I just got this buck mounted probably 4-5 days ago so it is not finished . I got a bnch of pics that kind of go through the process I will post up. I will start from the bare form and end with the mounted piece. This is a monster blacktail, one of my favorites . I feal pretty lucky to be able to mount this buck for him, thanks Logger ;)
First pic is the bare form, then I show the cape all detailed out. After that I bucked the nose off so I could hog out the nasal detail as per referance and then bondoed the thing back on
I think the 4th pictures shows my fix on the skull cap, it had half of the back part of the skull blown off so I fixed it with bondo/fiberglass mixture.
-
I have loved this buck from day ONE! Awesome.
-
On to the next pics.
Next is getting the form prepped for hide paste. Then the claywork to the face so I can start slapping the hidpatse on , and then off to streaching the cape onto the form!
-
And the groomed head, remember this is not a finished head. It is in the process of drying at the moment.
-
Awesome! I definitely don't have the attention to detail to do that kind of work... great job charlie! How many hrs does it take you to pull the cape on, sew it up and work all the details into the face?
Michael

Love the step-by-step Charlie. Thanks for posting. I actually see a couple of things that I have been doing wrong on mine. Too much clay around the lips for instance. Do you "bondo" the ears? I have been using "ear forms", but I have a hard time making them behave.
-
Outstanding Charlie

You mean you didn't want to mount all those spikes and does you shot! I think I saw that buck on the side of the road dead, I was wondering who picked him up, I fiquered it would be some desperate hunter, probably would have him mounted, then brag to everybody how he shot him with a muzzleloader, at 10 yrds. :chuckle: Good Job Logger, or is that stroker! From all that bragging you probably had to get a bigger hard hat!!! :IBCOOL:
-
:chuckle:
-
Congratulations Logger.
One question though....for Charlie... How did you reach up that high to work on it? :chuckle:
-
Elkmisser missed a 4pt. buck during rifle season at 30 yds. 4 times while he was road hunting behind a locked gate in a disabled unit. :tree1: :sas: :sas:

I know you got that buck at NW Trek! Was it hard shooting from a moving tourist rig? I heard you made that old grandma gut and pack it while you slept on the bench dreaming of the Big Monster Elk that I killed. :chuckle: Don't Worry, I'll send you a autographed picture of Me and my BIG Bull Elk!!! You can put it next to your pillow at night so you can dream of being a successful hunter like me. For the right money, I can train you, might take a while though!!!

A good buddy of mine has some trail cams in the area so maybe he can get some pictures of him. Another buddy has the multi season permit so we will se if we can find him again.

That super sonic boom we had knocked my deer off the wall and flipped up side down, which landed on top of the t.v. and blew a big chunk of chines plastic right out it. >:( damn obama is always screwing up my life :'( :'(
