but still a huge buck) the first day using the info that he got by talking to these guys. His experience is the main reason that I started getting it this year.

Shane, you might want to PM me the details cuz it is looking like I am going to pull the trigger.

I voted no. I am a subscriber and it provides us lots of usefull info when we are putting in for other states, but its just like any other magazine. I'd say half of the issues are usefull and the rest are full of hunting stories with too many adds and fake looking air brushed pictures. And seriously, is there really that many people that just happen to be wearing a Huntin Fool hat when they shoot their trophy? :bs:

HF is a great publication. If you use it in conjunction with other resources, you can really get some good info and get on big animals. I spoke with Jason and got "contact lists" for each of my draw tags this past year. Jason got out his maps and gave me some spots to check out on one hunt. I parked in that area, walked 500 yards, and was looking at a 190" plus mule deer at 120 yards - good info! I spoke to several HF members about my other tag and ended up walking into a great basin that was recommended and was full of bucks - took a really cool cheater buck on that hunt. Without that service, this would not have happened.
The magazine itself has pretty general info on good units across the western states. It also seems to be a couple years behind the units that are really producing. Once they are listed in the top "5" in HF, they get hunted harder and harder to draw.
