I find THE HORN, the one, and its always at least three years old and chewed. 9 times out of ten I have walked within 100 yards of it, or I was going to shed hunt that hill but didn't for some reason. ONE OF THESE days I will find THE HORN. FRESH!
Here is this years version.

It's not just you so don't feel too bad. My buddy found a HUGE and I mean HUGE 6 pt. whitetail shed that was at least 4 or 5 years layin. Big, Big mass and long tines. I walked by that thing 4 or 5 times over the years within 20 ft. and never saw it. It was busted in half by the time it was found. :'(

Here is another one I had posted a year or two ago. SAME HILL. :bash:

Heres the one I found today. I've walked within feet of this thing and didn't see it while hunting. Don't know how I missed it.
-
I walked by this one probably 20 times, was within 10 feet of it one of the times, only to let my smelly little brother find it when we were deer hunting. 83" horn or so from what I remember, low 80's anyway.
-
I have NEVER found a fresh antler, found my first deer that wasn't chewed to crap this year, and of course left it on top of the fridge at the cabin we were staying at. :bash:
-
Well, that's why they call it shed huntin, you find some and others you don't find. Its good to see I am not the only one who misses some. Gotta walk more. :chuckle:

Bone i know the feeling, Sat. my 9 yr. old Grandson and I were hunting an area I was in 3 times last year and 2 more during deer hunting, found a few but sat, Ty said look papa and he found one 4pnt. I had walked over the place 1/2 dozen times. It was chewed a little and white but was sure proud of him. Those kinds of trips make you healthier, wiser, look harder. :) :)
Those would've been bigguns the first year. 7mmfan that was a nice find, must have had a great rack before dropping them. :) :) :)
-
Deep Forks I agree. i'd have liked to seen him before he dropped, I bet he was a stud. I spent the next hour scouring that hillside for the match. Found 2 other sheds but not that one :(

A couple of years ago I had PathfinderJR elk hunting with me. I was fussing at him (he was 7 at the time) for walking along and looking at his feet instead of looking for elk. I stopped to glass a draw and JR let out a yell that about made me lose my bladder. He was pointing down at my feet, his eyes as big as dinner plates. If I would have taken one more step, I literally would have tripped over it and fell down the mountain. It was his first shed... he lugged that thing about a mile and a half back to camp. I thought his arms were gonna fall off.. :chuckle:
-
Thats great, i'm hoping to get my nephew over here this spring to do some shed hunting. He's going on 9 and went deer and elk hunting with us last year and loves it. Hopefully we can scrape up enough to keep him interested in it.
-
Maybe you should "make sure" he finds one when he's young... doesn't have to be anything special, maybe an old white you've got at the bottom of your pile...

Want to know the funny thing Path. I left those bones on the hill just for that. I had no use for them, but someone else might find them and rejoice. I brought the brown home of course. Might be a pipe dream, but I thought maybe someone might be damn excited to stumble upon them. Course that might backfire on me. I used to be under the thought process of leave no sheds behind so folks would lose interest. :chuckle:

I helped my at-the-time five year old find her first on the Oregon coast. Same day I found my biggest Rosie shed. Great memories. I sent photo into the Oregonian newspaper and they ran it. She still takes her shed to show-n-tell. Some day I'll let her know I helped her out (it even hints at it in the newspaper clipping) but for now I'll leave well enough alone.

i decided to take my wife out for a nice spring hike a few years ago, as we were drivin up the road i spotted a heavy dark 4 point shed right off the road. so i thought this is just as good as spot as any i told her we should look for the other side, she got about 50 yards off the road and said hey heres 2 old horns! i about fell over!! haha she had never found a shed in her life nor ever been out to look for them and found a 4 point set right outta the gate! I have found alot of sheds and alot of bigger fresher sets but i think that was my alltime fav! seems i hear about it every spring if i have a day i dont find any shes allways there to reasure me that its not that hard to find a set!!
