So I am fairly new to predator hunting. Off and on over last 30 years have hunted predators but nothing serious. This year I got the bug so have been going out ever chance I get. Anyway most guys seem to stay on a set up to 45 min or so it seems. Last couple times I have been out have been lazy I guess about moving and have stayed over and hour and up to 2 hours on a set up. I've had coyote come in both times after an hour has passed. I hunt a pressured area(Capitol State Forest) but i'm wondering if any others stay on a set up this long... I actually had one barking in the trees at me after 20 minutes on stand then he shut up and about an hour later he peeked out of treeline.

As the season progresses I stay longer. I've left my glasses on stands and have had to go back to get them and have seen coyotes sniffing around where the caller had been.

I only stay 15 to 20 min if a coyote has not come by then they are not hearing you or are not interested.

It seems where I hunt what has been working for me is fawn distress or woodpecker. Last coyote I had come out started barking to the fawn distress and after 15min of him barking I think he got so worked up he finally came out of woods to treeline. He didnt like what he saw I guess so no shot...

Do you use a decoy at all? I use a fawn decoy, or coyote decoy depending on which area of the moutain I am hunting. I found that if I have a decoy set up I can get away with a little more movement on my part and not get busted. How do you use sent control? I personally take plants from the area I hunt, and store them in a box I made with my hunting clothes and tree stand. From hunting coyotes in nevada, califronia, and here in washignton, I have noticed that the yotes up here arent as bold. Maybe becuase they are not on top of the food chain? Well thats my 2 cents on the subject. :)

:)I think this question might need a couple answers. In a place like the capitol forest and lots of other places I have noticed something.
In CF I might call for 10 minutes or 30, but I will likely sit for 10-30 minutes before I call at all. Even when you sneak in you disturb things, I do not find that nature has a very long memory in this case. If I sneak in, sit for a while to let things chill out, then call, my percentage goes up, also I sometimes get watching something, taking a nap or some other diversion and find that sometimes that extra time spent raises my %.
How long one calls may not relate to how long one stays on a stand is what I am trying to get at.

i often sit on stand for an hour or so but as just as carl said half that time i spend is sitting quietly waiting for things to settle down

honestly most of the coyotes that i killed this year have been inbetween the 20-40 minute area. at the beginning of winter i usually never stay on a stand longer than 30 minutes, as time progresses in the winter i will stay longer up to 45 minutes. they get hit pretty hard around this area and get real weary and take a while to come in.
