Hello everyone, how is it going? I have lived in the Camano Island area for years and every year i hear about people taking good sized bucks off the Island. I have found public access land and have put some time in it over the last three years or so, but still no luck. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice about the area and/or whether baiting the area might help. I have talked to wdfw and baiting is legal, i am just curious as to the pros and cons. Like i said, i already have an area and am willing to share with anyone that might have some advice that could up my chances. Thank you for the help in advance and good luck to all.

Look at the bright side - you probably won't have any competition. :chuckle:
Sorry you weren't able to get any information. I just have to think no one has any or they would have responded.
-
It sounds like he has received pm's from people. At least that's my take on it. :twocents:

I hope so. I took it as being sarcasm that no one had replied.

Absolutely. Inflection, tone, intent...they are all hard to interpret from text.

Still amazes me how many people ask questions before introducing themselves...
I know there are deer on Island, I would hang out at the local bar/eating establishment and get to know some of the local (neighbors) and even post a sign at the local Nursery (where people spend money on roses) to gain information and access permission.
As a delivery driver, I met several locals that told me about nice bucks in their backyards on Camano......

Yes, I would try baiting. Use apples. Or, if you're able, plant a food plot, or multiple food plots if you have the room. And, if you're not already, get a tree stand, and try letting the deer come to you.

I really did mean thank you, it was not intended to be sarcastic. I have gotten some great advice in private messages and wanted to respond to all at once as well as the individual responses i sent out. I can understand how it was perceived as sarcasm, and i want to clear that up while i can. Sorry for any confusion and thank you all again for the great advice. :)

Is there a specific forum for introductions or should i just pick a page and give some backround on myself? I have noticed a lot of guys asking me to introduce myself and i just cant figure out where to post that info.

I guess I was the only one that thought he was actually being thankful

I live on Camano and bow hunt it. I have never taken a deer. Its thick brush and i dont know why but the deer seem to be really nocturnal. That being said i almost got to draw on the biggist blacktail i have ever seen about 10 years ago a mile from my house.
-
Camano also offers a second deer permit. There is about 50 offered and usually 38-40 put in for. My buddies had a nice row of deer hanging last year.
-
I was told " the week of the 12th" , good luck to everyone

Hey everyone i just moved to Camano and will be looking for someone to bow hunt black tail with. I am a long time hunter and eager to hit the brush, so let me know if you are looking for someone to meet up with and if we click go on a hunt or two.
-
I'm also interested in doing a hunt on Camano this weekend 11.18.17 for the late general any deer season with my daughter. Do you have any suggestions on spots? Any help is appreciated. I'm getting back into hunting since moving here from AZ 15 years ago.

Great first post bringing up a 6 year old post

Your very best bet is finding private land permission. Otherwise bait pile is a definite thing to try.
The island is incredibly densely populated now nothing like in the past.

And less than a day before his hunt date.

It doesn't hurt to ask questions.

All ribbing aside, its pretty tough going on the Island unless you have private land to hunt. The few places that are public are densely forested, very difficult to hunt, and not many animals. As Runamuk said, its getting to be a pretty busy place these days, not near the amount of open ground out there that there used to be. You're much better off finding state/DNR/private timber land somewhere else in 407, or even heading out to Whidbey to some of the public ground out there.

Unless you have them coming in your yard or another spot that's private I wouldn't waste your time. There is way bigger deer on the mainland. I killed a 2x3 on the rock last year that was 9 years old.
