Free with a catch. We're asking you bring a sack of dog/cat food as a donation.(a good sized sack, no 5lb old roy) RHRC is going to distribute food raised to shelters in King, Snohomish and Pierce County or, any others who we might hear are in dire need of food. This is strictly to have a good time and bring in dog food. The shelters donations are down and so we're trying to help out. (some details may change but not much)
March 20, Greenleaf's in Monroe (just south of lewis street bridge)
April 3rd, Greenleaf's in Monroe
We're going to have a minimum 2 live birds for every dog/donation maybe more depending on bird availability. We need pigeons so, you guys who trap pigeons could really help out for the dog shelter food drive. The club is footing the cost of birds and BBQ food for these two training days to help give back to our membership and the community. I'm thinking we'll need to get about 200 total birds for the two weekends. If any of you guys who trap are willing to make a donation of pigeons or cut us a discount from your normal price, all the cost savings will go to the shelter. We were planning on buying $300 of dog food and just giving it away but, we thought this might be more proactive. If we save money on pigeons, we'll use the saved cash to purchase more food to donate. I'm looking into contacting the wholesale dog food suppliers so we can make our $$ go further.
Here's the plan, we're hoping to have a Pro trainer available to help folks with their dogs and field questions. There will be experienced dog people to answer questions about field trialing/hunt testing and general hunting dog stuff. We're going to have a BBQ set up. If you want, bring some cookies or something to share but, don't feel obligated.
We'll have two triples set up, two doubles, a couple singles and puppy area. We're trying to get everyone as much training packed into one day as possible. Our other goal is to teach folks interested in hunt testing how the events work and show them how to put on a test and run equipment/volunteer to help out.
Anyone who would like to help out or ask me questions about it, PM me and I'll respond with my cell phone number.
Thanks again, hope to see all these pups everyones' posting pictures of come out and get a head start on hunting training for 2010! You guys with seasoned gun dogs, come out and show us what you've got!

We had a couple minor changes. Hope some of you guys show up. Here's the official announcment.
RHRC Training Days
&
Potluck Lunches for 2010
When: March 20 and April 3rd. 2010
Where: Greenleaf’s in Monroe
Lunch: Hot Dogs and chili provided. Please bring a side dish
Price: Free
• Pre-registration is not required, please sign in upon arrival and fill out the required release form
• Non-club members are encouraged to attend. This is a club supported fund raiser for animal shelters.
Details:
The training day event is free. We are accepting donations. All money donated will be used to buy dog food for animal shelters in King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties. The suggested donation per dog is $10. Each dog will be given one live shot flier. If birds are plentiful, we will ask for a $5 donation for each bird thereafter.
There will be multiple gun stations set up and tests will be moved for a second series around lunch time and possibly again before day end if time allows. We will not be judging the event. There will be tests for Master level, Senior level, Junior level dogs and puppies.
If you are able, we would encourage you to contribute by throwing birds and/or running a pop and throw station to ensure everyone attending gets in a full, productive training day. If you are unsure of how to operate the equipment, we will gladly show you the ropes.
Since this is a training day, we’re asking that everyone helps each other out so we can all get in a lot of marks and work our dogs as long as needed. We are hoping for participation from everyone attending to make this event the best group training day of the year.
We are looking forward to seeing you and your dogs! We’re going to have a great time!
If you have questions please feel free to call us.

Type of 4-leggers allowed?? Retrievers only? Pointers only? Flushers?
We have a 3.5 month old at the place we are starting her bird career for her breeder/owner. And of course the rest of the pack, minus our now-deaf 12 yo, can always use more exposure. And we whistle-tweeters can always use advice and new ideas.
The pup is BIRDY

But we don't want to crash a party and be the only flushers. The dogs don't care. They assume they are always invited (and guests of honor) at everything.

Other than the puppy area, we'll have gun stations set up in an AKC Hunt Test standard. We are a retriever club. If you're up for marking tests I'd expect we'll have 40-50 yard marks on the junior dogs, 50-60 for Seniors and a mix on the master triple.
Otherwise, its a for a good cause and I'd say everyone is welcome. We just won't be set up to do anything for flushing or pointing work. I wouldn't see any issues with bringing any puppy, get socialization and bird exposure. For the older flusher/pointer it probably won't be worthwhile. I'm expecting to let puppy folks get out a bird, do what you want with it and/or take it home. They'll live fine in cardboard box for quite a while. feed them bread/rice or whatever you have around the house.
There is one person I've spoken with who runs HRC tests and will be coming with a Boykin Spaniel from the Portland Or, area. HRC is similar to the AKC so, I'd expect he won't be surprised by anything we throw at him.

Is it ok to bring my 5 month old black lab pup if I come. I don't want to up set any buddy
-
Nobody will be upset no matter where you are in training with your dog. This is a training day open to all. This isn't a strict, follow the rules event. I promise you'll have a good time. There will be a lot of very experienced dog people there and if one person can't answer a question, they'll be ready to point someone out who can. We're all there to help each other out and have a good time. Nothing formal about this day what-so-ever.

Rocky's Monster gave me a pounding headache just looking at it. I think I could drink a 30-pack of busch ice and feel better afterward than if I drank one of those things....
I'll see what I can do....goin' Cougar huntin' this weekend....I'm the hound....ha!

Yeah, between the two of you.....See you guys Sat!
We've had a really good response and I think we're going to be short on birds. If anyone can get us more pigeons, we'll take whatever you can get!
Thanks- Hap

Thanks to those who showed up! I'd say almost double the expected crowd showed up. We had over 60 dogs in attendance. Things went slow but smoothly.
Good news, we have a good start on buying food for the shelters. We took in close to $700. We're having our April 3rd day and then puting it together to buy and distribute food.
Thanks again, April 3rd, Sat. is the next training day/shelter food fundraiser.

Had a great time on Saturday, but do not know if i will be at the next one.
If i am you can plan on more help from me and the wife. I will drag her out to a blind if i have to.
Rocky loves helping out with the training session, maybe she could get her boyfriend to come out and help also ;)

Lots of guns around, we should be able to keep the boyfriend in line....keep an eye on him from the flier station, should be able to sting him at distance... :chuckle:

My dad and I went on Saturday. We had a good time. It was the first time my dog was able to be around so many people and dogs. He his 8 months and old and did really well.
We're hoping to go to the next one on April 3rd.

I don't think we met you. We did meet a few people though. My dad and I were there for about 4 hours and I ran the dog a couple of times. Maybe we'll see you next time :dunno:

FYI to all;
We raised $1,100 dollars total. I'm working with PetPro's to get a special discount on buying a bunch of food. Currently we've got a supplier, Avoderm, to give us BOGO on cans of cat food. Working to do the same with about $900 of the money for dog food. We're taking it to Pierce, King and Snohomish Animal shelters and one private group in woodinville.
