I will be heading to Chewelah for my first spring turkey hunting in that area. My wifes aunt lives by Waits Lk so I have a place to camp. I have been there before a few times and know there might be a few turkeys around .
Any one want to trade a fishing trip on the west side / salmon, sturgeon place to stay as well , for a place to get a few turkeys? Or trade salmon in the package/ hallibut or smoked salmon etc.
Just lookin for a decent place before I head over and try to figure out public land. and offering what I can for a trade.
Pm me if not wanting to post.
Aaron.

I know its a terrible area ;) thats why I was lookin for a trade, I know there is a mass amt of private land .
That I am not used to on this side.

Around waitts lake is a great place and it is going to be a good year there is no snow so the birds are spread out good. They will be on the public ground and very accesible. If you are lookin for private land my folks live in chewelah and we could get something for you. PM me if your interested in some help

Benhuntin... I know Chewelah well, but would be interested in learning more about your parents place if they are willing to have ethical hunters over for help in trade for hunting permission.
Ghetto, Lots of public land around Chewelah.. Try Iron Mt... break out your map and you will find lots !

Just you? Or do you have others going with you?

You should go on the Stevens county Assessor site-they have an excellent site with Satalite imagery showing all property lines and the tax # - I can't remember for sure, but I think it's the numbers starting with 800 are not taxable -i.e. public ground!! With a little work on the site you can define the areas you can hunt and print out the actual satailite photos showing it's public. (Lot's of ground in the area is posted but is in fact public ground) It also allows you to make easier contact with the landowners to get permisson-you'll find that a lot of areas over there are owned by wetside people, many of whom have no problem letting you hunt if you contact them.

Pa Ben.
I will have one other person or maybe two if my wife decides to go. I am a beginner turkey hunter, so the buddy calling system like we do for elk on this side makes sense to me.

aaron give me a call did you get my pm?

Get some of the Truth video's to learn by. If you use mouth calls for elk then it will be ez to use them for turkeys. A good box call is good for a beginner.
