I think it's a neat little cartridge. I probably won't get one anytime soon, but in the future I would consider the 338 Federal in a lever action rifle, if it is available (I'm thinking the Browning BLR.)  I always tend to go with heavier bullets, and with this cartridge I would go with 210's or 225's to take advantage of the 338 caliber. Otherwise, if you're going to use 180 or lighther bullets, you might as well be using the 308 Winchester, in my opinion. Here's an article with some good info:
