any wildcatters ? lets here about them.
-
I have a .257 A.I. I absolutely love it. I have seriously been considering a .338 wsm.
.338/06 or a 6.5/.284 are others I would love to have in my arsenal
-
338 Lapua Ackley Improved and 6-284 These are pretty easy chamberings so I'm not even sure I would call them Wildcats.
-
6x45mm, 22-204Ruger(222 Rem Mag Improved 30 degree), 6mm- 204(6x47mm Rem Improved 30 degree), 25-204(257 Kimber clone 30 degree shoulder), 35 Whelen not a cat anymore. () are the parent wildcat cartridges, using the 204 Ruger case simplifies case forming to a straight neck up.

I had a 338-06, but that's not much of a wildcat. I do still have a 7mm TCU. That's a fun caliber in the Contender. I've even considered having a Savage barrel made up in 7mm TCU, but that's just one more on a long list of "to do" calibers. The 338-375 Ruger is on that list as well.

Not a wildcat anymore, but I do turn 30-06 brass into 25-06 brass for my custom Mauser.

whoo....lesseeherenow...I have loaded 35 Whelen Ackley Improved, 30-338 Winchester Mag, 357 Herrett, 30 Herrett, 30 American, 257-221 Fireball, 25 Hornet, 30-30 Ackley Improved and 35/30-30 Ackley Improved. Just what i can think of off the top, there is more if I go digging through the die box I'm sure.

30-338 It's really similar to a .308Norma. But you won't find this stuff on the store shelf anywhere. There are a few places online that you can get it.
That's a 338 Win Mag necked down to .308". Shot 338wm's. Resize to .308 cal with Sierra dies. Load with cheap .308 bullets and shoot light loads with IMR4064 to fireform cases. Then load with the good stuff.
-Speer 180 SPBT 3,100fps, pushed by 67.5gns of IMR4350= MOA.
-Sierra 180 SPBT 3,000fps, pushed by 64gns of IMR4350= SubMOA.
-Hornady 190 SPBT 3,150fps pushed by 67gns of IMR4350= MOA.
I know.. You look at that and ask,... Why is the 190 going faster than than the 180's? Well.. I can get the 180's moving, but I've settled on the loads that give the accuracy that I want. The Sierra's when slowed down to just about 30-06 speeds are friggin tack drivers from this thing.
The thing I found when researching this round is that I get the same and slightly exceding velocities with ~10% less powder charge than a 300WinMag needs. I just happened to stumble across a used Ruger 77 in the Little Nickle years ago, even pretty much local to me. The rifle started life as a 300WinMag and the barrel was rechambered/set back by Ron Kesselring in the 80's. I've since glass bedded the action/free floated the barrel. The rifle has the Ruger varminter adjustable trigger set to 2.5 pounds. This is my primary hunting rifle.

I've got a few in the safe. My 1000 yrd bench rifle and my first wildcat a 6.5/300WBY. The others are 25/284, and a 358STA.
I played with a couple of AI's but I dont have any more of them. I do have a 22-250AI barrel thats going to replace the shot out barrel on my rem 700 in 22-250.
I had a 30-338 for a couple of years, it didnt realy do anything for me and when a freind made a offer on it I sold it.
I had a 338-378 before WBY started makeing them. That was a fun rifle/cartridge but like alot of rifles I lost intrest in it so it was sold.
The one that I've been thinking about lately is a 25wsm but I'm not going to build any rifles this year.

Just got a 224 eden don't know much about it but it is a 22cal w/06 case I also have a 257 Ack it is an outstanding caliber. Any one have any info on the 224?

Somehow we don't believe you.. :chuckle:

357 Herrert.
-
I used to have a S&W .22 Jet, it was a .22 from a necked down .357
Sold it because I needed the money and couldn't afford to shoot it.

Not a practicing one but I enjoy the science and adventure aspects of the undertaking. I've done it vicariously through a friend who's built several guns.
I had a 338-06, but that's not much of a wildcat.
I always thought a wildcat was any concoction that a guy came up with where there wasn't factory ammo made for it. Why don't you consider that a wildcat.... is someone making ammo for them now?
This is actually a cal I've been thinking of making. Tons of 06 actions and brass out there and the ballistics on it are amazing considering the case capacity. That case tends to perform best with bigger bullets it seems.
-
a-square legitimized it a while back, calling it the 338/06 a-square, i've seen ammo sold in cabelas catalogs.
-
I built a 22-6mm for long range 'yotes. 75 grain A-Max at 3580 fps.
-
I shoot a Sako TRGS chambered in 7.82 Lazzeroni Warbird. It's a killin machine!!

How does it shoot? - those were notorious for horrible accuracy.

I've always wanted a 338-06 barrel so I could make a switch barrel rifle, I think they are cool 8)

Nice rig, HC! My buddy hunts with exact same rifle. Same action, same mcswirly, not sure what barrel you are runnin? - He is runnin a Kreiger on that one. Deadly deer rifle.

Shortly after I built my 338-06, Weatherby started producing their Ultra-lite in that caliber and offering factory ammunition. It's a heck of a caliber, but a pretty tame wildcat. I'd still have that rifle if it were built on a different action. I just never grew to like the FN Mauser that it was built on.

I have a 338-06. Had it built 6 or 7 years ago on a m70 featherweight. Have killed one bull and 2 or 3 deer with it. I shoot 210gr nosler partions in it, and they shoot great. Love the gun.

J.J. Hunter. It shoots great!! Very, very accurate. I shot last years whitetail at a laserd 452 yds. I've taken moose, bison and black bear with it also. I've been very happy with it.
