I walked within 5 feet of this antler last year  TWICE.  It must have been covered in snow.

I'm new here, but am BIG TIME (not like Jimmy) into shed hunting. I found my first shed of the year on Tuesday, a nice 4 pt blacktail (from last year). Last year I found A LOT of Deer and elk antlers, quite a few matched sets and have 4 of the elk antlers (2 of the sets) in the record books (and mounted on plaques of course). The biggest advantage I have for finding soooo many sheds here on the wetside, is a great dog that is trained for shed hunting (as well as birds, dock dog stuff and obedience). Average finds of my dog vs me? I find 1, she finds 6. I had no idea how many I was missing before her! She is a featured dog that Cabin Creek Kennels uses and shares her accomplishments at sportsmans shows in OR and CA. She is on websites, had articles about her, and will be at the Sportsmans show in Puyallup today (Friday) for Inverness Kennels. She has been written about by the Oregon Shed Hunters and many more.

That is just awesome that your dog is trained that way.  How much to rent her for a week?   :P  Welcome..

My two blacktail sheds thus far.  Both lefts.  Went out last night for a couple hours with my 15W halogen mountain bike light to get some exercise and try something new.  I didn't find any but it was a great night hike nontheless.  Jumped three deer near my driveway when I returned.

That was the sole purpose for last night's hike.  Been slammed with work and the spring green-up is already underway so I need to spend as many hours aas possible in boots!  I NEED those bones!  And last year's for that matter  :bash:

Another good weekend finding bones.  A set of fresh browns from a muley and one fresh moose (that the coyotes had removed from the brush for me).  Also two white muley antlers and two white whitetail antlers.

I was in about a mile and it was on a trail with dog tracks so maybe someone used it for a walking stick  :dunno: I ve found some weird stuff in the woods but that one made me chuckle . Seems i would use a  3 iron or a 5 wood for a walker though  :chuckle:

Got 7 this weekend in Ferry County.  Man, it was sloppy!  2 mulie (one of which I have already made into candle holder for the wife) and 5 whities including both sides of the buck that I posted pics of that was eating our horse hay up in the hills.  Also found a cougar/wolf kill of a a buck (I think) that I have been after for several years.  I'll post some pics later today of the antlers and skull.

My wife had my buddy turn this one into a candle holder while the daughter and I were out looking for more sheds.

Swing and a miss for me again today :bash:
Spent two hours out where I deer hunt in the fall.  Saw 26 deer and lots of tracks and poop, but no sheds.
Did see one 3x3 muley.  He spotted me and trotted off, both antlers still firmly attached. :(

Found another carcass from this winter that someone had cut the skull cap only off of.  Didn't take a pic but I am sure someone shot it over the winter sometime and just took the rack.  Big hooves on it!

Sad to hear Lowe.  I used to see A LOT of that down here, but they closed some of the country off, so maybe that will help.

I was up there Sunday.  I got up at 2 on Sunday and drove up for the day.  MISERABLE DAY! weatherwise.   Felt pretty much like a drwoned rat that had been flushed by the time I was done.  THen I had today off which was supposed to be beautiful and was planning to hit it again, but I tore my calf last night playing basketball.  Couldn't hardly walk so figured I'd stay home and be depressed.

Great sheds, all.. I've spent the last 5 days out and about, and managed to find FOUR sets! ... all still attached to their current owners. Six little guys all had one side.. but all the big boys were still packing. I would have thought it would be the other way around.. with those bigger horns having more gravitational pull. Total critter count: Deer: 150+. Coyotes: 7. Chuckar: 10. Sheds: two white partials.

Anyone else seeing deer with headgear? I'm shocked at how many are still carrying around here.

