Title: Recoil pads....
Post by: ol_grayfeather on March 28, 2010, 07:25:33 PM
My kids recently passed their hunters safety course and want to go turkey hunting this spring.  I bought a ATI collapsible stock (model MRW4100) for my Mossberg 500 to shorten the LOP for them.  We went shooting today and the stock ATI recoil pad leaves a lot to be desired.  I've heard many good things about Limbsaver recoil pads but haven't seen one that fits the ATI stock.  Any one have the model number of a Limbasaver pad that fits or any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hey There Yelp,

Any advantage of the Hi-Viz X-Coil Pad vs. the Sims Limbsaver Pad IYHO?  I just put a Limbsaver on my Mossberg 935 and will be testing it out this week.  Anything to help reduce the punch of those 3.5 inch hevi-shot loads while patterning the gun annually!   :hunter:

The 30-06 I just bought has the Limbsaver. Haven't shot it yet but the first owner really liked it. :twocents:

I have a gunsmith install limbsavers on all my guns with noticable recoil and it seems to cut it down 30%-50%. There may be other brands that are good too, but I am very happy with my limbsavers. :twocents:

 :yeah:

I use them and really notice a big difference. My Dad has shoulder problems and shoots a .300Win Mag( coincidence?) It hurt him so much it would bring him to a knee. Put on  limbsaver and he can use it all the time. I put one on a T/C encore with a turkey 12ga barrel that kicked like a rented mule until I limbsavered it.

I was having trouble with recoil on my 11 year old daughters 20 gauge put on a limsaver and I think shes good to go now I even bought her a limb saver shoulder recoil pad that she wears, shes all of 80 pounds. They work great I have one on my titka t3 300 win. mag and it works. I know they make slip on and trim to fit models.

I've not seen a Limbsaver pad that will go on a ATI stock but if you have a grinder and some time you can buy a Grind-to-Fit one from Sims.
I think they come small, medium and large.

I bought the medium sized slip on version limbsaver.  Very nice fit, I just made a small hole for the sling stud.  Tames it down to where my son (130 lbs) shoots 3" shells without complaining or flinching.  Equipment is all set up, now we'll see if I post any turkey pics over the weekend - youth only hunt 3rd-4th

Thank you everyone for your input.

I dont know if I got a bad one but one day I went to pull the 06 out of the gunsafe and the limbsaver recoil pad was kinda melted to the carpet in the safe. It wasnt near any heat the only thing I can think of is that maybe some guncleaning chemical got on it. I had to throw it away :bash: I have to say that it worked really good on taming recoil.

I have put the Limbsaver on my rifles except the ones that have a Decelerator.  The Limbsaver does a bit better job.  Look up on their website the model for your firearm and order one up.  It's just two screws and you will be done in 5 to 10 minutes.

Also Sims Laboratories (Limbsaver) is a Shelton, WA business, if I remember correctly.  I like to buy locally when I can!

Whoa! Wait a minute here. Recoil pads? Apparently you need to go see the doc! With any andrenylen (sp), you would not feel any recoil. I have shot turkeys, moose, sheep, elk, deer and never ever felt recoil.
Recoil pads are great for target shooting. I shot a deer with the butt of the rifle up against my chest. Big bruise, but I did not feel a thing.
