I watched this buck a few times this winter. Never found his sheds. Still looking. :bash:
Anyway, what the heck is up with his hide? I have never seen anything like it before. Sorry I dont have any clearer pictures.
-
No but he be a dandy buck this upcoming year.
-
No but thats weird! :dunno: Awsome buck too!
-
Almost looks like it runs in the blood veins.
Sure be interesting to know what caused it or if its just one of those freaks of nature.
-
I can't recall seeing it before but maybe it's just the thicker winter coat starting to thin out a bit as the weather warms up? It's getting about that time of year (Already is in a lot of areas) when they start shedding that thicker coat.
Just a guess...
Hell of a buck though!!!!
-
Im thinking its change in the coats also..Im seeing more hair now where they get gouged by limbs on the trails, good sized tufts of hair
-
perhaps he's a meth addict.
-
probably from all the damn ticks :P
-
never anything like that :dunno:
I think ticks is the best guess mentioned so far, might be rubbing in the brush.
-

-
very much an OLD TIMER!!!

Looks like scabies, a.k.a. sarcoptic mange, which is caused by a mite. I've seen similar looking elk and bighorn sheep in Wyoming, animals on feedgrounds sometimes get it pretty bad. Very common in Yellowstone elk.

Jesus, first ticks, now mites, what's wrong with you people up there in Washington? :yike:
