Call and ask to get a "finders" permit. I think they give those out, don't they?
-
dont know thats why the title of post was woohoo dang

We can blame the little girl, she doesn't know any better officer  :chuckle: :chuckle: Just kidding :chuckle:
-
:chuckle: :chuckle: yea she just showed up with it
-
I believe you could do the following.....Hang it high in a tree so no one else takes it, then you can claim it near the end of the season with someones unfilled deer tag. As I recall, you can claim it with a tag during a legal hunting season.
-
might have to have the wife get a tag next year :chuckle:
-
Nice post, awesome find!

Just go back and get it! I know I'm a hard core criminal but I keep all the skulls I find. If they wanna write me a ticket for that while there are people out there poaching then so be it. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. I just hate to see something so cool rot in the ground.
-
:yeah:
Or, "officer, it was one I shot x years ago (a year you reported a buck kill)."
Or, you can send them all to Weathergirl since she has a scientific collection permit for her classroom. :chuckle:
-
Do you have an unused tag from last year? :dunno:
-
so if i have an unused tag from last year i can keep it, does it work that way
-
I would say not, as you reported not harvesting a deer last year (?)
I know the law states that it is not legal , no matter what method has been suggested, as you did not shoot it yourself, and tagging game shot by someone else is specifically detailed as prohibited....
However, I suspect that if you found it , brought it home, and kept your mouth shut about it, nobody would care...I mean, it is not like you are going to enter it for the book are you ?
-
no but it would be cool to take it home and show it off to people, like others have said it sucks to just let it rot away was looking for a legal way to keep it and be able to show it to people. know what i mean, i did some quick tape in the field and it was around 120-130 it would be cool to share
-
I have lots of skull plates/antlers from past hunting seasons and no tags to go with them. I'm not sure how this would be different.

Blacktail? :dunno:

When I 1st moved to WA. I found a 5x5 bull. I left it lay and called Olympia when I got home. I asked if I could keep it and she said "If you don't take it someone else will". I went back up the next day and there were snowmobile tracks going right to it and it was gone. >:( Ever since that day I have never left one in the woods and I've brought home close to two dozen. They are laying all over our landscaping and in my taxidermy studio. I have WDFW coming in and out of my shop 4-5 times a year and not one thing has ever been said.
madmack, go get that dang thing. WDFW has no reason to even come to your house.
-
very hard to do, i don't know how stiff the ticket is for taking them if a guy gets caught. might be a fine or loose your rig i don't know :dunno: does anyone know for sure. or if they can take it as far as poaching :dunno:
-
I left one lay this year I should have taken. Makes a guy kinda sick. Usually I can get permission but apparantly not for this one.
-
Many years ago (when the Sportsman show was in the Coleseum) I found an Elk rack/skull and entered it in the head and horns competition, nobody said anything. I then lent it to a frien with a sporting goods store, and it hung there for years without anybody saying anything. :dunno:
I still think it is a law, mostly for "fresh" ones people "find", not honest sportsmen finding one of natures treasures....
-
Seriously, until you posted this thread I had no idea finding (and taking) winter kill skulls was a big deal. In my circle of friends we usually find around 3/year and proudly bring them back to show off (even if it's a buck skull with dropped antlers.) I have never even heard of a guy getting in trouble for having one. I certainly am not going to leave a trophy skull lay, especially a bear skull, my favorite to find. :twocents:
-
if the antlers are still attached then it is "illegal". If I were you i would keep hauling them out and showing them off.
-
talked to a game warden today he said if its older no ones gonna give ya crap about it might go get it tommorow
-
just take an unfilled tag in the past and put it on it and then take it home???? just a thought
-
got him covered talked to a warden its mine
-
that and i don't have a unfilled tag for the last 10 years :IBCOOL:
-
i wouldn't worry about it. your tag is supposed to stay with the meat. when the meats gone there is no reason to keep the tag. just my :twocents:
-
got him covered talked to a warden its mine
:police:  "nuff said.
-
Glad ya got to keep it Madmack 8)
