About 24 hours to apply folks.  Anyone going in?

Not for me.  Some of the hunts are reasonable to draw so I dont see a reason in applying until I really want to go also no points for the draw.  I think I wait until I get the Africa bug them Ill put in for them as its a hell of a lot cheaper than actually going to Africa.

Are you in?

Do you think the three days or two days is a stretch, or were there lots of opputunity?

Kinda depends how "Hardcore" a guy is I guess.grin... My season was only 2 days, some are 3. From what I saw, it resembled opening day of Elk season in Western Washington, people flying around the roads, shooting way farther than they should, guys chasing herds of Oryx across ankle deep grass, flatter than a pancake, groups of "hunters" surrounding a herd of Oryx going in them the same time.We had enough of this after a couple hours, got as far away from people as we could and ate lunch. My pard spotted this bull 2-3 miles away up in the rimrock, planned our stalk, went up and killed him. He had been living up there all by himself for quite sometime. Another member here called me about a month ago, drew the same tag. Been waiting for pics.

New Mexico, $1618 or so if you draw, $8 if you don't.

You don't want to think about that part of it.  Scary thing is you can actually get drawn in NM.

Great hunt.  I got my once in a life time in 03 and then helped a buddy take his last year.  I would go every year if I could.

WOW - looks like I had the feed bag on a little too much that year!  :chuckle:

Ok...here is the question.  I have a hunting partner who can't hike the hills.  Is the ground pretty flat for this hunt.  Would like to suprise him by putting him in for it, and hopefully he would get drawn.

There is a little bit of everything.  Flat ground, mountains, dunes, washouts, sand hills/berms, etc.  One hunt I had to stalk/run in a washout for about 600 yards is all and the last time I went I just about killed the guy I was helping.  We were walking through a dune area in soft sand for a day and a half trying to kill the grand daddy and he was just plain wore out.

He went down there with the impression that he was going to shoot from the road.  On the second day of a two day hunt he shot a respectable bull with a broken horn that the taxidermist was able to fix, but we probably would have hunted differently if he would have been in better shape.

I guess that just because it looks flat, you shouldn't anticipate that it is going to be easy walking.  If you friend only has a problem with the vertical stuff and is in relatively decent shape, you shouldn't have too much trouble.  Get the best glass you can afford!!!

Great news....for me any way!

I told a buddy about my hunt Oryx and......after four years of putting in he got drawn for Rhodes Canyon.

He's from DC and we're going to meet another buddy of mine from Albuquerque and the three of us is going Oryx hunting.

First hunt of the year - great for selection and the Oryx should be a little more relaxed, but it is gonna be HOT - Aug 23rd.

This will be the third Oryx hunt that I've been on....I'd do it every year if I could.  Even if I'm not the shooter.

I'll be sure to remember that if I ever get drawn.

Bone - If I don't have any other hunt/fish conflicts, I'm in......

Got it pretty well figured out....getting there, hunting em', cooling, flash freezing, cape/horns/meat packing for the flight home, etc

Something this fun shouldn't be this easy....logistically speaking.

Now the Oryx just have to commit!
