hey new to the area want to hunt eastern washington mule deer! Anyone wanna go with or need a hunting partner? I am 29 yrs old and in the military. Or if ya got good advice on public land?
-
Hey Dave, welcome aboard. My suggestion would be to stick around and post some messages, take notes on the ones you read and let people get to know you. Its possible but I doubt your going to get many bites coming right out and asking on your 3rd post, just my 2 cents.

Headeshot, I am sure you will be able to find someone with the similar hunting goals and commitments by the hunt. Welcome aboard.
Lets hear some good hunting stories? :IBCOOL:

Rifle,Muzzle Loader or Archery?

Welcome board.. Hunting partners are always a hard subject on the boards. Some guys tend to have issues with posting for partners however in some case many people do look for someone reliable that they can hunt with and share the experience. What type of weapon do you prefer to hunt with?

Well typically I hunt archery, been hunting bows seasons since 14 yrs old. I have hunted both the washington and oregon coast for a very long time and am really looking for a good group or place to go on the eastside. I have hunted rifle a few seasons but all my luck has been while archery hunting. The blacktail in my picture is a bow kill, and the myspace animals are all bow kills as well. I am going to be hunting elk in the mt. adams area this year with my 45-70 and 300 ultra mag. Bear will be on the long beach penninsula, and dieing to go to upper east washington for mulies. I hunted the MILDRED LAKES area so am very versed in high mountian hunting but just want an east trip. Being the area is so big were do you start? Was thinkin colville area?
-
You might want to wait and see how this winter affects the deer on the east side before you make plans to hunt over there. This may end up being the worst winter kill this state has had in over 10 years (just my opinion.) Now if you're thinking of Colville, that's more whitetail country than mule deer. Head a little more west from there, say in the Republic area, and you'll get into more mulies.
-
Awsome Ihad an old friend use to hunt up around the boarder, said he would see tons of deer, mostly forks but some legals were around. I was reading into the republic area looks good with a fare amount of public land. Not to bad huh?
-
Good area if any make it through the winter. Worst one I've seen in that local for awhile. They are only able to get around in the moose and elk tracks, even low. Crows are getting fat up there and coyotes are loving it.
-
i agree this winter is bad, I think it will surpass 96. I would wait and see on how the deer numbers are this summer
-
Headshot sent ya a PM did you get it? :dunno:

What branch of the military are you in? I have hunting around the colville, republic and oroville area. Have seen tons of WT and Mule in all areas. But like huntnphool said, stick around and take notes. This is only my second week on the this board. I have been looking for a site like this for a couple of years now.
Welcome.. Pete

ive been hunting the republic curlew area for years alot of public land and alot of hunters.deer get hunted hard in this area starting with bow season in sept. and on through muz. and modern firearm u need to get away from the roads and people to have achance at a decent buck.beautiful country but beware of where u step the locals by general season are usually wary of hunters and do not take kindly to tresspassers.last couple of years have seen alot of big 2pt. mulies so watch what u shoot.have seen where people have shoot 2pts. and left them. wish they would change to 2pt. or better to get rid of the big 2s doing the breeding.good luck on finding a partner and if u go to e.w. remember to bring good maps showing public lands kram

Hey Navy,
Retired E8 here we are hunting the conconully lakes during the rifle opener up high and way off the road concentrating on the draws that lead to water or remote stock waterers. Its mostly public land and not a lot of people, lots of game mostly muleys and occasionally we see a big boy. Would be glad to show you some of the country but would have to respect my hunting partners about actually joining us on a hunt.

still would dig finding land or a group to hunt with any takers?
-
Stick around, something will come out of it soon enough, most guys aren't getting too serious about next year yet.
-
When did you hunt Mildred and did you have any luck? Hunted back in high school when they first opened up.
-
im always looking for hunting partners
my main hunting buddie is more then likely going away for a few years so i will need a new archery elk partner, and modern firearm deer partner.

Well hunted mildred lakes area in 2005 it was awsome! I had a few chances on nice deer, a bear, and saw some cats up there! The goats were cool as well above the lakes. AQfter packn in and stayn 4days I figued I would save my tag for a later date. I had a blast would recommend the trip to anyone! Be prepared to walk straiaght up all the way to the lakes, with 65lbs on my back it reminded me of alaska! As for a hunting partner I am down with anyone who will let me go! I am a small arms instructor for the military, and drive search and rescue boats for a living. I will pretty much go anywere my feet will take me. Thanks for all the advice this site is great! "Always looking for muley partners!" I have never shot one!

ive been gready over the years and have pasted up some bice 3pts and 4pts looking for a huge mulies i have seen over the years. sence i knwo they are out there.
but i have yet to shoot one myself. and i think i should suck it up and just get on the board with one first. instead of hunting for the BIG boys.
i did however miss a big boy this year on opening day with my 44mag. and i regret not using my rifle for that shot.
-
he atleast you saw a mule deer, the last one (of course i dont ever go east) was 2005 FOR ME. I wanna huntem now! There a heck a lot bigger than the black tail I have been gettn west of I-5.

How did you get past the hikers? The last time I went to Mildred Lakes I thought I was attending outdoor class at Evergreen State College.
-
that is very true, but I did not seem to have a problem above the lakes... And below the falls.
-
well we should hook up and hunt them this year. ive hunted most of the state so i know my way around the hills a bit.
i can hunt either archery or modern firearm.
-
that would be great im wanting to go east. what are your thoughts?

my thoughts...lol
my thoughts are this. i wake up in the morning before a trip. and where ever my truck takes me is where i hunt. ill hunt the methow area on day, then hunt around ellensburg the next.
i never really stick with my original plans when i head out the door. i will get that gut feeling to switch spots and thats just what i do.
ive seen some really nice deer in certain areas that i know dont get hunted alot. so i focus on those areas. BUT i only hunt them a day at a time to keep the hunted pressure down. the surrounding area is hunted heavy and the deer migrate through the valley to my secret spot. so i see alot of deer there...but over the last 3 years the elk population on this little valley/hill top has sky rocketed so the deer have been staying in the THICK brush. so getting a good look at them let alone a shot is really hard.
90% of the time i hunt a low percentage area, but the quality of the mulies i see are very good. and in most years i come up empty handed. i see most of the during archery elk season, then i unt modern firearm for deer. and dont see them...
but like i said, if you want to get togather and hunt them with me. i can hunt either method...archery or modern firearm

I do the same type of thing, when in hunter ed classes and they talk about making plans and letting someone know where you'll be, I chuckle to myself 'cause I never stick to a plan.

well my parents know my hunting areas...i hunt 3 basic areas. so they are never worried. and if i decided to try somewhere other then those 3 areas. i always call someone and let them know the area, when i get there and when im leaving.
im a natural compass though. i have had my friend take me 20ish miles back into an area i didnt know. and i made it back to the gate no problem.
