Anybody shoot the Diamond Black Ice? I'm thinking about getting one here soon. Any input would be helpful.
-
Been looking at it a lot lately, but have not shot it. Both my local pro shops have Hoyt and Mathews and a couple of various Bowtechs, not the Black Ice.
Let us know how you like it. I am close to pulling the trigger on the Bear Instinct on Clearance to replace my Hoyt MT Sport, but would grab a Black Ice if a real good deal presented itself.............

Whats the brace height on the Black Ice? If I remember right it's just a tad under 7". Personally I like to stay around 7 1/2" for a hunting bow, just a little more forgiving of a form malfunction under the heat of battle so to speak. Having said that, seems on other sites, those who have a black ice love'em. Let us know how you like yours.

Black Diamond Specs:
IBO SPEED: 315 FPS
A2A LENGTH: 32"
BRACE HEIGHT: 7.5"
DRAW WEIGHTS: 40-70#
DRAW LENGTHS: 26-30"
BOW MASS: 3.6 LBS.
BOW FINISH: NEW BREAK-UP
ECCENTRICS: SINGLE CAM
LET-OFF: 65%-80%
MAX LIMB ANGLE: 92.2º (Beyond Parallel)
LIMB TIP TRAVEL: 1.97"
WARRANTY: LIFETIME
But look at this:
2007 Fred Bear Instinct will likely shoot a measured 257-298 fps once setup with a "loaded" string
- VS -
2007 Diamond Black Ice will likely shoot a measured 254-295 fps once setup with a "loaded" string
That seems odd that the two bows are 306 and 315 IBO respectively, yet the loaded string numbers are so close.......
These number come from Huntersfriend.com
Does this make sense?

the black ice is one amazing shooting bow.

i have 2 different arrow and broadhead setups for deer and elk...and they both have the same gr wieght...but different arrow diameters and broadhead sizes and wieght...and they shoot 10fps different from eachother.

I'm looking at the 2008 model. They have it in a couple different camo patterns. I contacted huntersfriend and there suppose to have the 2008 in a package soon but cheaper than 2007. Sportmans warehouse will carry them with the package from the Diamond catalog. Don't know if i will go with the package deal or not.

Did Hunter'sFreind tell you what the 08 models would go for? I heard on ArcheryTalk that it was an amazing bow. May cinsider it if I can get the wife to buy in to the idea. She said I could get the instinct, sinc eI found the bare bow for $260, but I think I like the Black Ice better according to all the reviews. I need to shoot them first, but if it is half of wha the reviews say, then count me in!
-
I thought the Black Ice had a bit shorter brace height than that, if as noted it has a 7 1/2" brace height it should be a fairly forgiving bow as well as fast.

Im not experienced at shooting per say but I have been looking at and shooting the bows. I shot the Black Ice at sportsmans in Lacey, Then shot the Diamond Nitro. The Nitro is a model made exclusively for SW and has a emblem on it also.
After studying both the BI and the Nitro, pulling them many times, and shooting both numerous times, I decided I would buy the Nitro over the BI. It felt smoother and and I thought it shot awesome. Comparable priceing on both.
However, like I said, the Nitro is only available at SW.

I bought one last year and I will take it over a mathews time and time again. I know that just ticked a lot of people off. But I will.
-
Probably will not tick off us on this board. This is not AT, where you get slammed for about anything............ That is one of the reasons this site is so good.

Guys who get their panties in a bunch trying to say what is best need to pull them out. There are many many options and everyone has certain likes and dislikes. I shoot a Mathews, looking at getting a PSE, Hoyt's are super sweet, Parker is a super value, etc. etc. The key is to actually try them together and then make up your mind. Oh yeah Diamond sucks and the only bow to shoot is a Mathews LX, and if you don't you are a terrible person and idiot hunter. Just had to say that. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Does that mean I am a weiner for shooting Hoyt? :dunno:
-
No....but because you shoot a Hoyt you did not kill a 180 Mule buck last year. Had you been shooting a Martin Pole Dancer special they would have come running. Jeez...you have seen the adds shoot a Martin and the hot chick comes to visit at deer camp.
-
Nope, I did not. I shot a dinky little whitetail spike on the last two hours of the last day of the late hunt. I am so pathetic :'(
Would not shoot my Hoyt if my wife would let me buy a new bow. Damn bills come first! That just does not seem right to me.........
Maybe that is why I have so many bills, come to think of it. :bash:

Didn't get the Black ICE. Just going to sticke with my Mathews LX, put a Hogg wrap it on and shoot some differnet arrows with 2 inch vanes.
