I was looking at it again and I noticed there was fishing line in the ears. You can see it just below my thumb in the pictures. Then I also noticed some clay looking stuff at the top inside of the ears. THE *censored* SCREWED THE EARS TO MY ANTLERS! :bash: I got ahold of my fathers lawyer and had him send Jess Carr a letter telling him I was not happy with my mount and I would be going to the courthouse and going after him for everything he messed up on my deer mount and Elk european mount. Well today I got 2 checks in the mail from Jess Carr. They were post dated checks one for the 19th of feb. and the other for March 5th. He sent me back All $820.00 I gave him to mount my animals. I sure am pissed over what kind of work he did. We will see if the checks clear. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( Look at all the pictures. Dont ever use JESS CARR of STRAIGHT ARROW TAXIDERMY. He lives in north bend. >:( >:(

OK. The ears were bad, the nose and mouth were bad, but (and maybe this is just my pet peeve) the eyes did it for me. Dude should NOT be in business...
-
I won't lie, those pictures are hard to look at. I think I could do a better job and I have no clue what I am doing.
Hope those checks clear. If they do I would contact one of our member taxi's and see if they can redo the mounts for you with a new cape. I can't believe this guy was taking money for this kind of work.

yeah not great work!
-
The eyes did it for me. That's bad.
-
I feel so bad for you man, that is a nice buck for it to look like that.
-
Yeah, when (if) those checks clear, go take your buck to someone who knows what they are doing and have it redone.
-
Wow Huntergreg, sorry you had such a bad experience. About 10 years before I started doing taxidermy I had an antelope done buy a taxi in Lynnwood. I thought it was awesome when I got it back. Fast forward 10 years and the day I got back from taxidermy school I took one look at it and retired it to the closet. It looked horrible.
Anyway, if you choose to have it re-done let me know. You're only about 45 min. from me and I'll cut you a deal since from the sounds of it you've been thru hell. At least it looks like your buck has.

Greg,
Hope those checks clear for you, that is just bad juju all the way around. I know alot of you guys are talking about the eyes and the nose and the lips and yes I agree to all, I think the thing that sets me off the deepend is the idiot screwed the ears to the horns.
Hope it all works out well for you..

SERIOUSELY!! HE SCREWED THE EARS TO THE HORNS!!!! AND YES I AM YELLING IN DISBELIEF :yike:
-
My question is, had you looked at his work before?
-
That's the worst mount I've ever seen from someone that call's themselves a professional taxi., keep your fingers crossed those checks clear.
-

Hey guys (Bucklucky, BLKBRKLR, Elkstuffer), why would he have done that? Couldn't get the ear bases set right? :dunno:
-
The mount looks like an old mount that was done about 60 years ago and has drooped over the years. I have to admit that the ears are really sad looking. I know a taxi in Enumclaw that does real good work. I used to work with the guy. He has down 8 shoulder mounts for me.

My Granddad's mount from the 40s looks better than that.

I can only assume that he didn't get the ear butts secured to the form before the clay had dried or he knocked them loose after the fact.
He has absolutly no business charging people for that kind of work. Rediculous.

I honestly have no fricken idea, only thing I can think of is he did not know how to properly set the ears, and instead of letting them droop down he attempted to fix them to the ears to make them stay in position.
-
Wow! Terrible work.
Did you happen to look at any of his work before you paid him a dime and dropped off your capes to be mounted? Did you ask if he's got an apprentice working for him? Did you check where he said he learned Taxidermy?
I ask these questions not to put any blame on you, but to point out to others that read this thread that if you're using a different taxidermists services some day.. You should ask these questions.
Bucklucky, is this guy a registered taxi that would have been a member of that NW Taxidermy association I remember someone mentioning?

If I had to guess, I'd say he studied at WWU's Entomology Dept... 'cause that deer mount is one bug-eyed b!tch.. :chuckle:
-
WOW, screwing the ears to the antlers? That is a first. Of all the remounts I have done I have never seen that.
That mount just makes me sick. My first deer looked 10X better than that. I still have it hanging where no one can see it. NO, I don't plan on taking any pictures of it. :chuckle:
In order to do taxidermy as a business and collect money you have to have a Taxidermy License from the WDFW and you have to have a Business License. Anyone can get either of these. Joe blow off the street that has never even see a mount can get one.
The only reason I can see for him to screw the ears to the horns was because he didn't have the proper amount of clay in the ear butts. On mule deer, especially the ones with really really big ears you can run a wire down through the ear to help support it until it dries. Than the wires are removed.

Remember to wait at least 14 days so you know if the checks clear. I am sure that time can't come fast enough for you. If they don't clear then you can contact the law enforcemnt about writing bad checks and post dated checks.
-
Those eyes make it look like it was scared, kinda like :yike:
-
That's what I would have looked like when I picked him up from the taxi... :yike:
-
Once those checks clear and you have your money back take your mount to one of our taxi's on here. They do great work. If they do crappy work they know you'll post it on here. :chuckle: Just kidding. Seriously though, the taxi's on here....michelle, Charlie, kuduman and Blkbearklr just to name a few all do great work from what I have seen. Yes I know I left some out but I just didn't want to take the time to name all of them. So all you other taxi's on this site...please don't take that personal. :)
-
Hey Mich, I'll post a picture of my first mount and post it if you do LMAO!! C'mon Mich, do it, do it!! Mine is terrible.
-
I want to make sure I'm following this...is there actually screws run through the ears and into the horns?
REALLY??

I have also linked to this topic on my site.

Sorry about your experience Greg. I've been using Buzzi Cook of Olympic Taxidermy just outside of North Bend near Edgewick. He hasn't been cheap but his stuff is top notch. I've never heard of this Straight Arrow Taxidermy before, I'll have to ask some of my buddies around town.
-
All of those pictures are rediculous but the one that REALLY caught my attention was of the back of the mount. That picture looks like road kill. I take as much pride in the back of a mount as I do the front. Just because no :(one will see it doesn't mean that it's not there.
-
I dont know, screwing the ears to the horns is a new one to me, maybee I ought to give it a trey :chuckle: Just kidding, please no one take that response seriousely LOL!!

I think if my taxi screwed the ears to the horns I would screw his ears to his head!!! I can't get that pic of the nose out of my head!! :yike: It looks like a close up of a milk cow!!

I feel your pain. My first archery buck mount is horrible @ best. The ears are all crinkled, the neck fur is bunched up and sticks out etc.....) I keep looking @ it thinking to have it redone or just make it into antlers only. My taxi was highly recommended and I saw his work (which was beautifully) before I gave him my buck.

Huntergreg, did those checks clear the bank?
I just saw how well your mount turned out in the other thread...good save!
FYI, I bumped the thread you started last year about this taxidermist...
-
that sucks, you should have checked out my work first,I charge half of what he does..
-
Looks exactly like the expression my neighbors cat had before I ran it over... Excellent work Rasbo!

Nice job Rasbo. I looked like that a couple of times waking up Saturday morning back in my single/drinking days... :bdid:

Rasbo and Iceman. That's some funny chit there. Oh, man, funny. How do you guys think this stuff up?

Small screws, but he was nice enough to use locktite in them, so they were a pain in the arse to get out. Little magic sculpt and you can't even tell ;)
-
i did a bad taxidermy post over on accuratereloading. i still look through and laugh! :chuckle:
-
Too bad about your mount, good to hear you got your money back though, I'm surprised he'd do that!
Next time I'd bite the fuel money bullet and drive it down to Charlie. When you manage to take an animal you deem worthy of mounting and looking at for decades on the wall, you want it to look correct and natural. Not something to skimp on!
