Title: Lincoln A
Post by: mattaylor81 on March 30, 2010, 08:49:49 AM
This is my first time being drawn for Spring Bear.  I drew Lincoln A.  From what I gathered I can only hunt on timber company land in GMU 501.  My question is, does Fish and Game send an info packet to your house with maps or info regarding what land you can legally hunt on, or is there some other approach I need to take to figure this out?  Thanks in advance for your help guys.

You should get information in the mail from the WDFW regarding what part of the unit is open. I have no idea what part of the unit will be open. Some have said probably only the Weyerhaeuser land will be open. I don't know.... I don't see why the DNR land wouldn't be open as well. Previously there was a spring bear permit in Capitol Forest, which is almost all DNR land, and that is all that was open for the spring bear hunt in that unit. I don't see why this would be any different. DNR is interested in limiting bear damage and that is what the spring bear hunt in Capitol Forest was intended to do. The Lincoln GMU has a couple of large blocks of DNR ground, and the difference between private timberland and state DNR land is that the private companies can acquire permits that allow bears to be hunted and killed by hound hunters, while the state cannot. So if only one or the other was going to be a part of the spring bear hunt, I think it would make more sense that it be the DNR ground. But we will find out soon enough I am sure.
