I know this is going to make me look like an idiot but is this a deer rub or what? I was walking around the edge of my property and noticed this and two others like it in the small alders and they were all kinda in a row... it just looks kinda wierd to me like claw marks or something... :dunno:
-
My vote is no. Have you looked for tracks in the area????? Mark
-
Ya theres tracks kinda all around the area and theres deer that come through every now and then ( shot a doe like 75 yards from there with my bow) but i havent seen anything in the way of bucks in a couple years and it just looked funny to me
-
Almost looks like elk to me. How far from top to bottom?
-
Not a deer rub for sure. Most likely a bear, but why one would do such a gratuitous scratching I don't know. Usually they're much more serious about it than that.
-
I'd guess its a younger bear from the height at which its at
-
Looks like bear to me. Have never seen a deer rub like this and have seen 100's of rubs
-
thats what i was thinking kinda too... ive seen lots of deer and elk rubs but none really like this... it was only like four feet off the ground though and like maybe 18 inches top to bottom
-
Sure looks like claws to me. My vote is a beer as weel.
-
I'd say bear too.... Got any game cams to set up??? Would let you know a lot of what goes when in bed and gone....
-
I'd have to agree that its probably some bear scratches or possibly cougar. I have seen scratches like that in an area where I've seen several bear and a cougar. I dont know enough about cougars so its hard to say its from one.

eye guards from elk or a big deer, not bear or cat
-
Deer or elk. The marks seem to be too random in spacing to be cat or bear unless it only has one or two claws. :chuckle:
-
I see alot of those in my front yard, it's usually from the smaller bulls, the bigger bulls tear the trees up.
-
I agree, not a bear.
-
I do not think it is a Bear either. Elk or Deer.
-
unless your thinking of a one clawed cat its defiantly a little bull poking around or a nice buck that got a little bored. :twocents: :twocents:

-Looks like Elk to me! I see rubs just like that all the time in my area's. Set up a t-cam and see whats coming in and let us know ;)
-
Ya i just got one so im pretty excited now to see if i cant get a few pics near it :)
-
i think its a deer rub, ive seen the same thing on our cottonwoods and there are no bears around im pretty sure its just a spike or small two point buck trying to big-boy a bigger tree
-
Three toed sloth........chucalabra, me trying to add some color to some antlers or a deer or elk.
-
It's definitely a deer or an elk. It looks "elky" to me. Spend about 15 or 20 minutes and you will find hair, then you will know for sure. I've always been able to find at least one hair, even if it was just a tip rub, like this one appears to be. It may be on the ground, but there is one or two hairs there somewhere.
If I recall; Sasquatch hairs are the longest, Chupacabra hair is really short in the Pacific Northwest. Both of them will have light green tint to the hairs. I know nothing about three toed sloth(s), but I think their hair has a darker green tint to it. Also, one must realize that a foot hair may have crap on it, as the last three species mentioned like to walk in it and feel it squish up between their toes (hence the greenish tint). The Three-toed Sloth kind of get shortchanged in that respect as he only has the two squish opening on each foot, that's why they walk so slow...they can enjoy it longer.

found one a while back, after intense scrutinizing, and pain staking efforts, found out it was some Peta chicks nose and tongue ring rubs, and some pit hair..It had to be an intense tree hugging moment.Found some scrapes in the dirt, long ones..Back tracked them and found it to buttocks drag marks,at the beginning of the drag marks was some sort of fecal matter, later tested as having a large percentage of tofu and brownies...

Thats quite possible as a few seem to have infiltrated the area.... :chuckle:
