Title: Over did it again
Post by: gramps on March 27, 2010, 07:50:22 PM
The War Dept says I have overdone it again...she will never understand.
I have been working up loads for my new toy and I may have found a good one.  Rifle is a Savage 112 single shot with a PacNor 1" straight tube..   6.5x308 AI .  Have tried Sierra 107 gr MK and 120 spitzers, but the Berger 130 VLD seems to be the one.   Rifle currently weight 16 lbs.

Thanks.
100 yrds .. 0-3 mph blowing downrange.  This load chrono's at 3000 '/sec and as soon as I load up a few more rounds, I will be stretching the distance to  700+ yrds.  I broke the barrel in with load developement and am happy with this load now. I am fortunate to have access to a prarrie dog town that is a mile from one end to the other...location...somewhere over the rainbow..lol

Cool.  Is this caliber = 260 Rem AI?

Nice rifle. How much gain do you get over a standard 260rem?

Thanks
High Country & fremont....
Twist is 1:8.5 for the heavier bullets.
I have been working on this project for several yrs..actually bought the barrel 3 yrs ago..don't remember the turn around, but call and ask for Penny..she is VERY knowledgeable about barrels and will be able to help.  I wasn't concerned about the time 'cause it takes me quite a while to fund these little projects now...may have to go back to work.
It is the same as a .260 AI...I am just using the 308 as the parent.
I need to build a different rest..this was my 2nd trip out with this and what is pictured is not satisfactory.  Actually did the barrel break-in in my shop...until the neighbor complained.

Jamieb...don't really know.  I just wanted something different and was talking to a guy in Nev. that had built one and went ahead with it.  It is expensive with custom dies and all...but fun.
Just looked it up...about + 250 '/sec with 130 gr.
