I have been giving some thought to making changes to the current photo gallery system. The AEVEA Media Gallery Feature seems to be the best solution which merges with our Forum. Demo here http://media.noisen.com/
Aside from their layout and colors I think these features will be a better change since it integrates directly with the forum.

What I can do is convert our entire Gallery into this New AEVA Media Gallery system since they provide that feature if I decide to make the change. I put the poll up above to see what people really think.
Another great feautre this addition has is to automatically embed videos from youtube, google or dozens of other sites... directly into your post. Without having to use BBC code.

Either one works for me as I don't use the old one, HOWEVER, the new one looks to be better, and I think the folks that do utilize the alblums would ultimately like it better.
-
It will take some getting used to but looks like a little better to me.

A couple of cool features -
* Supports Images, Audio and Video files, and embedding videos from Youtube, Dailymotion etc.
* Track which items you haven't viewed yet (similar to SMF's Unread Posts)
* Powerful permission and security features, including password protection
* Per-album permissions
-
Honestly, I never figured out how to set up an album with the current system (even with instructions) so I never bothered after a couple failed attempts. Seems very cumbersome and not intuitive. I think the AEVEA solution looks like a better way to go.
-
looks good. I say go for it.
-
I like the new one....
-
Ray, you know more about tech systems etc. than all of us combined, so that being said you do what is better. If new is better and apparently easier for the general population DO it.
-
For instance, on Michaels site I pointed out to him that I have two different files in my profile, one for pictures and one for emoticons. One of the issues I have with this new gallery system is that even though I have locked my emoticon album from viewers, the emoticon images pop up in the "Random Photo"
Sounds like a custom mySQL Query could fix that.

These features alone make it worth while in my opinion. Do you have any concerns?
I guess one concern I would have is a point Rob brought up. If someone had a password protected gallery, it would still need to be policed to make sure it wasn't storing inappropriate material. I would worry someone loading up a 1000 images or movies in a password protected gallery, and then all of a sudden make it available to everyone? Maybe that is easily addressed.

I don't have any concerns about if it will work. The guy who created this feature set is extremely supportive to fixes and problems.
Some of these features currently exist but people do not find them easy to discover or intuitive enough. Many of them require a different set of permissions outside of the forum. That's where people get lost.

Ray, I like the look and feel of the EAVEA option you linked to.
My vote is for whichever option imposes the least hardship (time, money, knucklheads requesting assistance...) on Ray.
I voted for the EAVEA...

I installed it and am testing it out http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?action=media (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?action=media)

I just tried to upload and received "The file has a invalid extension (jpg) "
-
It's because it's not allowed. I don't really want people uploading anyway. I might delete everything in thee.

Then click on the X in the lower right to view FULL SIZE

I like that
-
I like it as well. Just currious, why is having a photo gallery not allowed? I think I missed something somewhere.
-
I think you are confused. I don't want people uploading in the test gallery unless we plan on keeping it.
Never have I said people cannot have a gallery. That is already allowed. I have no idea why you said that.
-
Oh damn, I just totally missed the entire first page of this thread. Nevermind. :bash:
-
That is to cool!
-
Outstanding Ray, I love how that works.
-
Ray,
I really like the new one. I think it will really add to the site, and to seeing the pictures posted on here. If it is easier, and less headache for you, then go for it.
-
i like it ray

Just discovered the all important Mass upload feature. That will even tell you if your file size is too big.

I was able to get the albums converted last night from the old system to the new. I just need time to reset permissions so that users can upload into the public galleries.

User albums begin on page three: http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?action=media;sa=vua;start=30 (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?action=media;sa=vua;start=30)
You can access your own gallery on your profile (if you have one) --> Media Summary
