Has anybody heard about this? Funny they say "There is a slight anticipated effect to the number of hunter days." They're proposing the season go from 2 months long to only 1 month, and that's only "slight." ???
Purpose of the proposal and its anticipated effects, including any changes in existing rules:
The proposed WAC amends spring black bear hunting seasons. To expand the benefit of the spring seasons in the Blue Mountains, the Department is recommending adding a spring bear hunt in GMU 181 (Couse) with 4 permits. The anticipated effect is better distribution of harvested bears geographically and a slight increase in total harvest.
For Westside spring bear hunts, the Department is recommending reducing the season length in the Kapowsin Tree Farm unit from April 15-June 15 to April 15-May 15 based on discussions with the landowners. There is a slight anticipated effect to the number of hunter days.
Reasons supporting proposal :
The objectives of spring bear hunts in the Blue Mountains are to better distribute the harvest geographically and increase total harvest while minimizing female take. Through time, the spring season has proven successful for both objectives.
The Fish and Wildlife Commission began implementing spring black bear hunts in western Washington in
2006. The purpose of these hunts is to reduce tree damage by bears during the spring.

I think this is for 2011, not this year's season.

Why the talk of turning permits back in? Did you see that I said the shorter season is for 2011? (or maybe not, I'm not sure) Is it only a one month season THIS year?
-
Turning back permits? :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

i like hearing people turning back in there permits. one less hunter in there :IBCOOL:

Why wouldn't they just reduce the number of permits ?, oh ya $$$$ !
-
So what is the Kapowsin season this year? Does anybody know?
-
april 15th to june 15th
-
It is April 15- June 15. I already explained in another thread why I was thinking about turning my card back in.
-
I noticed today that they do have the shorter season listed for 2011:
Kapowsin That portion of GMUs 653 and/or 654 that is
designated as the hunt area by Hancock Forest 150 April 15 – ((June)) May 15
Management and International Forestry.
-
glad i drew this year,it really should be from may to june if they shorten it tho. ive got a feeling we'll get some snow this winter. hopfully i only need the first weekend. my buddy saw one up there this last weekend. its gettin close :IBCOOL:

From the proposal that was passed last weekend.
The

I wonder why they wand to reduce the seaon? Maybe boot hunters aren't killing enough so they want hounds back in?
-
maybe every one who draws bitches about there tag so they want hound hunters back in :stirthepot:

There could be another reason. At one point DNR was going to shorten the CF spring season to concentrate the hunters rather then have them spread out over two months. :dunno:
