I started with a TC Hawken, moved to a TC Thunderhawk, then to a Knight Predator and Wolverine. I shot a White for a while, good gun but I don't like the idea of propritary bullets. I'm sticking with the Predator (for now :chuckle:). All in .50 cal.
What guns do you shoot and why?
-
I have a TC Hawken in 54 cal and a CVA Hawken in 50 cal that I use because it is what I have, they were given to me when my FIL died and I have tried to carry on the tradition but I think it is time for a change.
-
I'm shooting a T/C Hawken in 50cal, and a Lyman deerstalker in 54.
-
I've been hunting with a White for the last 13 yrs. I just bought a T/C black diamond last fall because I broke rear sight on my White. Both are 50 cal.
-
I started out with a CVA hunter musketmag, then tried a Traditions, and then a couple of years ago bought a Knight Bighorn 50 cal. I have been looking at the 52 cal but not alot of info out there on it.
-
I stated with a 50 cal Traditions back in 95 and now have been shoot a T/C Black Mountain Magnum in 50cal for the last 6 years. They do not make this model any more but it is a great little shooter. I have taken Deer, Elk, Russian Hog, and Buffalo with it with the Power Belt 348.
-
Whites 50 cal, 460gr bullet nothing else shoots like a WHITE. 95 grs of 777 seven.
-
Knight MK85 54cal
-
Just got a Knight BigHorn Camo/Stainless, have yet to take it to the range. I hope to use it on my first hunt this fall.
-
Good choice Dbake, I have one and love it. When the waether gets better over here Im going to develope some new loads for it with the Dead Center sabot loads. Ill let you know how they shoot.

Hope that works .
Any way its a .54 Early American that I built . Shoots .535 patched round ball 90 gr.2f Blackpowder. Yup she has drawn blood.
-
I have 3 Remington 700's. All .50 cal. 1 youth model, a standard and a magnum. I shoot the same loads and bullets out of all of them and they shoot well. I actually prefer hunting with the youth model, it handles well in the brush being short and stubby.
-
T/C .50 cal I believe it is an older Omega
-
I have a T/C black diamond right now in 50 cal but I might upgrade to a knight MK 85.
-
T/C BlackDiamond, .50 cal. I like it but wish the stock was a little softer. Got started at Fire Mnt. Boy Scout camp as a kid with .50 & .54 Hawkin.
-
.54 cal Thompsons Grey Hawk Stainless. Peep sights.
-
Traditions evolution - stainless with a camo stock. 50 cal. Gun shoots best with sabots, but I've used powerbelts with okay groups. 100 grains of pyrodex. Fun gun to shoot!

back in arkansas, i have an old sears roebuck 45 cal long rifle. it was a fine deer rifle.
sadly i no longer have a smokepole, would like to get a plain jane per. cap rifle tho.
-
Rem model 700 54 cal. Have killed 6 bulls with this muzz using 310 grain knight bullets and 100 grains of powder. I have never had any problems with it, but I detail it after using it. Strip it down to individual parts.
-
I have a TC Renegade in .54 cal that I have had over 20 years.
Last year I broke down and got an inline because I thought the price was right. It is an Austin & Halleck 50 cal.
-
Finally a little Austin & Halleck love. I also shoot a 50 Cal inline,Now if I could only figure out where to get me some front fiber optic replacements they seem to be an odd size. :dunno:
-
TC Renegade 54 caliber.....bought it back in the 70's, when they first came out. Always dependable....great little gun.....highlight was taking a book muley in 1977 with it.
-
dad has a CVA and grandpa has a Remington
-
T/C Black Diamond xr T/C Hawkin 8)
-
TC .54 cal firehawk

I started out with a Cabelas 54 cal Hawken ,then had a 54 cal CVA,saw a Austin & Halleck had to have one,my family bought it for me about 10-11 yrs ago for xmas bought another when they went out of Business its a great shooter ,gave my 54 cal Hawken to my son-in-law.The knight bighorn wnt on sale for 199.99 on father's day
SOOOO I bought it shot it, retired my Austin & Halleck,I'll be hunting with my Knight
this yr. I did take my Austin out yesterday with a buddy and shot the Hornady SST
300 gr.
I never even changed my sights I was shooting a 348 gr. power belt for yrs and wanted to see were the 300 gr. Hornady would shoot fired two shots dead center at 25 yds abd about two in. high put her away.
I've been muzzleloader hunting for a little over twenty yrs,use to archery hunt but hurt my shoulder and couldn't draw my bow anymore didn't want to go back to rifle
hunting so went to muzzleloader and i'll never change now love it look forward to it every year. don't have the crazys like in rifle hunting nor the crowd BUT its getting more crowded every yr at least seems that way.
Sorry about the long letter got carried away. ONLY 9 MORE DAYS !!!!!

I have a T/C Black Diamond in .50. Hunting with black powder exclusively the last few years, been successful on deer about every other year. I find the late season best for the type of hunting I do. I missed a doe on the last day of the season last year so I recently switched to a peep sight and so far I am very happy with the range results. Can not wait to put that peep on a deer in about 8 days.
Hoping to locate some elk this year, have not been very successful with them ever, but I haven't hunted them hard so thats on me.
Best of luck to all this season....
-
Have a T/C Hawken that I've had for 15 years...just bought a Knight Bighorn in time for last fall...and another when i heard they were going under...along with a TK-2000 shottie as well.
The Hawken is blooded...the Bighorns are not. TK-2000 has grouse to its credit.
-
I have a .54 cal Lyman trade rifle and a CVA hawken that I built from a kit. Both are excellent shooting guns, I do use the Lyman to most.
-
50 cal, CVA Optima
-
T/C Black Diamond XR. .50 cal with 350 grain Maxi Hunters.
-
I'm shooting a Knight Bighorn .50 cal in SS with thumbhole stock that I picked up this year. As to the why asked in the OP, I basically did a lot of research with alot of help from people on this site. I like to buy American when I can and made a decision to get the Bighorn, unfortunately the company is not making them anymore.
-
I shoot WHITE got .410, .451, .504, .540 and 12gauges too. Nothing shoots like a White IMO :)
-
Have a Knight Wolverine and a Knight Bighorn 50 cal. both in S.S. with thumbhole stocks. And I shoot a sabot with Hornady XTP 300 grain magnum"s bullets.I can hold a fairly good group with that combination out to 150 yards. And i also went with the Knight because they are American and I like that there capable of shooting three different ignition systems. ;D
-
First season with a Lyman .54 GPR, left handed :chuckle:
-

100 Yards 6" high
200 Yards bull
250 6'' low

I borrowed a Remington early model in line awsome gun if you can find one. Then I decided to quit being a much and bought a TC black Diamond used it for four days last year (no elk) when I got home I noticed rust spots on the barrel. I thought about it and brought that gun back because of the rust after one trip they gave me my money back. plus it had to be the guns fault not mine for the lack of dead elk. My partner shoots a $60 pawn shop old Traditions and I always liked how tough it was so I bought a Traditions Pursuit NW addition ive been shooting it and I love it. One week cow tag cant wait.
-
White Model 98 in .504.
-
Thompson Center pensylvania hunter side lock. 50 cal.
-
Austin Halleck 50 cal. 375 grain sabot lead spitzer boat tail made by Buffalo Bullet Co. (not anymore sadly) in front of 120 gr. of 777.
Too much personal history with this rifle to leave it home.
If I ever screw up the courage to go round ball hunting for elk I'll take this one:
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdjr.smugmug.com%2Fphotos%2F9047258_rX4EG-M.jpg&hash=377a6274d8ec65b5b2286b7df5628b5a57b25959)
Shot my first muzzle loader elk with an old under-hammer Hopkins & Allen buggy carbine in .45 cal. Worked just fine but no longer legal except for deer.
I leave tomorrow for elk.

-
DJR,
.45 cal is legal for ELK in Washington. Is the rifle not legal due to breech?
-
whitelightning is right, this is from the regs.
A muzzleloading shotgun, rifle, or handgun
used for all other big game must be .45
caliber or larger.
-
Lyman Great Plains (Hunter Barrel) .50 Cal - It just looks at home out there...
Love that smokepole!!!
Shawn
-

Well, I'll be dipped, it is legal. Don't know where I was getting my information from, just remembered it wrong from somewhere. Possibly Montana or Idaho. Any case it looks like it would be legal (open and exposed etc.) Too late to sort it out for this trip as I'm leaving today but good to know for future reference. It's a handy little thing, the "model 94" of muzzle loaders.
Wish me luck, I'm gone hunting.

T/C Grey Hawk, Stainless barrel, symthetic stock

Home-made lefty .54 flinter or home-made .54 caplock replica of a real Hawken. Black powder. Round ball. Clean with plain room-temp water. Simple is good.
-
started with a Cabelas 54 cal. Hawkins replica, went to a 54 cal CVa,then a 50 cal. Austin Halleck (great gun) I still have it but now i use a Knight bighorn.
Put the Austin&Halleck to rest afraid if something breaks can't get replacemet parts.Bighorn is a GRRRREAT muzzleloader very accurate. 95 gr. 777 and 300 gr. Hornady SST.

CVA buckhorn. havent shot it but its nice, hope to use it someday though. :dunno:
-
I like my TC black Diamond.
Shoots great and I can actually pose a significant threat to the critters.
Hey how come they don't have any Muzzel stuffer emoticons on here :dunno:
-
Winchestor X-150 50 cal (.5015), synthetic camo stock, fluted stainless steel barrel, customised free floated barrel, truglo ghost ring rear sight with customised truglo seahawk green front globe sight. Getting another muzzleloader so my 11 year old son can hunt with me next season...can't wait!!!
-
Started with a TC Hawken 54, now use an underhammer 50, awesome lock time, no misfires, light, and get some looks (what the heck is that?).
-
lokidog, what the heck IS that? :chuckle:
Seriously. Is there a website with more info on that "thing."
-
Wow that is odd loki ive never seen one of those
-
Google produced this: http://underhammers.blogspot.com/
Pretty cool rifle, Lokidog.
-
Try this www.bluegrouseblackpowder.webexone.com/login.asp?loc=&link=
The guy is south of Gig Harbor. I think the base kit is still about $255. Awesome guns! Mine hase a cantilevered scope mount on the barrel with a peep mounted to that. My wife's has the peep on the action but there are problems with lining it back up after cleaning.
Let me know if any questions. Plus legal in non-inline states. Design is from early 1800's.
-
700 ADL Rem 7mm mag, Camo synthetic stock and with a burris ballistic plex scope, I shoot 175gr Fusions. Love it, waited along time for it and will be my main rifle as long as live. Got 2 other 700's in 243 and 270. Will always own Rems.
-
Hey Snowman, I think this is about ML's... :chuckle: :chuckle:

0.36 cal full stock, hand made, Flint, Russ Ham lock and trigger, 42 inch Numerich barrel gain twist starts at 1-72 goes to 1-36, took year to build, will take heads off grouse at 50 yards.

I've been hunting elk with my T/C Black Diamond XR for the last 8 years. I didn't change anything on the gun until this year. When I put a William's peep and a Limb Saver recoil pad on it. I wished I would of made these mod's earlier. Also this last spring I picked up a Knight Bighorn for the wife.
