like the subject line says i am new to hunting (hunters safety class is mar 10-14 for me). i will be trying my hand at taking a deer and will be hunting a few miles north of Spokane (Peone Prairie) i am curious if anyone is familiar with this area and if they actually camp out or do they just go home and return the next morning??? any info would be greatly appreciated. :)

well i am kind of bummed out that no one has any insight. i guess yall are like most of the people i run across fishing love to get tips/help about whats going on but when it is asked of them they are all i dont know..... >:( :bash:

You will find that there is a wealth of information and a bunch of great people on here. But with only a few posts and asking for information you will likely get the cold shoulder. You need to start out by introducing yourself. Make a few coments. Share some photos and stories. People are more willing to help when they know that they are helping out someone who really wants to share. Kinda like Kindergarden around here. The more you get to know eachother the more that gets shared. You know the new kid never gets to sit at the cool kid lunch table. You have to jump off the monkey bars to prove yourself. :chuckle:
I know nothing abou that area or I would help you out a bit. Stick around and you will get some help.

wow such a quick reply on bashing the site, give it some time. You are asking about a specific area, what are the odds of a member that is knowledgeable about the area and is on line between 5:56 and 9:56, and let alone has read your post. This is a great site to give and receive info, most guys wont just fork over information to a new member with three posts. Do some more posting and get to know the people, then they will help you out. I wish I knew about the area, I would give you some pointers. I dont know how far north of spokane you are, but i do hunt in the pendorile area. The main name of the game with whites is finding the kitchen and the bedroom and intercepting them in between.

sadly i cannot share any stories or pics of hunting adventures as i have yet to be on one. but if anybody out there need any informations or help fishing the lakes around Cheney, Wa i will bore you to death with what i know. im not hating on the site, but i have been on others that at least will get more comments that 2 or 3 with 60 or so people having viewed.

hit up the introduction board, and we do have a fishing section, and you two cents over there could probably wow some people. just start to chime in and bring up some good discussions that's what the site is all about.

This Site has people from 3 or 4 States viewing it. Expecting a useable answer from someone in your neighborhod in 4 hours is asking a lot.

I would like to know what sites get a better response, I bounce around them all that I can find.... :dunno:
In my constant quest for information I spend a lot of time using the search function. :twocents:
As far as your question, locals would be the ones going home and hunters that drive all the way out there from somewhere else would camp :twocents: :P
There is a lot of game in that region and the ones spending a lot on gas are not going to send you to their spots.
Your best bet is to start going out in the area you plan on hunting, and knocking on some doors to get permission, scouting etc....

yeah dont be intimated of knocking of doors, thats how my hunting party has found our hunting spot for 21 years now. the worst they can say is no. a few pointers on door knocking is dress nice, dont role up in full camo or in your work jeans, it gives you a better image, its hard to say no to a courteous person. bringing a kid or just being young also helps :chuckle:

excellent idea, it would never dawned on me to "dress nice" i would assume that you are not talking about showing up in you sunday church clothing but i would assume maybe some "nice" jeans and shirt would be appropriate. has anyone ever tried bribing??? what would someone need offer up to get access to some nice land???

Back when I hunted over there, we used to drive over with a cooler full of Salmon, Crab, Clams, and oysters.....
I don't know what you would have that they don't already have.
Maybe some help repairing fences, or other labor........

dont try to "bribe" the land owner, he might take it as being a sucker. you can offer to do some labor, or post trespassing signs on the property, but every year we hunt deer at our place we give the landowners a gift, something like a gift certificate to a restaurant.
but dont try to bribe them, it will give us all a bad name and they will never give permission to anyone else that asks.

things take time around here there are allot of people that join ask a couple of questions and then never show there faces again. so get some posts under you and then you might get a little more respose people like to see contribution before giving out info. it sounds like you do allot of fishing head to the fishing and share away is my :twocents:

We already had permission, we were not "bribing", we gave him a "gift" just to keep him happy.
Also make sure to tell them you will be responsible by not leaving garbage, and leaving the gates as you found them.. At all times respect their property.

well i wouldnt say bribe, :rolleyes: but the properties i have access to on the east side are a direct result of the kings running on the sammish river. we started by camping in our area. while knocking on doors if somone shows intrest in letting us hunt we tell them we brought to many fresh king slabs to camp and we dont want them to go bad. we offer up fresh king fillets and fresh dungeness, people in the methow cant refuse fresh sea food. :chuckle: apparently its hard to find over there. :twocents: . i dont have any info on your area but the best thing you can do is spend as much preseason time in there. get a mountian bike and spend the summer dinking around. you will learn the deers habits and it will help you out greatly.

peone area has good numbers of deer and occasional elk. but it is all private land and in my experience permission is not easily granted. so close to town everyone asks to hunt. are you going to rifle hunt or MZ or archery? with close houses people are more likely to give archery hunters permission. put some time in and meet everyone you can and have fun.