Also, anyone run into a pair in Safeway in Chelan and chat for a while? Ran into a fellow that says he has 180 already this season. Figured such a dedicated shed hunter may be on this site. :)

Happy hunting,
-Kari

Yeah, its a different year up here. Lots more area to search. I definitely know where the deer are hanging out, and haven't been moving them... but as for sheds on the ground I haven't been very lucky; the fellow I ran into in Safeway said he found the sheds of the big 5 point I'd been watching.. or at least plucked them out of the area I'd seen him last... so I know there ARE sheds out there to be found, I'm just not the one finding them. :)

These are the only two we've found that I'm excited about this year (both white). The two pt. was found by my boyfriend.. he found another smaller one, and so did my mother.

Nope - nada.  I've been at a LOT too, even at night with my 15W halogen mountain bike lights.  I'm checking all the "no, they wouldn't be in there" spots now, but then again, it's big country and they could literally be anywhere.  But given where I've found three of his sheds, I tend to think they drop them in the same vicinity annually.  Last year was severe weather; this year very mild so who knows?  :dunno:

Here's are pics of the other stuff I've found.  The elk shed was VERY chewed, right down the main beam on his tops.

My mother and I went out today... beautiful day here for the most part. Saw a lot of deer... none with headgear still attached, but no luck still at finding the browns. We did find 3 whites though! Heard some coyotes howling but we were on property that the owner likes the coyotes so we weren't hunting... but thought it would be fun to take some photos. Howled on the cottontail call and was shocked at the result: FIVE dogs! ...two of those being domestic. We were a long ways away from houses... its unfortunate those critters are allowed to roam 2+ miles away from home. While we were watching a lab mix and husky mix work their way across the draw we almost missed the three coyotes we had also attracted. We waited for the dogs to move on past (they walked 20 yards or less by us without noticing) and called again. Got the yotes to within 60 yards, stood up and clicked some photos. Great day in the field overall.

Took my dog out today... covered a LOT of country... seen atleast 6 bucks that had shed in the canyon I worked with her and I only found 2 old sheds... one is the three point with eye guards and also found a spindley 4 pt.  Both were 2-3 years old.

I spotted both sheds and then go Kaci within 15-20 yards and she found both and brought them to me!   Pretty happy with that...

Hit two nasty blacktail thickets recently and come up with about a dozen beds, three live deer and ZERO sheds.  One probable buck stayed bedded until I was within about 8 yards.  I was on my hands and knees due to the tangled brush and never saw him until he stood and slipped out.  I could see his dark tarsal glands as he left so I'm sure it was a buck.  I was sure I'd come out with a nice match set from this area.  :bash:

last weekend, my dad and I went shed hunting. I found a 4 point white tail and a 1x1 (spike) skull, we took a picture or two, but we did'nt take it. I don't know if the skull counts in the contest or not... :dunno:

I'm up to 41 whitetail sheds here around Moscow, ID. . . Only a handful are from this year.  I think I'm at 4 or 5 sets, the rest singles.  In prime elk and moose country too, thought for sure I'd have found some of them by now.  I'm thinking they're dropping in the reprod.

I have found 11 elk and 3 deadhead blacktails. All the elk were westside. 4 were brown and 3 of the 4 were over 145 inches. Largest bulls on this side dropped around March 1.

My group is up to 53 we've kept.. and we've left a few partials, spikes, severly degraded, and still attached out in the woods to make our total around 60. I'll get the real count up soon when I've filtered through the photos. Great last few days, though! We found 5 yesterday, 12 the day prior, and 1 three days ago. Pictures to soon follow!

It is a lab and australian shephard mix. I have been watching him since I have got him and he is constantly searching with his nose and he is following scents all over the parks I go to. So I thought I would give him a specific scent to follow and that would get me out hiking and scouting.

The pictures are GREAT! Thanks for sharing the photos!

Being new to the state (again) what's the law on sheds here? It looks like you can pick them up & take them home (unless otherwise posted) but whats the law on selling them? and what type of land are you restricted from taking them?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not in the competition but we found three sheds on saturday out near Goldendale. It was a great day for a walk and one of those two coyotes we called out of the trees got a smacking.
