I am just wondering, how many points did you have when you got drawn? Or how many did you have when you applied this year?
Austrian,

Check out this site, it provides you with the average amount of points a person has when drawn

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed.

I only have one point from last year's draw :( Hopin' for the lottery...

Same here Pathfinder :(
-
I had 5 points going in to this years draw...
-
When I drew Capitol Forest I had 1 point. It was the first year they had Spring Bear permits for units on the westside and first time I had ever applied for a special bear hunt.
-
I had one from last year so it will be 2 this year. Not counting on anything.
-
I've got three going in this year along with my dad and brother. I'm hoping one of us will get drawn.
-
I got 2, pretty sure Im drawing a tag for some reason. Wife has 2, hope she draws.
-
Okay, I got one point from last year, so I'm going in with one point or two points this year :dunno:
-
2, you get your point for this year when you applied ;)
-
:dunno: maybe I get lucky, thanks bucklucky :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Going in with 3 points this year.
-
1 point from last year and 1 from this year. hope I can get lucky
-
Most of the guys i hunt with are going in with 3 and two of us are going in with 5. All as single hunters. Hopefully we will pull a permit or two out of the area we want.
-
It's odd how many there are with 5 points...only 1 unit took 4+ points and 7 took more than 3 on average.
-
I'm either going in with 5 or 6. Whatever MAX is.
-

Thats the draw system for you. We will see if i can pull it out this year.

As I've said many times, the average points means almost nothing. It's an interesting number to look at, but just not really useful. As an extreme example look at some hunts that only have 1 permit available, of which there are many. Say 2000 people apply for that hunt and on average they have 8 points each. But the person that ends up drawing it has only 1 point.... average points to draw that permit = 1. So how reliable is that number in knowing how many points it takes to draw that permit?
-
Goin' in with a whopping two points this year. :)
-
I have 6 but but want 0 in a couple of weeks.....
-
I have three this year. I hope it is enough.
-
Didn't get it last year (1 point) & I put in this year (2 points right?). Well I got a bear on this draw in 2008 so I won't be a whiner. Before you whine consider what you would feel like at age 70 (I am definately burn'in daylight). But the bears were cool & maybe it is a young buck's turn eh?
PS: If you don't like bear meat, take care of it & give it to me!!!!!!!!!!
-
3 points ---- one for me, and one for each of my sons..... Hopefully one of us will draw.....
-
I bought my 7th point this year. I don't have time to go so I'll just keep buying them.
-
Good luck elkstuffer, MAKE TIME! Oh the wisdon when you're 70! Make it happen Lieutenant!!!!
-
I'm in with 5 points this year, but like Elkstuffer, I'm in for just a point as I don't have time to go and don't want to burn my points and then not have time to hunt. With my wife working weekends, and me working during the week, that leaves me with NO time to hunt, unless I pay a babysitter or take the kids with me.
-
I drew the first time I put in in 2005 with 1 point.
Didn't draw the next year.
Drew the following year with two points.

Applied for point.
Applied this year with two points.
-
I should have a total of three. I only put in for N Skagit since it's in my backyard. I would have over the average points that it took to draw lat year but everyone knows that doesn't mean much.
-
I have 2!

:yike: :yike: I want to be as lucky as you, :'( Did you have as much luck on the other draws??
-
Some guys have all the luck.
Last year I drew that Eder Permit after I had all my vaction time planned so I had to adjust and just go for a couple days. Thats all I could fit in. Wished I would have had more time.
-
It's all dependent on what units a person applies for, and yes, a little luck thrown in doesn't hurt. But if you apply for the hunts that have the most permits and/or the least number of applicants, your "luck" will be better.

I have done fairly well over the years. At least 4 elk (3 bull & a cow that I can remember) permits and at least 3 or 4 antlerless deer permits.
But like Bobcat said, it depends on what you apply for and more importantly HOW you apply.

You lucky dog :chuckle: :chuckle: I understand it allways depends on the unit you apply, but it makes a difference on how you apply :dunno: Do you mean the selection of the unit :dunno:

Guess I need to amend that....Drew this year with two points.
As far as how?
A few of us have explained this to death but some still don't agree.
Basically look at the odds of drawing. (amount of permits vs. applicants) and then put them in order of hardest to draw to easiest to draw. It makes no sense to put your toughest draw as a 4th choice.
-

It makes sense if the hardest to draw tag is the one you want the least. If you want the easiest to draw tag more than any of the other four, it should be the first choice.
-
Not drawn, with one previous point :dunno: ....Two now.

It still doesn't make sense, because there's no chance of drawing it. It would be like putting a doe permit for a first choice and the Desert buck late rifle permit as a 4th choice. Why would someone do that?
-
Why cant I draw a tag anywhere :dunno: Mark
-
Last year I drew with 2. This year I drew with 1. :chuckle: :chuckle:

I agree Bobcat. The easiest draw should be in the last position. If the easiest is in the first position then there is (almost) no chance of drawing your other choices.
And remember I said "Basically". There are other variables and always exceptions to the rule.

OK, that I did knew! You drew again  I guess I am stuck because there is only one unit (49 North) that I want to hunt and that's the only choice I put in for. Well next year I go in with three points, maybe I get lucky. Good luck to you! I get mine in August :IBCOOL:

Girlfriend drew with 2 points putting in for one unit.
-
Drew Kapowsin with 1 point- first choice. Drew there in 08' and shot a old boar that squared 6-3 1/2 350+. Hunted in there for 23 days before harvesting on the 28th of May. Never did see another harvest report card in the box. Anybody know how many bears were killed in 08' Spring?
