Hi guys,
I have owned a number of dogs in the past (a Pure-bred German Shepherd, and 3 poodles) and do a pretty good job at training them. However, some while ago I came across a recommendation for an Airedale Terrier as a good Hunting/Guard/House/Kids dog. After doing a lot of reading, we settled on getting one and as of yesterday, we are proud owners of a 9-week-old "Hunter". His daddy was pushing 80lbs (oversize), mom was about 50lbs and comes from hunting lines.
I have read a lot of people stating that Airedale training is different than other dogs. They get bored easily, they need to be introduced to water properly, etc. I want this guy to be my bird-hunting buddy - both upland and waterfowl; hopefully by next season.
I have been browsing Amazon and B&N for books on the subject and wanted to know if there are other Airedale owners, or other dog hunters that could recommend a book or two.
Thanks in advance!

I have not read it but i hear "Water Dog" is one of the best training books.
How about some pic of that pup....

From other reading that I have done, I found that "Gun Dog" and "Water Dog" by the same author are the way to go.
I bought both books. They are pretty dated - for instance, the author talks about buying a pup for $15 as a usual thing... However, the training methods seem solid and the book is easy to follow.

"HUP" by Jim Spencer is a great book for training a flushing dog for all around upland and water work. I even use his methods for teaching retrieving to my GWP.
