Took the foxpro scorpian out for the maiden trial today and called in a bobcat on the first set. My son ended up shooting it at about 40 yards with his 300 short mag. We only have one good varmint rifle in the house and it was in my hands at the time. I was about 10 yards away and looking in the other direction when he shot. Man, what a blast. We made a second set with no luck. I think that I'm hooked. Gonna have to get a spotlight and try the nighttime calling this week. I'll get pictures as soon as I can get them off of my son's phone. -
Thats awesome bear! VERY jealous!

Awesome cat!!! What sounds did you use? My son and I have called in a couple (that we know of), but don't really know what sounds they responded to. We've actually called in more cougar this year than bobcat!
-
Awesome! I am also curious on what sound you used.
-
I actually used a variety of cottontail distress calls, a woodpecker distress, and even mixed some gathering crows sounds. I guess I threw the kitchen sink at them. Bear

You done ruined yourself for life! Great first outing with that foxpro.
With the foxpro stories like this I just may have to save up and buy one one of these days. I spent a lot of sets first starting out learning to blow the call before I got success.
My first attempt at electronic calling was recording a tape of me calling on a old GE tape recorder and setting it out away from me after pushing play :P . I got high tec when I got me some speaker wire and ran a speaker off it so I could turn it off and on.
It sounds like these machines have come along ways since those days.

Congrats, instead of the 300 mag, you might consider a 12 ga. Much better anyways to have one guy with a varmit rifle and one with a shotgun. Much easier on the hides too. :)
-
He left the 12 gauge in the truck. I was wondering how it'd do with buckshot. The problem is it was a big clearcut, so he wanted something with some reach. :dunno:

Thats a real good looking cat. I like the color of the westside cats. How long did it take for it to come in?
